Paramecia devil fruits were the first devil fruits introduced in the One Piece series, and throughout the story, there have been all kinds of devil fruits with all sorts of crazy powers. In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the strongest Paramecia-type devil fruits we have seen in the series so far!
While Haki as a power system was established later in the story, the Devil Fruits were part of the story from the very beginning. We saw Luffy showing off his rubber body and Buggy showing off his abilities to separate his body parts, but these powers have gotten stronger and stronger as new and powerful characters have been introduced in the One Piece series.
Now there are multiple types of devil fruits, but since the Paramecia type is the most common, it’s only natural that it would have some of the most powerful devil fruits too!
In this article, we will look at some of the strongest Paramecia-type devil fruits that bestow their users with a wide range of abilities, from as simple as creating barriers around them for protection to as ridiculous as creating earthquakes capable of bringing destruction to entire islands.
What Are Paramecia Devil Fruits?
The most common among all the devil fruit types in the entire series is the Paramecia-type devil fruit. Despite being the most common, they can offer some of the most versatile abilities to their users and also be really creative in terms of attacks and even Oda’s storytelling.
While other types of fruits, like Zoan-type devil fruits that transform you into an animal or a mythical creature and Logia-type devil fruits that allow you to control and become elements, Paramecia-type devil fruits enable their user to achieve superhuman abilities that vary from fruit to fruit.
Unlike the other fruit types, Paramecia’s abilities can be anything. It’s not like they are limited to animals/creatures and the elements of the world; the powers are like comic book superheroes, as it’s a free game for Oda when coming up with abilities.
Paramecia fruits grant their owner superhuman powers at a base, but there is a trend amongst the powers we have seen in the series. They are separated into three categories:
- Bodily Alteration: It changes the properties of its user’s body. For example, the Baku Baku no Mi turns its user’s body into various weapons.
- Environment Manipulation: This allows its user to achieve unnatural effects by changing the environment around them. For example, Admiral Fujitora’s Zushi Zushi no Mi will enable him to control gravity in his surroundings.
- Substance Generation: This is self-explanatory, allowing users to create substances from their bodies. For example, Magellan’s Doku Doku no Mi allows him to create a goopy poison-type substance to defeat his enemies and coat his body.
There is one final type of Paramecia, but it’s one that Oda hasn’t explored that much so far in the story. This is the Special Paramecia, which defies all logic when it comes to the Paramecia devil fruits. We have only seen this in Katakuri’s Mochi Mochi no Mi, which not only has Substance Generation but acts much more like a Logia fruit, allowing him to transform into the substance as well.
There’s also Artifical Paramecia, a recent addition to the story. Dr. Vegapunk artificially created copies of Paramecia fruits and gave their abilities to the Seraphim.
The Strongest Paramecia Devil Fruits in One Piece:
20. Bara Bara no Mi
Buggy’s Bara Bara no Mi, aka the Chop Chop Fruit, is first up, and sadly it’s the current weakest Paramecia in the series. Despite being pretty strong on paper, we haven’t seen Buggy do much with it, even though he has appeared in the series quite a lot.
This devil fruit turns its user into a “Splitting Human,” allowing them to split their body into multiple parts and control each part individually. Buggy mainly uses this for defense, but it can also be used for offense. If we see more from this fruit in the future, it might climb up the rankings, but until then, it sits firmly at the bottom.
19. Nomi Nomi no Mi
Dr. Vegapunk’s Nomi Nomi no Mi, also known as the Brain Brain Fruit, might come across as a weak Paramecia, but it can also prove to be one of the strongest Paramecia-type devil fruits.
This devil fruit can be fantastic in the right hands, as we see with Dr. Vegapunk and his unlimited knowledge. However, compared to other Paramecia types, this one doesn’t do much in terms of offensive capabilities.
It wouldn’t do too much if any other person ate this fruit. Dr. Vegapunk is the perfect user of this fruit, making it pretty strong in his hands. The Nomi Nomi no Mi turns its user into a Brain Human, allowing them to expand their knowledge indefinitely without forgetting anything.
18. Horo Horo no Mi
Perona’s Horo Horo no Mi, also known as the Hollow Hollow Fruit, is relatively strong in the grand scheme of things, but we just haven’t seen enough of it. Perona isn’t a character we see often, nor has she fought since Thriller Bark all too much. In the future, this fruit may come in handy, though.
The Horo Horo no Mi turns its user into a Ghost Human, allowing them to produce and control ghosts. Perona produces her “Hollows,” invulnerable ghosts that can pass through objects.
