As expected, skeptics attributed this sudden surge in the series’ popularity to mere luck.
However, Kaguya-sama: Love is War is a unique rom-com that doesn’t hinge on the idea that two characters fell in love when they had nothing in common. Instead, it portrays two protagonists with such perfect chemistry that even the difference in their social statuses has become meaningless.
In fact, the only thing stopping the two ‘supposed’ lovers from getting into a relationship is their “pride” because ‘whoever confesses first, kinda loses.’
As both characters scheme to make the other person confess first, the series delves into hilarious moments and psychological twists.
Since no other series features two ‘lovers’ trying to outwit each other in love, the series truly presents a fresh take on rom-com. In that sense, Kaguya-sama: Love is War was bound to become famous.
So when Studio A-1 Pictures adapted and released the first season of Kaguya-sama: Love is War in the first quarter of 2019, the series garnered unprecedented recognition. This led A-1 Pictures to renew the series for a second season, which too performed exceptionally well. And so, the series was greenlit for a third time.
The success of season 3 resulted in the release of the movie titled, ‘Kaguya-sama: Love is War – The First Kiss that Never Ends’ in December 2022.

There can be multiple reasons why the series hasn’t yet been renewed for another season, but it’s the producers who’d be well aware of those. We, as fans, can only speculate and wait for any update regarding the 4th season.
One reason behind the delay in renewal might be that A-1 Pictures seem to have a tight schedule for the year. The studio is currently releasing ‘NeiR: Automata Ver1.1a’ and ‘Mashle: Magic and Muscles.’ It has also scheduled ‘Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle: Rhyme Anima+,’ ‘Eisen Flugel’ and “Fate/Strange Fake: Whispers of Dawn” for the latter half of 2023.
Meanwhile, A-1 Pictures will also be working on the Solo Leveling anime adaptation, which is set to release in January 2024.

Kaguya-sama: Love is War Plot & Season 4 Expectations
Kaguya-sama: Love is War is set in the prestigious Shuchiin Academy, where the student council president, Miyuki Shirogane, is the top student from a humble background. But he is respected across the prefecture for his academic excellence.
Meanwhile, the vice president is another top student named Kaguya Shinomiya, who is the eldest daughter of a wealthy conglomerate family.
Despite the difference in their social status, Kaguya and Miyuki complement each other so well that students see them as a power couple. But it’s not like Kaguya and Miyuki are unaware of how well they suit each other. Only, they’re very competitive and think that ‘confessing first’ means losing in love life.
And so, the series follows how they scheme to make the other person confess first.
But in the Kaguya-sama: Love is War season 3 finale, Miyuki finally confesses to Kaguya on the rooftop by releasing dozens of heart-shaped balloons to express his love and asks Kaguya to apply to Stanford alongside him.
Meanwhile, Kaguya responds by kissing Miyuki rather than confessing.
The third season covers up to the 13th arc of the series titled “Dual Confessions Cultural Festival,” and the movie “Kaguya-sama: Love is War – The First Kiss that Never Ends” covers the 14th arc in the story. And so, Kaguya-sama: Love is War season 4 will likely pick from the 15th arc of the series titled “New Game Arc.”
So, we can expect Kaguya and Miyuki to openly go on dates and be more expressive in their confessions. They may also deal with certain realities revolving around the difference in their social status.
We can also expect Kaguya to introduce Miyuki as her boyfriend to her family.
Since the previous seasons contained 12 episodes each, we can anticipate that Kaguya-sama: Love is War season 4 will also have 12-13 episodes.
However, all of this is based on assumption as the series is yet to be renewed.
Is There a Trailer for Kaguya-sama: Love is War Season 4?
So far, there’s no official trailer for the 4th season of Kaguya-sama: Love is War, as the series is yet to be officially renewed.
But the series’ official media team has been consistently participating in various collaboration events across Japan. So, we can assume that the anime renewal is under consideration as these events are often scheduled to maintain public hype. So, we can hope for a trailer or PV to come out soon.
Who Will Be the Cast & Crew for Season 4 of Kaguya-sama: Love is War?
Since Kaguya-sama: Love is War season 4 is not yet greenlit, we cannot say for sure. But it seems the previous cast and crew from A-1 Pictures will reprise their roles for season 4.
So, we can expect Shinichi Omata and Yasuhiro Nakanishi to return as the main director and scriptwriter, respectively. Meanwhile, Yuuko Yahiro, Jin Aketagawa, and Kei Haneoka will likely reprise their roles as character designer, sound director, and music composer.
