Isekai anime is one of the major anime genres, and you will find tons of shows to watch, both good and bad, within minutes. And I created this article specifically to feature the best isekai anime series ever!
The isekai anime genre is quite popular, famous, and infamous for taking over the world of light novels, manga, and anime. It is undoubtedly one of those sub-genres that are very present in today’s anime industry.
This also means that you can find an incredible amount of titles related to the isekai genre, and for those wanting to dip their toes into what it has to offer, it can be challenging to assess which ones are worth your time and why. That being said, considering how different the best isekai anime titles can be, it is a good idea to try them, nevertheless, since you don’t know which one you might find interesting.
Isekai translates to “another world” and is the most versatile genre in anime. It perfectly captures the majesty of being whisked away on an adventure, with new opportunities awaiting you at every turn, at the cost of a fateful encounter with truck-kun.
Whether a fantasy world with magic and creatures of legend or a cyberpunk dystopia on the brink of collapse, you’re sure to find something that tickles your fancy. And in this list, we’ll be going through only the best of the best.
Best Isekai Anime of 2023
37. In Another World With My Smartphone
Let’s start this list with In Another World With My Smartphone. There’s a reason why this title made it to the list, as I believe it is one of those series that, although it can be fun to watch, encompasses the many problems I have with the genre.
The anime starts with God accidentally striking our lovable protagonist Touya Mochizuki with a stray bolt of lightning, killing him on the spot! To make up for his mistake, this benevolent deity gives Touya a second chance at life in a new world filled with magic and monsters one would only see in fairy tales. As a bonus, Touya can bring one item with him, and he chooses … his smartphone!
Still, that smartphone doesn’t really play an important role in the series, and the protagonist is just given a bunch of cheat skills that make him strong, and then he’s followed by a bunch of cute girls who end up falling in love with him.
Classic harem approach, but hey, you might like it if you give this anime a chance!
36. The Vision of Escaflowne
Many people believe that the isekai anime genre is recent, and although the name was introduced a couple of years back, it is a genre that’s been present for a while. The Vision of Escaflowne is an excellent example to prove this.
This anime revolves around Hitomi, and the story focuses on her adventures in the world of Gaea after she was transported to it just after constantly having visions about fantastic creatures and unknown people.
Hitomi’s main goal throughout the series is to help Van, who was meant to be the king of the Fanelia kingdom, help save the world of Gaea and find a way to return to Japan.
35. Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest
Often referred to as Arifureta, this one is another case of the main character being overpowered. This particular trope is referred to as a power fantasy, and this series is very involved in this trope.
This title starts with an entire classroom being teleported to a fantasy world where all students gain powerful abilities and are asked to become heroes for the kingdom and save them from foreign threats. Thus, they are trained for the sake of it. Hajime is the main character, and he, “sadly,” gets the ability to transmute materials, which is considered the weakest.
After exploring a dungeon, the whole classroom is almost trapped in it, and Hajime falls to the deepest part of the dungeon. There, he eats monsters to survive, gaining abilities, and slowly starts his path to become the strongest, meeting Yue in the process, a trapped vampire girl sealed hundreds of years ago.
Although not many isekai fans would see it fit to be among the best isekai anime titles, I think it deserves to be here as watching it isn’t boring, and it’s a great way to pass the time!
34. Reincarnated as a Sword
As you might know, the whole idea of the isekai genre is to be reincarnated or teleported to a strange new world whose rules are completely different from ours. Although most of these worlds are fantasy-focused, some can be technology-focused.
That being said, reincarnation sometimes doesn’t involve being reincarnated as a human because there are titles where the main character is reincarnated as a different species or as an object. In the case of this isekai anime, the main character gets reincarnated as a sword.
Reincarnated as a Sword pretty much reveals the whole plot in a single sentence. A man dies in a car accident (a prevalent trope in this genre) and is reincarnated as a legendary sword in a magical world, with no recollection of who he was in his previous life. This sword is then pulled by a cat girl who was sold into slavery as their caravan was being attacked, and thus, they decide to travel together, with the cat girl, Fran, calling the sword “Teacher.”
33. Restaurant to Another World
This is the perfect example to showcase that isekai anime shows don’t have to focus on fighting. Some of them can showcase other subgenres, too, from comedy to romance, and this one, in particular, involves cooking.