When one of these Hollows touches someone, they become extremely pessimistic about themselves. This fruit works on most people but probably won’t do much against the likes of Shanks and Blackbeard nowadays.
17. Kage Kage no Mi
A once near unbeatable devil fruit, the Kage Kage no Mi, aka the Shadow Shadow Fruit, is up next. This was eaten by Gecko Moria and was a difficult task for the Straw Hat Pirates to work around back on Thriller Bark. Moria was ultimately defeated, but this devil fruit wouldn’t stand a chance nowadays against other powerful devil fruit users.
The Kage Kage no Mi turns its user into a Ruler of Shadows, allowing them to manifest and control shadows of various living creatures, including their own.
These shadows are physical and tangible, meaning their user can control and manipulate them at will. Moria was seen inserting these Shadows into new hosts, and we even saw Luffy power up by consuming a lot of them as well.
16. Hana Hana no Mi
Just because some Paramecia devi fruits are lower than the others on this list doesn’t mean they aren’t powerful. One tremendous example is Nico Robin’s Hana Hana no Mi, aka the Flower Flower Fruit.
The Hana Hana no Mi turns its user into a Flower Human, allowing her to replicate and sprout pieces of her body from the surface of any object or living thing. In the hands of Nico Robin, we have seen this fruit do some insane work, especially after her pseudo awakening with “Devil Robin” in the Wano Kuni arc.
This fruit could be even stronger if Robin weren’t opposed to punching her enemies, as she only slaps and kicks her foes. In the hands of another fighter, this fruit could be one of the strongest in the series, but right now, it’s just very strong.
15. Jiki Jiki no Mi
An extremely powerful devil fruit on its own, and in the hands of Captain Eustass Kid, who could hold his own against Big Mom, the Jiki Jiki no Mi, or the Magnet Magnet Fruit, is up next.
The Jiki Jiki no Mi allows its user to control and create a magnetic field around them, letting them pull in metallic objects together. Kid used this power to its limit in the series, figuring out he could create objects from scrap metal, such as his arm, a bull, and even the railgun he used to take Big Mom down.
Once awakened, this fruit became even stronger, allowing Kid to direct the magnetic force using an “S” or an “N” that can be placed down. He assigns these poles and can use his magnetic field to draw people towards them, as seen in his fight against Big Mom. He can also increase his magnetic field to its limit, bringing countless magnetic items to the source, as seen when he covered Big Mom in a massive pile of metal in the Wano Kuni arc.
14. Hobi Hobi no Mi
During the Dressrosa arc, this devil fruit was even more terrifying than Doflamingo’s in terms of its impact. Sugar’s Hobi Hobi no Mi allowed her to enslave most of the population and even nearly take down both Trafalgar Law and Monkey D. Luffy with ease.
The Hobi Hobi no Mi, also known as the Hobby Hobby Fruit, allows its user to turn people into toys and erase memories of their existence from others. Sugar used this to insane effect on Dressrosa, enslaving most of the population and nearly taking out two of the strongest characters in the series, but thanks to Ussop, that never happened. This fruit is exceptionally powerful as all it takes is a touch from its user to turn you into a toy.
13. Bari Bari no Mi
One of the most loyal characters in the series has one of the strongest defensive devil fruits, that, of course, being Bartolomeo. His Bari Bari no Mi, also known as the Barrier Barrier Fruit, is remarkably strong. This power is almost unbeatable unless something else comes up in the series that can destroy it. Maybe advanced armament or advanced Conqueror’s Haki could prove a threat to this devil fruit’s abilities!
The Bari Bari no Mi turns its user into a Barrier Human, allowing them to create barriers from their hands. This fruit was once eaten by Kurozumi Senimaru, but it is currently in possession of Bartolomeo. This power has shown some insane feats, from supposedly blocking Doflamingo’s Birdcage to even surviving a powerful sword slash from the legendary Kozuki Oden.
12. Toki Toki no Mi
In a way, Toki Toki no Mi is probably one of the most powerful Paramecia devil fruits in the series is up next, with the Toki Toki no Mi. The last user of this fruit was Kozuki Toki, and we don’t know if another person has eaten this fruit since her death. This devil fruit broke the logic of One Piece itself and introduced a very powerful ability.
The Toki Toki no Mi, also known as the Time Time Fruit, allows its user to travel in time but only forward. They can even send others forward in time, as we saw with the Red Scabbards in the series. Toki used this power to escape the Void Century and move forward into Roger’s era, where she met Oden.
