Although Spy x Family enters the category of shonen, it is a lot more than just that, being a well-written comedy with a wholesome premise linked to a family. The manga’s popularity also carried the anime, making it very popular even before it started.
Now, if you are a manga enthusiast, or you just want to read the manga after watching the anime, some of the questions you might ask are whether the manga is worth the read or how many chapters/volumes it has.
Just like the anime, the manga is still unfinished, and a lot more story is coming up. However, just like it happens with many series, the manga is much more advanced than the anime, so if you start reading it, you’ll find a great deal of content.
Even then, the question remains, how many volumes does the series have? Well, that’s what we will see in this article. So, let’s get started!

What is Spy x Family Manga All About?
Spy x Family, as mentioned earlier, belongs to the shonen category. Even then, although the shonen genre is well-known for being action-oriented, this one focuses more on comedy and sometimes introduces some level of romance and wholesomeness that makes the series endearing to read and pretty funny too.
The title introduces a set of three main characters, who are the foundation of this series, and of course, the nations of Ostania and Westalis.
At first, we have Twilight, a legendary, nameless spy who works under Westalis’ wings. He is tasked with spying on Donovan Desmond, the leader of Ostania’s National Unity Party, mainly due to the chances of war breaking between the two nations.
The problem is that Donovan Desmond is well-known for being a rather reclusive person and only makes a few public apparitions, including visiting the school his son attends, the prestigious Eden Academy, which is only reserved for the most talented and elegant of people.
To achieve his goal, Twilight will have to work under a fake identity, Loid Forger, and he will have to create a fake family soon because the entrance tests for the Eden Academy will happen relatively soon. With this in mind, Loid decides to adopt a child, eventually adopting a small girl named Anya.
What Twilight, now Loid, doesn’t know is that Anya is actually an esper and is capable of reading minds. Reading Loid’s mind during his attempt to adopt someone, she does her best to be adopted by him, mainly because of his admiration towards spies thanks to an animated show she regularly watches on TV.
Loid believes Anya is actually smart, just to find her to be a very strange girl who is actually on the dumb side. Even then, determined to carry over with his plans, Loid does his best to keep Anya safe and make her happy and capable of handling the challenges the Eden Academy might throw at her.
But unknown to one of the Eden Academy’s rules, the children also need a mother. Loid eventually meets Yor, a beautiful woman who hires the services of the same tailor Loid hired to make Anya’s uniform. After talking with her, Yor asks him to be his fake boyfriend to attend a party and relieve the worries of her younger brother. They ultimately decide to work together, Loid aiming to carry his plans and Yor wanting to have a partner to fit society better.
In secret, however, Yor is actually the “Thorn Princess,” a professional assassin that works in the underworld, a job she took to afford his younger brother’s education and their lifestyle, as they are both orphans.
This introduces a hilarious premise where Loid knows nothing about his partner and adopted child, and Yor also knows nothing about them. In contrast, Anya, as a mind-reading child, knows everything about the two.
Conclusion
The series is a pretty good combination of action, comedy, and heartwarming events between the characters. Anya is also a rather good comedic-relief character, and the crazy situations all of them find themselves in are incredibly funny. There’s also the possible romantic relationship between Loid and Yor, which has the potential to progress as the manga continues, something you won’t be able to enjoy if you only stick to the anime.
At this right moment, the manga is in the perfect spot to be started, as its serialization was kind of slowed down due to its anime adaptation. If you don’t want to miss the hype train, jump on it and enjoy the ride!