Residing in the ever-bustling Tokyo shopping district is the renowned Western Restaurant Nekoya, famous for its wide varieties of worldwide cuisine. Tokyo residents have come to love this eatery and visit it often, except on Saturdays when the owner closes its doors. However, as the doors are closed to humanity, a new variety of guests find their way inside.
The restaurant takes care of a special type of client, residents of another world, dragons, elves, fairies, you name it. These mysterious customers will find themselves coming back for more, and so will you!
32. Wise Man’s Grandchild
Like many main characters of this list, a young salaryman dies from an accident, then is reincarnated into a new world. Holding his memories from his previous life and being adopted and taught by the great sage, Merlin, now named Shin, he becomes a powerful magician, mainly thanks to his knowledge and memories of science.
Although Shin is blessed with tremendous magical powers and is a master in magical arts, he doesn’t understand anything about the day-to-day lives of this new world he is born into.
Since Merlin forgot to teach Shin common sense about this new world, he is enrolled in an academy to learn as much as he can about society. On his way to the academy, Shin ends up saving a couple of girls who were being targeted by thugs, and thus, his school and love lives begin.
31. I’m the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss
As you’ll notice from this article, some isekai anime titles can be pretty interesting and focus on mundane stuff. I’m the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss is one of those cases, primarily focusing on romance and comedy. The main character of this anime is Aileen, a girl who was reincarnated from Japan into the world of an otome game.
Now, knowing exactly what happens in the game and what Aileen’s fate is, she does her best to become capable and eventually meets with the person who’s fated to kill her – Claude, the lord of the demons and the final boss of the game, all for the sake of taming him and winning his heart, so she doesn’t meet her end at his hands.
30. Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun
Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun can be considered an isekai title because the main character does leave the human world and travels to an alternate world, the demon world, to be precise. However, most people consider it a shonen title, more focused on comedy than anything.
The title revolves around the adventures of Iruma after he was sold (and adopted) by a demon, who is the chairman of the Babyls school for demons.
There, Iruma will have to improve his rank as a demon while hiding the fact that he is, in fact, a human. Although he doesn’t want to draw attention, he gets into a duel with Alice, one of the most talented first-year students, which he manages to win and win over Alice’s respect. He’ll also befriend many other characters, including Clara, a very childish demon, and Ameri, the student council president.
29. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash
This anime was not as popular as many other titles in this list, yet it is one of the best isekai anime you can enjoy. It has its drawbacks, though; one of them is that you won’t probably get a continuation of the series, so bear that in mind if you decide to start it. Even then, it’s a personal recommendation of mine, so please, give it a try!
Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash features a group of people who find themselves in the mystical world of Grimgar with nothing but their names and the will to live. There are no do-overs here in this strange world.
With all the strong individuals teaming up together, Grimgar follows the tale of a party of weaklings who can do nothing but fight for their survival and that of their new home. A priest, a thief, a hunter, a mage, a warrior, and a dark knight struggle to stake their claim in this bleak world of fantasy and ashes, where the reality of the situation is much more brutal to deal with than they initially thought.
28. Blood Blockade Battlefront
Another series that might barely enter the category of isekai is still one that involves a parallel world from the one we know, so I’ll add it just for the sake of having a great series to consume.
Blood Blockade Battlefront is challenging to describe, but we can summarize things by talking about the anti-crime organization, Libra, as they fight against crimes in Hellsalem’s Lot, formerly known as New York, and is now filled with interdimensional and supernatural beings. Our main character, Leonardo, joins Libra thanks to his eyes, the “All seeing eyes of God.”
The series is packed with many fight scenes, so if you are a fan of action, this is the title you should watch!
27. Problem Children Are Coming From Another World, Aren’t They?
You Kasukabe, Izayoi Sakamaki, and Asuka Kudou are your everyday angsty teenagers bored with life in their own world. They also happen to have insanely powerful psychic abilities!
One day, they are summoned to the fantastical world of Little Garden. Here, they are allowed to let loose and participate in a series of high-stakes games on behalf of their benefactor, the lovable pink-haired rabbit girl Kurousagi.