This power can be catastrophic in the right hands, but we haven’t seen it since Toki died during the raid on Oden’s men and the fall of the Red Scabbards. The user can’t go back in time, but time travel, in general, is just insanely strong.
11. Jewelry Bonney’s Devil Fruit
Jewelry Bonney has an extremely powerful devil fruit, but sadly, it remains unnamed, even after the notable backstory and its abilities revealed during the Egghead Island arc. Despite that, this devil fruit can be extremely powerful in the right hands.
This unnamed devil fruit allows Bonney to freely manipulate the aging process of anything, including herself. This means she can change the age of herself, others, and even objects.
Bonney mainly uses this to change her age, but if she used it offensively, she could instantly turn someone like Blackbeard into a child or even an old man. Bonney’s capable of this as we see her turning Vegapunk into a child. These effects may be temporary but give the user enough time to take out powerful foes easily.
10. Mero Mero no Mi
The Mero Mero no Mi is a devil fruit Blackbeard himself went after, and one we recently got more information on, so it’s safe to say it is one of the strongest Paramecia devil fruits. Boa Hancock, the most beautiful girl in One Piece, is the current user of this fruit, and she has used it to significant effect in the series. With its powers, she can easily take on Marines, Pirates, and even Blackbeard’s Crew.
The Mero Mero no Mi, aka the Love Love Fruit, allows its user to attack with emotions such as Love, Lust, or Adoration. This also allows its user to transform others into stone who feel these effects for the user.
Another user also has this fruit’s abilities, as Boa Hancock’s Seraphim, S-Snake, can also use the power thanks to Vegapunk having successfully recreated a copy of the fruit. Here we learned that other emotions, such as seeing someone as adorable, can also trigger the stone effect.
9. Doku Doku no Mi
Doku Doku no Mi, also known as the Venom Venom Fruit, is one of the most powerful Paramecia-type devil fruits that almost took out Luffy when he fought against it. Magellan was so strong because of this fruit’s abilities that he was able to render even Blackbeard and his crew helpless in a fight.
The Doku Doku no Mi turns its user into a Poison Human, allowing its user to produce and control different types of poisons in sludge forms. This also grants the user immunity to the poison, meaning they can go all out without any side effects. As far as we know, normal Haki might not be able to stop this power, but the advanced forms of Haki most likely could.
The poison almost killed Luffy in Impel down and, without Haki’s interference, would destroy nearly anyone with ease. This power is extremely strong, but we need to see how it interacts with Haki before saying it’s any stronger.
8. Fuwa Fuwa no Mi
The Fuwa Fuwa no Mi is a Paramecia fruit we have not seen much in the canon series. This fruit is eaten by Shiki, who appeared in one of the One Piece movies, titled One Piece Film: Strong World. However, the character is canon to the story, meaning Shiki and his devil fruit could pop up again in the final saga of the series.
The Fuwa Fuwa no Mi, also known as the Float Float Fruit, allows its user to levitate themselves and any non-living thing into the air. Shiki used this fruit to significant effect in the movie, levitating objects and even a whole fleet of ships.
We know he can lift even more than that, such as small islands or even more! If Shiki comes back into the series, he will be a force to be reckoned with, that’s for sure!
7. Ito Ito no Mi
Doflamingo is undoubtedly one of the strongest villains in the series so far, mainly due to his insane devil fruit abilities. Due to his influence alone in the series, Doflamingo is a powerhouse, but thanks to the Ito Ito no Mi, he is on a whole other level.
The Ito Ito no Mi, also known as the String String Fruit, turns its user into a String Human, allowing them to create and manipulate strings at will. With this power, Doflamingo can create strings to manipulate people’s movements, pick up objects and even create traps for his enemies. He could even stitch up his internal organs after a tough battle.
This power is exceptionally versatile and even has an awakening that takes it to another level. With this awakening, Doflamingo can easily turn his environment into strings and control them. He can utilize these strings for crazy attacks, defense, and even travel by attaching strings to clouds. It’s safe to say that this power is one of the strongest in the series and was a hard fight for the Straw Hats and Law.
6. Mochi Mochi no Mi
Another of the strongest Paramecia and one of the most powerful devil fruits in the series is Katakuri’s Special Paramecia, the Mochi Mochi no Mi, also known as the Mochi Mochi Fruit. This fruit was used against Luffy during the Whole Cake Island arc and even forced him to learn Future Sight and use Snakeman, and even then, it was a close fight.
