Despite the best efforts of the World Government and the Marines, pirates run the One Piece world with relative ease. Even some of the weakest pirates in the series have control over massive areas of land or even their respective seas. Just look at Don Krieg, for example; that guy was supposedly the strongest in East Blue until the Straw Hats showed up.
Because of the influence pirates have and how strong some of them are, it’s safe to say that they can do what they want most of the time. This mainly goes for the strongest in the series, such as the Red Hair Pirates, Beast Pirates, Straw Hat Pirates, Kid Pirates, Heart Pirates, and of course, the Blackbeard Pirates.
These top pirate crews have their own mindset, control, and set of powers to boot. One pirate group that people sent to fixate on is the Blackbeard Pirates, the crew that the Straw Hats will most likely clash with come the end of the series.
It’s also one of the most interesting pirate crews in the story, so having an article dedicated to the Blackbeard Pirates and all its members was a must. So, let’s not waste any more time and talk about Blackbeard and his crew!
Who Are the Blackbeard Pirates?
The Blackbeard Pirates are one of the strongest crews in the entire series, currently beating out the Straw Hats and maybe on par with the Red Hair Pirates. Ever since the creation of the group, Blackbeard has been adding more and more beastly allies to bolster his ranks.
Unlike most pirate groups, the Blackbeard pirates seem to have some kind of animosity among them. They don’t exactly like one another and only listen to themselves and, of course, Marshall D. Teach, aka Blackbeard.
The crew started with only five members and has grown to ten after breaking out several of the strongest prisoners from Impel Down, such as Catarina Devon and Shiryu.
This crew is incredibly strong, with its members now possessing some of the best devil fruits in the series, thanks to Blackbeard searching and stealing them all. This crew went from being relatively powerful to competing with Luffy, Shanks, and their respective crews.
Being a significant adversary means that this crew must have some evil and mystery around them. Oda introduced Blackbeard with an aura of mystery surrounding him from the get-go. The iconic “them” line that Luffy and Zoro utter after meeting him for the first time is still something fans theorize about.
Then there’s their Jolly Roger, which features three skulls rather than the traditional 1. This feeds into the theory that Blackbeard has three souls and the power to steal other devil fruits and eat more than one devil fruit without dying, which was thought impossible.
It’s safe to say that each member of the Blackbeard Pirates joined for devious reasons, especially those recruited from Impel Down.
Their total bounty is currently sitting at over 4,194,200,0000 Berries! This is partly due to Blackbeard having one of the highest single bounties in the series and his crew gaining a lot of notoriety from their time in Impel Down. Most of the crew’s bounties are yet to be revealed, so that number is likely much higher.
Almost all the members of Blackbeard Pirates are insanely strong, so it’s hard to tell who the weakest and strongest are. Blackbeard and Aokiji have to be the strongest, while Doc Q and Stronger might be the weakest, but that could all change depending on when we see them go all out in a battle!
All Members of Blackbeard Pirates, Ranked
1. Marshall D. Teach, aka Blackbeard
Marshall D. Teach leads his crew as its Commodore, and he has earned a place as one of the Emperors of the Sea. This takes him to another level in terms of his strength and how strong his hold in the One Piece world is.
Blackbeard’s screen time is pretty low for a major antagonist in the series, but as we delve deeper into the final saga of the series, he is likely to show his face more. We even recently saw him fighting Trafalgar Law following the Wano Kingdom arc.
Currently, Blackbeard is the only person in the One Piece world with the power to eat two devil fruits and not die. He possesses the powers of two of the strongest devil fruits in the One Piece world, the Gura Gura no Mi and the Yami Yami no Mi. Due to this, he became an Emperor of the sea, and his bounty sits pretty at 3,996,000,000 Berries!
Blackbeard also has access to two types of Haki, Observation and Armament, but we wouldn’t be surprised if he awakened Conqueror’s Haki at some point.