But before these isekai protagonists can partake in these games, they need to join a group called a “Community.” With Kurousagi’s Community having lost everything it had, it’s up to these problem children to return this once prosperous land to its former glory.
26. The Rising of the Shield Hero
The Rising of the Shield Hero must be one of the most popular isekai anime shows you’ll find in this list, and without a doubt, one of those titles that earned the right to be called a cult isekai.
Firstly, the title focuses on a group of Japanese men teleported to a different world, i.e., a fantasy world, as heroes. Each of these heroes was granted a weapon, which they would use to become stronger and fight off “the waves.” But the main character, Naofumi, was given the title of “Shield Hero,” which, unknown to him, is despised by the kingdom.
He is then betrayed by the only party member he manages to get, and, to survive in this cruel world, he decides to buy a slave, a demi-human girl known as Raphtalia, who will become his sword and the only way for him to become stronger.
This isekai anime is a woeful tale of a misunderstood man who is betrayed and admonished by society. Despite all this, however, he is still a hero and is keen to remind the world of this. Indeed, this is a tale of a hero’s rise.
25. My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!
My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! is an isekai title that is slightly different from others. This one focuses on a young girl who manages to recover her memories as a young female otaku in Japan who apparently lost her life in a car accident.
Now that she has regained her memories, she understands she’s living in a virtual world of an otome game, Fortune Lover.
Now, Catarina, the protagonist, must do whatever it takes to change her fate as the villainess of the game since all routes seem to lead to her doom. To avoid this, she’ll learn as much as possible and become competitive to lead a peaceful life.
24. How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom
I enjoy watching this fantasy anime mainly because it focuses on aspects of the fantasy world that are barely touched upon, such as the economy, politics, inflation, agronomy, and more. How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom stands out on this list because of that reason!
As the name implies, a “hero” was summoned to the kingdom of Elfrieden to save it from a crisis involving everything I mentioned earlier. Not only that, the current world Elfrieden is currently engaged in an all-out war with the Demon Race, adding more complicated threats to the table.
Kazuya, the summoned hero, is given the title of king by the previous king and is also set to marry his daughter, Liscia, the only princess of Elfrieden. After assuming all the responsibilities, Kazuya assembles a group of talented people and sets out to fix the kingdom’s every problem.
23. GATE: Thus The JSDF Fought There!
This is another top isekai anime and a favorite of mine. Have you ever wondered what a world of fantasy would do if they had to go to war with the society as we know it right now? Including, of course, the weaponry and military tactics of our modern world.
Youji Itami is an off-duty Japanese Self-Defense Force or JSDF officer on his way to attend an anime convention. Upon arriving at the convention, Youji is welcomed by a portal that spawns out of thin air.
A hoard of beasts clad in armor breaks through this “gate” and begins a rampage of destruction and death. Youji springs to action and saves as many lives as possible as the rest of the JSDF attempts to push back this invasion and successfully controls the situation.
Months later, Youji is made the captain of a special recon team tasked with crossing to this new world to discover if the residents on the other side are indeed friends or foes; and try to establish friendly relations with them!
22. Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy-
Because of a mysterious contract between his parents and a goddess, Makoto is sent to a fantasy world to serve the goddess and become the hero. However, the goddess that was supposed to receive him thought of him as ugly, as she is obsessed with beauty, and decided to toss him away in the wastelands to die either devoured by monsters or of hunger.
He was also cursed to never be able to communicate with humans, but he could talk with all other species if he so desired. Makoto then does his best to try to meet other humans but only meets with non-human creatures, including Ema, who guides him to her orc tribe.
Due to this meeting, he eventually challenges the great dragon, Shen, who becomes Makoto’s servant as Tomoe, and he also fights the great Black Spider of Calamity, who also becomes his servant, now as Mio, two beautiful girls who work as her right hands helping him create a peaceful place where everyone can coexist.
21. Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear
Next on the list of the best isekai anime is Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear, which is a lighthearted title filled with comedy and adventure.
The story revolves around Yuna, a little girl obsessed with a virtual reality MMORPG known as World Fantasy Online. One day, she receives a weird bear costume from the game’s administrators that seem to come with excellent stats and abilities. Thinking it’s too cute but unable to wear it out of embarrassment, Yuna is suddenly teleported to another game’s world.
