What is Demon Slayer Manga All About?
Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba is a manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge. It is a heartbreaking story of Tanjiro Kamado, a kind boy who loses everything in the blink of an eye!
Tanjiro lives with his mother and younger siblings and makes a living selling charcoal. One day, he heads to town to sell the charcoal to have enough food and money to last them during the holidays. He makes the journey all alone while his mother and siblings stay back at their place.
After selling the charcoal and spending the night at an elder’s place since it was too dark and dangerous to journey back home, he makes his way back to his family the following morning. But instead of the smiling faces of his family members, he only finds carnage!
There was a demon attack while he was away, and his mother and siblings were brutally killed. None of them survived the night. However, his younger sister, Nezuko Kamado, is still alive, but not everything is okay with her as she has been transformed into a demon.
Instead of sitting around crying because his entire family’s been slaughtered, Tanjiro decides to take Nezuko into town to get her treated. But she starts showing demonic tendencies on the way and attacks Tanjiro. At the same time, a member of the Demon Slayer Corps, Giyu Tomioka, appears on the scene to kill the demon, i.e., Nezuko.
Tanjiro tries to protect Nezuko from Giyu. Even though Nezuko is a bloodthirsty demon, she comes to her senses, albeit a little bit, and remembers that Tanjiro is her brother, and she also protects Tanjiro from Giyu.
This perplexes Giyu Tomioka, who decides not to kill Nezuko and instead tells Tanjiro to go to Mount Sagiri and meet with Sakonji Urokodaki. Tanjiro obeys him and goes to meet Sakonji, who decides to train him and make him a Demon Slayer.
And so begins Tanjiro’s journey of becoming a Demon Slayer, joining the corps, making new friends, and finding the demon responsible for the massacre of his family. Tanjiro vows to not only exterminate the demons but also find a cure to turn Nezuko back into a human.
