Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba tasted instant success as soon as its first episode premiered, and it just kept climbing the popularity charts with every new season released.
By the time the first season ended, it had become one of the best anime series of the year, and it won’t be wrong to consider it one of the best anime series of all time. Even the movie “Mugen Train,” which came out after season 1, became the highest-grossing anime movie worldwide!
Now that Season 4 has finished airing, and the Final Arc has been announced as a Movie Trilogy, it’s the right time to start watching Demon Slayer in order!

What is Demon Slayer Anime’s Plot?
The anime follows the story of Tanjiro Kamado, who’s been caring for his family and living a peaceful life with them since his father’s death.
One day, after returning home from work, he finds that his whole family has been slaughtered except his younger sister, Nezuko Kamado, who has been transformed into a bloodthirsty demon.
He vows to protect the only sibling he now has, even though she is a demon, and he sets out to look for a cure to transform his sister into a human.
Along his journey, he discovers the existence of the Demon Slayer Corps, an elite organization that fights demons lurking in the dark of the night. He joins the corps to get closer to the “Demon” responsible for his family’s death and get closer to finding the cure!
That’s the basic synopsis of the show, and I will keep it that way as I don’t want to spoil anything for you!

As a super popular anime franchise, Demon Slayer is available on almost all streaming platforms.

How Dark is the Demon Slayer Anime?
After reading the show’s synopsis, you might think it will be a dark and gruesome series, and that’s true to a certain extent.
Yes, there are demons that devour humans all the time, but this is a shonen title, so the carnage isn’t that extreme. And being a shonen series, it has its fair share of stupidity and hilarious elements.
A few earlier episodes are pretty dark and emotional as Tanjiro deals with his family’s death and his sister’s transformation. But once he joins the Demon Slayer Corps and makes a couple of friends, the story starts shifting towards a lighter tone.
Of course, they are fighting demons and risking their lives, but Zenitsu and Inosuke’s antics, combined with Tanjiro’s innocence, result in some pretty funny encounters.
So yeah, this is an anime show packed with all sorts of emotions. While watching the show, you will laugh with the characters, feel their tension, pity for them, and cry. And that’s why it is one of the best anime series to watch right now!
Should I Read The Demon Slayer Manga Instead?
Usually, I would say yes to this question, but in the case of Demon Slayer, I would recommend you stick to the anime.
Studio Ufotable has done an excellent job animating the show, especially the battle sequences. You won’t get the same feeling while reading the manga.
For example, take the “Tsuzumi Mansion Arc” in the first season.
The battle between Tanjiro and Kyogai is so beautifully done. You can feel the tension and helplessness Tanjiro feels at the beginning of their battle because Kyogai can control the entire house and instantly shift the gravity however he pleases. It just doesn’t look that good in the manga!
And the animation in the latest episodes is just beyond fantastic. It’s not considered one of the best-animated shows for nothing!
Plus, the anime is pretty faithful to the manga. Unlike a show like Tokyo Ghoul, which takes a ton of liberties with the story and deviates from the original plot in the manga, Demon Slayer anime doesn’t do that. So, even if you only watch the anime, you won’t miss any critical plot points.
I am not saying you shouldn’t read the manga, you should read it if you can’t wait to know what happens next. That’s what I did when the first season concluded. I couldn’t control myself because I wanted to see the story unfold, so I read the entire Demon Slayer manga.
You can do the same, and since Demon Slayer is a completed manga, you won’t have to wait for a new chapter, either!
So, it entirely depends on whether you want to read the Demon Slayer manga or not!