Now, the bear suit is her only weapon to survive the threats the game places against her. Unable to log out, she decides to do what she does best, explore this new world by taking on the role of an adventurer.
20. Re:Creators
The common trend in most top isekai anime is the protagonist being whisked away to another world. But what happens when that world comes to you?
Re:Creators is what you would call a reverse isekai anime where instead of the main characters going to a fantasy world, the fantasy world’s fictional characters are brought to ours.
Sota is the main character of this story, and he dreams of becoming a light novel author. He starts watching anime to get inspiration for drawing his own title, but he is sucked into the series he’s watching. After that, he manages to return to his world, followed by Selesia, the main character of the title he was watching earlier.
He then discovers that many characters from different series have also been summoned to the world, some of which are directly working with a girl wearing military attire who fought Selesia, with the promise of ending the conflict in their respective worlds.
19. Drifters
Sometimes, isekai titles (and, of course, titles of other genres) rely on one particular trope – presenting characters that are representations of real-life historical characters. In the case of this dark anime, these characters are also brought to a fantasy world, and they are referred to as “Drifters.”
The series’s main protagonist is Shimazu Toyohisa, a very talented samurai. Shimazu arrives in the world of Drifters very injured, as he was in the middle of a war and almost on death’s door after receiving several injuries. Instead of dying, he finds himself in a white hallway surrounded by hundreds of passages and a peculiar man named Murasaki in front of him.
Before he can make sense of what’s happening, he is whisked away into a mysterious land to fight as a drifter, a warrior of a time long gone that this parallel world needs to repel the evil known as the End.
In this new world, he meets Oda Nobunaga and Nasu no Yoichi, other significant historical figures of Japan. They will work together to free this corrupted land from the End and announce to these unwelcome guests that the continent is off-limits.
18. How NOT To Summon A Demon Lord
Many series of this best isekai anime list will focus on the main character getting transported into a video game, and How NOT to Summon A Demon Lord is no different! It is not just a top-tier isekai title but also one of the top-rated ecchi anime to watch!
Takuma, the series’ main character, used to play Cross Reverie and was known as the Demon Lord Diablo, a character he roleplayed with passion and was often referred to as one of the best players in the game.
One day, Takuma finds himself teleported to another world, and he quickly discovers that this is the world of Cross Reverie, and he finds himself to be Diablo, his character in the game. The two people that summoned him are two cute girls, an elf named Shera, wanting the power of a demon to be free, and Rem, a pantherian who wants to defeat the demon king Krebskulm.
The two wanted to summon a demon lord and enslave him, but the girls didn’t expect that they would end up being Takuma’s slaves instead, as Takuma’s character, the Demon King, is equipped with a magical equipment that repels all spells.
So, the two girls end up becoming slaves to Diablo after their bid to summon a demon lord and make him their slave fails. Now Takuma is a shut-in gaming addict with no social skills in real life, so he decides to roleplay as his demon lord persona to get by in this strange new world.
17. The Saga of Tanya The Evil
What I love about The Saga of Tanya The Evil is that it combines the idea of magic with classic wars in a way that makes sense and is also interesting to watch. The story is also interesting, but the main character is the center of it all.
Formerly a resident of earth, a man challenged a God called Being X in defiance, as he did not believe in a higher power. Being X, however, had other plans that resulted in this man dying in his world and getting reincarnated into a new world as a teenage girl named Tanya Degurechaff!
Now, Tanya must overcome all sorts of trials as a prodigious young soldier in this world of magic and machine. Through her actions that she meticulously and brilliantly executes to get the better of the mysterious being called Being X, she unknowingly leads her country to be one of the strongest in history. So starts an isekai anime of world domination!
16. The Hero is Overpowered But Overly Cautious
The Hero is Overpowered But Overly Cautious, also known as Cautious Hero, is more of a comedy title than anything else, but it’s undoubtedly one of the best isekai anime with tons of comedy mixed in. Some people would even argue that it also makes fun of the isekai genre!
In this series, goddesses are tasked to protect and save worlds. Ristarte, a novice goddess, was assigned to save Gaeabrande from a demon lord and its army. To do this, the goddess Ristarte summons Seiya Ryuuguuin, who is already an overpowered protagonist. That being said, Seiya appears to be overly cautious!
