What is Attack on Titan Manga All About?
The world of “Attack on Titan” is set in medieval times, when people still relied on horses to move around, and science was not as developed.
Human society hides behind massive walls that protect it from the Titans, giant human-like monsters that roam the outside world and attack humans at sight.
Eren Yeager, the main character of this story, dreams of joining the Survey Corps, a military organization whose only purpose is to know more about the outside world and learn the mysteries behind the existence of Titans.
Although Eren admires them, the Survey Corps fails to achieve fruitful results, so Mikasa Ackerman tries to convince him not to join and even tells Eren’s parents about his plan. This causes a discussion between Eren’s mother and him, but his father, a doctor in the community, tells him that he will tell them everything he knows about the outside world once he gets back from work.
Eren and Mikasa then meet with Armin Arlert, their best friend, who believes that the outside world is filled with fantastic things that could be considered fantasy, from rivers of fire to a huge puddle of salted water. But their peaceful life comes crashing down within seconds!
After thunder hits one of the walls, and an earthquake causes everyone to lose their balance, something can be seen from a distance.
A giant titan, bigger than the walls, stares down at the people and kicks a hole in the wall. Soon, the Titans start entering the city, and the people who reside within the walls, who have only known peace for several decades, suddenly realize that they have always lived inside a prison, like birds caged behind iron bars.
Conclusion
The thing about Attack on Titan is that it takes its story and premise seriously, and this is something you learn during its first chapter.
But this seriousness carries on as you keep reading since the manga, even though it uses comic relief to its advantage, it never does so in a way that takes the seriousness of the world they live in, reducing the impact of the brutality and cruelty they face.
I hope you now know how many volumes of Attack on Titan there are so you can start reading the series. Share the article with your friends, and if possible, read the series together!
