In Chainsaw Man, we can definitely find a couple of relatively popular characters due to how attractive they are and their unique personalities. That is the case with “Power,” one of the series’ main characters and possibly one of the most loved ones.
But Power is more than just a cute girl, and getting to know her better, especially considering that the anime adaptation of Chainsaw Man is ongoing, might enhance the delight you get from her existence and could help you appreciate her even more!
But there’s a lot to say about Power. At first, you might think she’s just a cute girl with a very bad personality, influenced by her instincts and her desire for survival. But the more you get to know her, the more you understand that she’s a lot more than just that! So, with that being said, let’s get straight to the point and talk about this fascinating character!
Who is Power in Chainsaw Man?
In Chainsaw Man’s plot, the presence of devils is constantly threatening human society. After devils are defeated back in hell, they are allowed to roam on Earth, where they can either be reborn as themselves or can take over corpses to become “Fiends,” existences that are very close to devils. In some cases, devils can also make contracts with humans, turning themselves into “Hybrids.”
In Power’s case, she’s the fiend of the Blood Devil, so she’s very close to being a hybrid. She was taken by Makima and made to join the Public Safety Devil Hunters alongside Aki, who takes care of both Power and Denji and ensures they are not being mischievous or causing disasters.
She also has a very human-like appearance, in the form of a young woman with long, blonde pinkish hair and red eyes. She also has horns, which can grow depending on how much blood she accumulates. The more blood, the more horns she grows, and the larger they become. She’s also very untidy, as showcased many times throughout the series since we can see her wearing the Public Safety Devil Hunters uniform with half of her shirt sticking out and her necktie being improperly worn.
Now, the most interesting thing about Power is, without a doubt, her personality and the way she interacts with Denji, Aki, and many other characters. For instance, Power is very selfish, always thinking about herself first and foremost before even doing anything for anyone else.
This can translate into her not being scared of running away from fights when she has little chance of winning and openly claiming that she’s neither on the side of humans nor devils but herself. So she’ll join anyone who has the highest chance of winning.
Power can also be considerably arrogant because of the fact that she’s a fiend and has many abilities of the Blood Devil. She tends to boast in front of other devil hunters as they only have access to a fraction of a devil’s power by making a contract, often paying a considerable price for it.
Another thing to add is that Power is extremely childish and can be a bad liar, as she lies for her sake even though the truth is pretty much in front of everyone. She’s also very unhygienic, she doesn’t flush toilets nor takes baths, although this slowly changes for the better as the story progresses, and both Denji and Aki try to teach her human manners.
Even though Power seems very selfish and doesn’t care about anyone but herself, she’s shown to be empathetic towards others. For instance, she cared so much about her cat, Meowy, to the point of attempting to sacrifice Denji to save it after the Bat Devil kidnaps it. Then, throughout the series, she develops a close, deep connection with Denji, even fighting to defend him on many occasions. She also becomes closer to Aki, having a relationship similar to that between a brother and a cheeky sister.
Now that we know more about Power, we might talk about what she is capable of as the Blood Devil and how strong she is compared to other characters.
How Strong Is Power and What Are Her Abilities as a Fiend?
As mentioned earlier, Power has access to many of the abilities of the Blood Devil. However, she’s significantly weaker than many hybrids you can see throughout the series, including Denji himself, as hybrids are well known for having considerable strength and regenerating powers, very close to immortality under some circumstances.
First of all, we have to talk about her blood-bending skills. She can store blood in her body, which allows her to control it and turn it into weapons. At the beginning of the series, we can see her using a big hammer, and later on, she’s capable of summoning spears to throw at her enemies. She can also control other people’s blood as long as she comes in contact with it, allowing her to close wounds to avoid bleeding or causing internal damage.
Although she’s a fiend and is weaker than most hybrids, she’s still very strong once certain requirements are met. For instance, if she manages to drink the blood of a stronger foe, she can regenerate and become a lot stronger. If enough blood is drunk, she can also turn into her complete Fiend form, further enhancing her powers.
Her fiend form is similar to that of a humanoid wolf with long hair, four arms, and a tail. Her eyes also have a cross in the middle, and the rib cage is opened, showing a bunch of guts connecting to her neck. In this form, Power can summon hundreds of spears and swords to pierce her enemies and becomes much faster and stronger.
Even then, a lot of her instinctual behaviors remain intact, and she will escape if she finds it necessary for her survival. Still, even while facing a very dire situation, she decided to prioritize Denji before herself and even make a contract with him so that they could become friends once again. I don’t want to spoil this particular scene, but I believe you will find Power to be the absolute cutest once you reach it!
Conclusion
I’m pretty sure that Power, as one of the series’ most popular and attractive characters, might have been why so many people gave it a chance in the first place, just like Makima achieved the same thing with her unique design. However, Power eventually became so popular during the first Popularity Poll of the series that she earned first place with over 35,000, with Makima earning second place with 27,000.
I’m pretty sure her popularity will only grow with the release of the anime adaptation, and we will be able to see the extent of her cuteness and abilities from a whole new perspective!