The phrase “better safe than sorry” does not even begin to describe this wacky epic of heroism, as we follow the overly prepared, overly cautious hero drag the lecherous goddess Ristarte across the land, unleashing his mightiest magic on … level 1 slimes? This story will surely capture the hearts of those who want funny and upbeat anime with surprisingly delicate twists that will keep you interested.
15. The Devil is a Part-Timer
The Demon Lord Satan is the most notorious figure in the land of Ente Isla, striking fear into the hearts of all who would dare oppose him. But what happens when this demon lord comes to the modern world and loses all his magical powers? He decides to work as a part-timer, of course!
The Devil Is A Part-Timer is a jolly rendition of the isekai genre that sees us accompanying Satan on his quest to conquer the land. Unfortunately, he is beaten by the hero Emilia and forced to make a hasty retreat through a dimensional portal. However, he soon finds himself in the human world!
Taking on the guise of fast-food worker Sadao Maou, Satan is determined to find his way back until he realizes that conquering Ente Isla is not enough to satiate his desires. This fable of laughter and simplicity chronicles the lord of the underworld’s adventures, taking over humanity, one happy customer at a time.
14. Uncle from Another World
As another comedy isekai anime that mostly parodies the idea of isekai, this one is especially funny, mainly because of how it does it and how the main character is just an “Uncle” that you’d find anywhere, being slightly uglier than your standard person.
The story starts with Takafumo Takaoka picking up his uncle, who was in a coma for 17 years after being hit by a truck. The truth, however, is that his uncle was stuck in another world during the whole time he was in a coma in this world, and now his uncle will have to learn how to adapt to modern society, taught by his nephew.
As thanks, his uncle shares stories of his life as an adventurer in another world, which was pretty merciless on him because of his looks. Although the nephew doesn’t believe his tales, he changes his mind when the uncle shows off his magic!
13. Overlord
Overlord is another video game isekai anime, and I believe it is the most popular one on this list, besides a couple of other titles I’ll mention in a bit. This one has the peculiarity of having main and side characters that could easily be described as villains, making it a pretty enjoyable watch.
The infamous PK (player killer) guild Ainz Ooal Gown is one of the most dangerous guilds in the MMORPG Yggdrasil. However, Yggdrasil has reached the end of its lifespan. The guild leader Momonga, an Overlord class wizard, is the last member of the guild to log out before complete termination.
Just as the countdown to the end strikes 0, Momonga discovers that he can’t log out. Now trapped in the mighty wizard body, he also realizes that his NPCs (Non-Player Characters) are no longer pieces of data but sentient beings with thoughts of their own! Thrust into an unknown new world, Momonga decides to take on the name Ainz Ooal Gown for himself, to challenge this new land he has found himself in and make it his own.
12. Ascendance of a Bookworm
Ironically enough, this story focuses on Urano Motosu, a book-loving person who is crushed to death by a pile of books just before she manages to get her dream job of being a librarian.
As her dying wish, she asks to be able to read more books in her next life, but it seems that fate wasn’t really listening to her properly. She is reincarnated into another world and finds herself as Myne, a five-year-old girl, but she soon discovers that this new world has a distinct lack of books.
In this world, books are only affordable to those with lots of money, but that won’t stop her from following her passion. Now, with memories of her past life, she’ll do her best to do what she loves, i.e., reading books, even if it means creating and printing her own books.
11. Sword Art Online
Reki Kawahara’s mega-hit series is often considered the father of modern isekai anime shows. Sword Art Online takes place within the MMORPG virtual reality space of Aincrad. On launch, hundreds of thousands of users are loaded into the game and soon meet a nightmare they can’t imagine.
The game has transformed from a straightforward fantasy adventure into a dance with life and death. The players can’t log out of the game, and each player now has one life; when they die in the game, they die in real life as well. The only way to get out of the game is by clearing all the levels and defeating the game creator.
Sword Art Online, aka SAO, revolves around our main character Kirigaya Kazuto, aka Kirito, a beta tester for the game trapped within it. He decides to clear all the levels of the game by taking advantage of the knowledge he accumulated during the beta. But he soon realizes he can’t clear the game alone. And so, he teams up with other talented players, including Asuna Yuuki, to complete Sword Art Online’s various challenges!