2. Kuzan, aka Aokiji
A shocking addition to the Blackbeard Pirates was Kuzan, widely known as Aokiji. We were introduced to this character when he was working for the World Government as one of the Marine Admirals, but after his battle with Akainu for the Fleet Admiral position, he left the Marines. Sometime later, he joined the Blackbeard Pirates in a massive twist no one saw coming.
Kuzan has the Hie Hie no Mi, or the Ice Ice Fruit, which turns him into an Ice Human. This is one of the strongest Logia-type devil fruit, allowing him to perform incredible feats like freezing water around Marineford to stop Whitebeard’s attacks and even hold his own against Akainu.
He has no bounty, but we are sure it will be enormous, considering exactly who he is and what he did in the past. Besides his powerful devil fruit, Kuzan has access to Observation and Armament Haki and is highly skilled at using them in combat!
3. Jesus Burgess
One of the founding members of the Blackbeard Pirates is the iconic Jesus Burgess, who is currently the Helmsman and Titanic Captain of the First Ship. Burgess is extremely loyal to Blackbeard and will never leave his side.
His powers revolve around the Riki Riki no Mi, known as the Strong Strong Fruit. With this power, he can grow his strength twofold, having almost superhuman abilities. He also has access to both Observation and Armament Haki, meaning he is a formidable enemy to anyone!
We don’t know his current bounty, but it is at least 20,000,000 Berries. However, that number might have significantly increased considering the notoriety of the Blackbeard Pirates!
4. Shiryu
Before joining the Blackbeard Pirates, Shiryu was once the head jailer of Impel Down before Magellan took his place. Shiryu was imprisoned in Impel Down itself due to his murderous violence towards the inmates. However, when Luffy and Blackbeard were causing havoc in Impel Down, Shiryu was released to quell the chaos, but he decided to assist Blackbeard and joined his crew.
Nowadays, Shiryu is the Titanic Captain of the Second Ship, with no confirmed bounty yet. Due to his bloodlust, Teach knew he would be a perfect member of his fleet, and he was right. He is easily one of the crew’s most vital members, especially now that he has Absalom’s Suke Suke no Mi, a Paramecia-type devil fruit that allows him to go invisible.
This is all we know about Shiryu, as he hasn’t done much in the story. We don’t know what types of Haki he possesses or anything else he might have under his sleeve. He was recently involved in the battle on Hachinosu Island, where he dealt a decisive blow to Garp, but aside from this, we haven’t seen much of him.
5. Van Augur
Another one of the Blackbeard Pirates’ founding members is Van Augur. Augur is the sniper of the crew and was placed as the Titanic Captain of the Third Ship. Recently it was revealed that Augur had a very insane devil fruit with the Wapu Wapu no Mi, allowing him to teleport himself and others anywhere he desires.
Similarly to other snipers in the series, his shooting skills are unmatched by those around him, and he is one of the best marksmen in the series we have seen, along with Yassop and, hopefully, Usopp.
Though we know of his incredible shooting skills and devil fruit powers, it is unconfirmed whether he uses Haki, but it’s most likely that he does use it, considering his position. We also do not know his current bounty, similar to Burgess, but it is at least over 64,000,000 Berries!
6. Avalo Pizarro
Like most of Blackbeard’s current crew, Avalo Pizarro was a prison in Impel Down’s Level 6. Pizarro was given prison time thanks to his titanic and oppressive rule over a North Blue Kingdom. His subjects would riot against him, and as a result, he ended up in Impel Down, where he met Blackbeard.
Pizarro was another great addition to Blackbeard’s crew, as he was already one of the strongest characters the One Piece world had seen. However, with the recent reveal of his devil fruit, Pizarro has gotten even stronger.
He has the Shima Shima no Mi, allowing him to merge with the island he’s on! He can control not only the island itself but all of its buildings and features. His Haki powers and bounty are unconfirmed, but with his strength already, I don’t think we want to know!
7. Catarina Devon
Regarded as the deadliest female pirate to ever be imprisoned within Impel Down, Catarina Devon is up next. With an unconfirmed bounty and level of Haki, she is now the Titanic Captain of the Sixth Ship within the Blackbeard Pirates.