The Mochi Mochi no Mi turns its user into a Mochi Human, allowing them to create, control, and transform into Mochi.
This is the only Special Paramecia in the series so far, acting much more like a Logia-type in the hands of Charlotte Katakuri. The Mochi powers give Katakuri insane offensive abilities combined with crazy defense, thanks to being able to move his body around attacks.
5. Nikyu Nikyu no Mi
Bartholomew Kuma ate the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi and was transformed into a Paw Human. This power allows him to repel everything he touches and is manifested in physically changing his palms into paws.
Kuma can propel himself at incredible speeds using this fruit, looking like he is teleporting to those around him. The user can also deflect attacks with ease, therefore being almost untouchable. In the series, Kuma is also shown capable of pushing out pain and fatigue from people. He does this to Luffy during the Thriller Bark arc and transfers this pain to Zoro, resulting in the iconic “Nothing Happened” moment.
With all of this in mind, and the fact that we still need to learn more about this fruit, the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi, also known as the Paw Paw Fruit, sits firmly among the strongest Paramecia devil fruits.
4. Zushi Zushi no Mi
The Zushi Zushi no Mi, also known as the Press Press Fruit, was eaten by Admiral Fujitora, whose real name is Issho. With this fruit, he has the power to manipulate gravity at will. This power is extremely strong, and since its first appearance, it has been shown to make even Zoro and Sabo struggle in combat against it.
Issho has been seen picking up various large objects to throw at his enemies, such as battleships, and he has even brought down chunks of the moon itself raining down on his opponents. We don’t know much about this devil fruit’s limits, as Issho hasn’t fought much on screen. But it’s no wonder this devil fruit is wielded by someone known as one of the most powerful Marines!
3. Soru Soru no Mi
Big Mom’s Soru Soru no Mi sits at the third spot, being one of the strongest Paramecia devil fruits in the series. This devil fruit, also known as the Soul Soul Fruit, gives Big Mom the power to interact with and manipulate the souls of living beings.
With this power, she can drain the life force of others and instill it into herself. She can also place souls inside inanimate objects such as a lightning cloud, a sword, a tree, and even a battleship, similar to Gecko Moria’s devil fruit, and bring them all to life.
As we have seen in the series, the devil fruit’s abilities, accompanied by Big Mom’s innate strength and durability, make a meteoric combo fit for an Emperor of the Sea!
2. Ope Ope no Mi
Trafalgar D. Water Law has one of the strongest powers in the One Piece world, but it will cost him his life. The Ope Ope no Mi, also known as the Op Op Fruit, is already remarkably strong, as it turns its user into a Free Modification Human. It allows its user to create a spherical forcefield known as “Room,” within which they can freely alter movements, orientation, and anatomy of anything and anyone.
With this power, Law can teleport things and people around, cut people up without killing them and even attack with insane strength.
Apart from these insane abilities, the Ope Ope no Mi also has the power to make someone immortal at the cost of its user’s life. We don’t know much about this particular power, but this is why it is the most sought-after devil fruit.
1. Gura Gura no Mi
It’s time for the strongest Paramecia-type devil fruit in One Piece and one of the strongest devil fruits overall – the Gura Gura no Mi, aka the Quake Quake Fruit. This was once owned by Whitebeard himself and later stolen by Blackbeard after Whitebeard’s death at Marineford.
The Gura Gura no Mi turns its user into a Tremor Human, allowing them to create shockwaves from their hands. The user can punch the air to create cracks in the very fabric of the earth, which then sends earthquakes in an area. In the hands of Whitebeard, we saw it create tsunamis and waves and even deal massive damage to other devil fruit users.
This fruit is hands down the most powerful thing we have seen in the One Piece world in terms of devil fruits, aside from the Hito Hito no Mi: Model Nika. Now that Blackbeard possesses this devil fruit power, he is almost unstoppable when it comes to offensive capabilities.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Paramecia-type devil fruits might be the most common in the series, but that doesn’t diminish their insane power. Some Paramecia are very specific and not all that strong, but others can allow its user to take over the world or destroy it.
From Buggy’s Bara Bara no Mi to Whitebeard’s Gura Gura no Mi, Paramecia devil fruits are some of the One Piece world’s most interesting and meteoric powers. We cannot wait to see what else Oda creates in the future and what some of these fruits’ awakenings will look like as the series progresses!