10. InuYasha
This is another case showcasing how the isekai genre existed much before we even started naming it isekai. This one is a pretty popular old series, and some people today might become interested in trying it out if they learn about it.
InuYasha tells the story of Kagome as she falls into a well that teleported her 500 years in the past. She then learns that she’s the reincarnation of Kikyo, a priestess tasked to purify the Shikon Jewel, which is believed to fulfill any dreams.
Kaede, Kikyo’s sister, tasks Kagome with her sister’s duty, not before the pearl was broken into several fragments that spread around the land. Now, after waking Inuyasha, a half-human half-demon, from his slumber, Kagome will have to recover all the pieces of the Shikon Jewel, and will she will end up meeting many characters along the way.
9. The Eminence in Shadow
The Eminence in Shadow would seem like yet another parody series featuring an overpowered protagonist, but it’s actually one of the best isekai anime to come out recently!
The story focuses on a man who constantly desired to rule the world from the shadows, even before he was reincarnated. However, he always knew that being a human has limits and he can never become the most powerful being in the world and rule from the shadows. That was until he got him by truck-kun, died, and found himself reincarnated into a new world.
Now, he possesses overwhelming magical powers, and Cid Kagenou finally has the means to become the ruler who would control the world from behind the scenes. He saves several people who become his followers, creates an organization named Shadow Garden, and declares that the purpose of Shadow Garden is to eradicate the Cult of Diabolos and prevent the resurrection of the Demon King.
The twist is that Cid Kagenou is making everything up, as he is just roleplaying a fantasy of there being a cult and a demon lord. Another twist is that the Cult of Diabolos actually exists, and the members of Shadow Garden are actively fighting against them. But Cid lives in his own delusional world, unaware that his activities are changing the course of the world!
8. Re:ZERO – Starting Life In Another World
Re:ZERO is, without a doubt, one of the isekai anime series I recommend the most on this list. It’s particularly slow at times and can improve in some things, but I still believe it is one of the best anime series to watch because it’s different than most titles mentioned on this list!
For most, starting life in a fantasy world would be a dream come true. Incredible abilities, fame, fortune, and even a cute heroine are the trademark package granted to the protagonist of the popular isekai anime. However, none of these rules apply to Natsuki Subaru.
Without any warning, Subaru finds himself teleported to another world. Unlike most isekai protagonists, Subaru has only one ability; the power to restart his life at a fixed point in time whenever he dies. The catch? He remembers and experiences all the pain that comes with dying and can’t tell anybody about it.
This masterfully crafted tale involves many races, such as elves, demons, and even a witch cult. It is perfect for those who wish to experience a fresh take on isekai and a new interpretation of the entire anime medium.
7. Ya Boy Kongming!
Ya Boy Kongming is an excellent comedy and reverse isekai anime released recently. It involves the famous military strategist, Zhuge Liang Kongming, who lived during the Three Kingdoms period of ancient China. He is reincarnated in modern Japan after wishing for a peaceful life just before dying.
In this world, Kongming is attracted to the world of partying in Shibuya, and while interacting with it, he meets with Eiko, someone who dreams of becoming a singer. Eiko takes pity on Kongming because he is confused after being transported from the third century to the 21st century. So she helps him get used to the modern technological world.
To repay her kindness and upon realizing Eiko’s potential, Kongming decides to use his knowledge as a master strategist to help Eiko realize her musical potential and make the world recognize her by becoming her manager!
6. KonoSuba: God’s Blessing On This Wonderful World
When talking about the best isekai anime, there’s no way you wouldn’t mention KonoSuba: God’s Blessing On This Wonderful World because it is one of the top titles ever!
KonoSuba is not just an isekai title, it’s also one of the funniest anime you’ll ever watch because its comedy is pure gold. The story begins with a professional neet (a shut-in essentially) who believes he’s risked his life to save a random passerby and dies a truly laughable and humiliating death. Our hero, Satou Kazuma, should be showered with respect and praise, but rather, he’s mocked by the goddess in charge of his reincarnation, Aqua.
When tasked with saving the world he will be reincarnated in and defeating the demon lord, he is given the option of choosing one power to take along with him. Seeking revenge, Kazuma chooses Aqua as his wish, but he soon realizes that the Goddess Aqua is completely useless.
