Dragon Ball Super season 2 can’t come any sooner, and since you are definitely a fan of the series, you are eagerly awaiting any update regarding its release. So, that’s what we will talk about in this article! We’ll discuss everything we know so far about the upcoming season 2 of Dragon Ball Super.
Published as a shonen manga series in December 1984, Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball series took the entire anime world by storm. The series not only received anime and video-game adaptations but also created the iconic stereotype of an action figure.
In fact, Goku, the main protagonist of the Dragon Ball Saga, is one of the most popular anime characters and the inspiration behind several anime heroes, including Luffy and Naruto.
The series has been around for nearly three decades, yet the hype hasn’t diminished even a little bit. Arguably, every new generation of anime fans must go through a holy journey of binge-watching Dragon Ball anime at least once to be declared a true okatu.
Dragon Ball Super (DBS) is a sequel to the original anime, with events happening four years after Majin Buu’s defeat. But DBS features only a handful of original characters crossing paths with new warriors from different universes and timelines. Therefore, the Dragon Ball Super series is more action-oriented than its prequel.
Though Dragon Ball Super season 1 concluded in March 2018, there hasn’t been any news for a season 2 so far. But all is not lost because we’ve had a couple of movies set after the first season’s events. These movies include Dragon Ball Super: Broly, released in 2018, and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, released in 2022.
Now that over 5 years have passed following the first season’s conclusion, fans are eagerly waiting to know if there will be a Dragon Ball Super season 2. In my opinion, there will definitely be a season 2; it’s just a matter of when it will happen!
Will There Be Dragon Ball Super Season 2?
Most probably, YES. The last season ended on a cliffhanger with Frieza and his revived army on the loose. Furthermore, the two movies Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero were more of side stories rather than sequels to season 1, although both of them are canon.
Besides, several crew members at Toei Animation Studio have hinted at more anime production.
In one such instance, Florence Jay Dominguito, an animator currently working on new visuals at Toei Animation Philippines, expressed his desire to be part of a future Dragon Ball Saga animation team working in Japan.
Since his interview was featured on Dragon Ball Super’s official website, it seems Toei Animation studio will soon declare a renewal of DBS Season 2 or perhaps another movie.
But then, that indicates more hope and speculation rather than evidence. Also, Akira Toriyama has not issued any statements in this regard.
The Dragon Ball Super manga has plenty of material to adapt future arcs. However, I don’t think having manga material will be a hindrance because the first season didn’t really rely on the manga, as the events in the anime and the manga were happening simultaneously, and sometimes, the manga adapted story arcs featured in the anime.
So, although there is enough manga material to adapt several story arcs for Dragon Ball Super season 2, I don’t think that’s an issue for the anime creators. They are just waiting for the right time to announce the next season!
When is Dragon Ball Super Season 2 Coming Out?
Since Dragon Ball Super Season 2 is still not renewed at this point, we don’t know when it will come out. However, we do know that the Dragon Ball team has been visiting new places throughout the world.
Besides, the Dragon Ball franchise is loved worldwide, so it’s only a time before a new season is announced. I mean, the Dragon Ball Super manga is not only popular, but it is updated regularly without fail, so there’s not really any reason why we shouldn’t expect another season soon.
Furthermore, the first season ended with Frieza being permanently revived and running off to rebuild his army. And the movie, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, featured the fan-favorite character, Broly, and made him canon, and he is currently training along with Goku and Vegeta on Beerus’ planet.
Meanwhile, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero gave both Gohan and Piccolo their new transformations. It also featured Pan, Trunks, Krillin, and Android 18. And if we talk about the events happening in the manga, we also have Frieza, who’s unlocked another transformation that’s put him back to being one of the biggest threats to Goku and Vegeta.
So, it’s true that there’s no confirmation on a release date or even a release window for season 2 of Dragon Ball Super; I am sure we will get some good news soon. All I want you to do is prepare for some insane power-ups and new transformations of your favorite characters.
Dragon Ball Super Season 2 Plot Expectations:
The first season of Dragon Ball Super began four years after Majin Buu’s defeat when the God of Destruction, Beerus, woke up from his decades-long slumber to challenge the prophesied Super Saiyan God but ended up threatening the entire Earth.
As Goku’s Super Saiyan 3 wasn’t enough to beat Beerus, Goku’s friends helped him achieve a new transformation and transform into “Super Saiyan God.” But Goku still loses, only for Beerus to leave while appreciating their efforts.
Later, Beerus’s supposed assistant, Whis, trains Goku and Vegeta while the remnants of Frieza’s army revive him. This leads a golden-transformed Frieza to fight against Goku and Vegeta, who win by achieving their “Super Saiyan Blue” transformations.
Meanwhile, Beerus’s brother, Champa, from Universe 6, seeks the dragon balls from both Universes 6 & 7, leading the two brothers to hold a tournament to decide who gets the dragon balls. Eventually, Universe 7 wins and Goku ends up befriending Zeno, the God of all the Universes.
After that, we had the “Black Goku Saga,” where Goku and Vegeta travel to the future with Future Trunks to deal with an immortal enemy, and following that, we had the uber-popular “Tournament of Power Saga,” which pitted all the universes against each other.
The first season concluded with the conclusion of the “Tournament of Power” arc, and then we had the two movies, and now we await a season 2 renewal.
So, what should you expect from Dragon Ball Super season 2?
There’s a lot since the manga has had several different arcs following the Tournament of Power arc, so there’s a lot of content to adapt into anime.
Goku and Vegeta will continue to train with Whis, face new and powerful enemies that threaten multiple galaxies and even the entire universe, and our rival duo will unlock new transformations that complement their fighting styles.
Goku will master his “Ultra Instinct” form, while Vegeta will train with Beerus to harness the God of Destruction energy and achieve a unique form of his own, the “Ultra Ego” form.
So, if you can’t wait for the second season of Dragon Ball Super to release, I suggest you pick up the manga and start reading because it gets wild.
Conclusion
That’s all we know so far about season 2 of Dragon Ball Super. Since the anime hasn’t been renewed, and no details about it have been revealed, all we can do is speculate and wait till Toei Animation finally decide to focus on the series and give the fans what they want.
Until then, you can read the manga, binge-watch the first season and the movies, or rewatch the complete Dragon Ball series. When new information regarding Dragon Ball Super season 2 is announced, I will update this article immediately.