After being freed from Impel Down, she ate the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Kyubi no Kitsune, a Mythical Zoan-type devil fruit, which allows her to turn into a nine-tailed fox. Because of this power, she can impersonate anybody in the world by transforming into them.
This has insane practical uses, as she could even pretend to be Roger or Akainu if she wanted to. This makes her a deadly member of Blackbeard’s crew, but we need to see her in action more to see how strong she is!
8. Lafitte
Lafitte is an extremely mysterious and original member of the Blackbeard pirates. His primary powers seem to lie in his navigational skills and his unnamed devil fruit power. Since his inception, Lafitte has shown the ability to grow wings on his back, but it’s unconfirmed if this is a part of his race or a devil fruit power.
Lafitte is also the Chief of Staff and the Titanic Captain of the Fifth Ship, with an unconfirmed bounty and Haki prowess. We can be sure that Lafitte is strong as Blackbeard wouldn’t have any weak members on his crew, so hopefully, we will see his power sooner rather than later.
9. San Juan Wolf
San Juan Wolf is a part of the Giant race within One Piece, meaning he already boasts some incredible strength. But he ate the Deka Deka no Mi devil fruit, which allows him to get even bigger than the usual heights of Giants. Wolf was given the title of Titanic Captain of the Seventh Ship.
Even before meeting Teach, he was imprisoned within Impel Down for some pretty bad crimes. His crimes were so heinous that the Marines had to erase his record to cover it up! Whatever he did earned him the title of “Colossal Battleship” and led him to where we see him today.
His Haki powers are currently unconfirmed, but surely he has some sort of prowess to be that strong in a world full of devil fruit users. One weird thing about Wolf is that he was able to sneak into Marineford without anyone seeing him, despite his massive size.
10. Vasco Shot
Vasco Shot was another member of the heinous criminals that Blackbeard freed from Impel Down. He has the nickname “Heavy Drinker,” which is shown in him constantly drinking when he appears in the series. Blackbeard released this madman, making him the Titanic Captain of the Eight Ship.
From the latest batch of the devil fruit reveals surrounding the Blackbeard Pirates, it seems like he ate the Gabu Gabu no Mi, which allows him to use his drinking problem as a meteoric power. We don’t understand how this fruit works just yet, or what abilities it bestows, but it looks like Vasco Shot can use alcohol to fire off shots and attack his enemies.
11. Doc Q
Doc Q is the doctor of the Blackbeard Pirates and has been around since the beginning. He is an original member of the Blackbeard Pirates and tends to resemble the grim reaper with his scythe and an extremely sick horse.
Doc himself also looks pretty sick at all times, as his horse tends to carry him around. We now know that Doc Q ate the Shiku Shiku no Mi, which allows him to spread sickness in any form to anyone around him. We saw this through his changing the gender of Trafalgar Law from a considerable distance.
Despite his weird powers and current lack of Haki, Doc Q is a compelling member of the fleet as he is the Titanic Captain of the Ninth Ship.
12. Kikipatsu, Maki, Tori and Stronger
Finally, we have some random extra members of the Blackbeard Pirates. First is Stronger, Doc Q’s Horse, who ate the Uma Uma no Mi: Model Pegasus, allowing him to turn into a mythical Pegasus. Stronger can now fly and probably has some other unconfirmed powers.
Next, we have Maki, Tori, and Kikipatsu, all introduced during the Wano Arc when Blackbeard appeared. There is no other information on these characters besides their names, but they will probably have some other importance later in the series.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the Blackbeard Pirates are among the strongest and most notorious pirate crews in the One Piece world. Led by the enigmatic and powerful Marshall D. Teach, they have amassed a formidable lineup of members, each with their own unique strengths and abilities.
With Blackbeard’s ability to wield two devil fruits and the crew’s relentless pursuit of power, they have become a significant threat to the Straw Hat Pirates and other influential factions.
As the series approaches its climax, the clash between the Blackbeard Pirates and their adversaries promises to be an epic and defining moment in the world of One Piece!