The two face some of the craziest and most hilarious situations a fantasy setting has to offer, and Kazuma realizes that his isekai life is completely different from what he imagined. He’ll also meet many other useless characters, including a masochist knight who cannot fight and a wizard who cannot cast more than one spell per day!
5. Log Horizon
Log Horizon focuses on an MMORPG called “Elder Tale,” a popular game that has existed for a long time. However, after one of its newly released expansions rolled out, thousands of Japanese players found themselves trapped within the world of the game they’ve been playing for years, inside the body of their avatars.
We experience the narrative through the eyes of Shiroe, a support-type wizard and a veteran of the game who understands the game’s mechanics very well. Though initially confused, Shiroe soon finds his long-time friends Naotsugu and Akatsuki, and the trio seeks to make sense of their situation.
Log Horizon is a grounded isekai anime filled with a vast cast, a broad range of politics, and a unique approach to the “death game” idea.
4. No Game No Life
Everyone who has watched No Game No Life will agree that it is one of the best isekai anime ever made, and anyone who hasn’t watched it should do so right now without wasting another moment.
The anime is a beautifully written adventure of a brother-sister gamer duo codenamed “Blank.” They are obsessed with winning and are even considered urban legends because of the feats they’ve managed to achieve.
After unknowingly beating a God at a chess game, Sora and Shiro are welcomed into the world of Disboard. Games govern this place’s laws, and all problems, including those of entire societies and races, are solved with games. With the best gamers set free into this playground, even the sky is no limit for these two prodigies.
In this parallel world, Sora and Shiro meet Stephanie Dola, a girl who’s been attempting to regain her father’s throne. The duo decides to aid her in her quest to regain the throne and help humanity regain its footing in the world, with the desire to ultimately become the new rules of this world.
3. Isekai Quartet
At number 3 on the best isekai anime list is Isekai Quartet, which is unlike any other title on this list! This one is a parody of multiple isekai anime series in one.
The series features characters from your favorite series, including KonoSuba, Overlord, Re:ZERO, and The Saga of Tanya The Evil, as they interact with one another in a school environment.
It starts with all the isekai characters going about their lives in their own world when they encounter a red button. Out of curiosity, they press this button and find themselves in a completely different world, where they have no choice but to lead a normal school life!
2. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation
Often referred to as the best isekai anime by many, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation is a very complex story to explain, even more without avoiding spoilers. However, we can talk about its beginning!
Mushoku Tensei tells the story of a man who was kicked out of his house for being a NEET. While he wanders the town, he tries to save a group of students from being killed by a drunk driver, but he dies in the process and finds himself reincarnated as a child in another world.
In this world, he’s now Rudeus Greyrat, and now having his past memories, he decides to try his best not to lose the opportunity granted to him.
Since it is an isekai title, it does have several cliches that you’d be very familiar with, and there are some aspects in the story that wouldn’t be your cup of tea. Regardless, it is a complex yet entertaining story filled with an exciting cast of characters and a unique world. It is also unlike most isekai anime because it has dark themes, and not everything is good with everyone in the world!
1. That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime
Retaining the number one spot among the best isekai anime, we have That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime. This title has everything you would want in an isekai series – great world-building, unique characters, fantastic pacing and progression, a charismatic main character, and lots of action!
The title, list most isekai anime, starts with our main character dying in his world and getting reincarnated into a different world. However, the twist is that he isn’t reincarnated as a human but finds himself reborn as a slime.
Soon after he wakes up in this new, wonderful world, he slowly becomes aware of his surroundings and abilities. He also hears a voice reciting a bunch of commands that he can’t make sense of, and this voice tells him he’s acquired many skills. While getting used to the surroundings, he encounters Veldora, a dragon sealed in the same cave where he was reincarnated and became his friend.
Now named Rimuru by Veldora, he gains massive powers and absorbs Veldora inside of him to try to remove his seal with the help of the Great Sage, a passive skill he received after reincarnating.
That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime is a superb blend of comedy, action, slice-of-life, and adventure as we follow the newly reborn Rimuru on his quest to build a kingdom of monsters where he can have no worries and be at ease surrounded by those he loves.
