That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime season 3 has been officially announced; it made all the anime fans worldwide really happy, but they weren’t surprised as we all expected news of a new season announcement!
Written by Fuse, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime made its debut as a 2013 web novel on a user-generated website – Shōsetsuka ni Narō. Within months, the novel became so famous that Micro Magazine started printing it in light novel volumes with exquisite illustrations by Mitz Vah.
But in mid-2015, the series topped all charts as an isekai masterpiece when Taiki Kawakami serialized its manga in monthly Shonen Sirius Magazine. Consequently, Kodansha acquired manga publishing rights for both its Japanese and English translations. And so it was hardly surprising when the Eight Bit studio picked the series for an anime adaptation.
As the isekai genre is highly saturated, many isekai anime shows have short lives, with barely a few series getting renewed for a sequel, as they have a generic plot with no major difference.
So when the first season of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, aka Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken, aka TenSura, premiered in October 2018, fans had little to no expectations from the show. But the anime proved them wrong as it broke all records and became one of the most-watched anime shows back then.
The ratings kept increasing as more episodes were screened, and before the season concluded, it was evident that the show would have multiple seasons. Fans loved the show so much that most of them, the ones who couldn’t wait for another season, decided to start reading the manga.
And before we knew it, we had a second season of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime in 2021. And now it’s 2023, and the makers of the show have confirmed that everyone’s favorite slime monster is returning with a third season very soon.
Is That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Confirmed?
On November 9, 2022, Eight Bit studio confirmed the upcoming season 3 of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime during a pre-screening event for the movie titled That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: The Movie – Scarlet Bond.
A teaser visual was also released during this event to mark the coming of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime season 3.
The visual features the Human Saint, Hinata Sakaguchi, standing in a battle against Rimuru Tempest. However, the teaser did not mention any dates for the season 3 release at that time.
When Does That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Come Out?
So far, no exact release date has been disclosed, but it’s confirmed that TenSura season 3 will release in the Spring of 2024, i.e., in April 2024.
You see, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime season 1 trailer was released in March 2018, with the season screening from October 2018 to March 2019. Meanwhile, season 2 was confirmed after the season 1 finale as a split-cour anime.
Season 2 Part 1 was supposed to air from October 2020 to January 2021, and Part 2 was scheduled for April to July 2021. The spin-off series Slime Diaries was set to release between the two parts of season 2, from January to March 2021.
However, Covid-19 pushed the timeline for season 2 and the spin-off series by a few months.
As a result, Season 2 Part 1 was released from January 2021 to March 2021, with “Slime Diaries” airing from April to June 2021, immediately followed by Season 2 Part 2, which aired from July to September 2021. The series concluded with the announcement of a movie.
The movie, Scarlet Bond: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, aired on November 25, 2022, in Japan and is set to debut in other parts of the world by March 2023.
And so, if we look through the original timelines for Season 1 and Season 2, we see a pattern of series coming out in October. And so, based on previous seasons’ releases, the third season should have premiered in October this year.
But that is not the case. The third season of That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime is all set to release in April 2024; the exact date is yet to be announced!
What to Expect from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3?
The first season of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime was directed by Yasuhito Kikuchi, with Atsushi Nakayama as the assistant director at Eight Bit Studio. Meanwhile, Kazuyuki Fudeyasu handled composing, and Ryouma Ebata designed the characters.
The staff and cast from season 1 reprised their roles for season 2 as well as the Scarlet Bond Movie.
Furthermore, Miho Okasaki voicing Rimuru, and Megumi Toyogochi voicing Great Sage, attended the Scarlet Bond Movie pre-screening on November 9, 2022. Since Season 3 was announced during this event, we anticipate the same voice actors joining the upcoming season.
We can expect the same cast from season 2 to return for season 3. So, it seems that Eight Bit Studio will retain its usual quality.
How Many Episodes will be in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3?
Season 1 consisted of 24 episodes adapted from light novel volumes 1-3. Meanwhile, the second season also consisted of 24 episodes, with 12 for each part, and was adapted from light novel volumes 4-6.

That said, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime currently contains over 22 light novel volumes. So, there is plenty of material to animate 4-5 further Seasons. So, there is a high chance for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime to return for season 4 and beyond.
What Will That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Be About?
The story of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime begins with a 37-year-old single guy named Satoru living a monotonous life. However, he gets stabbed by a random assailant.
But as he dies, Satoru hears a voice chanting a series of commands in a different language.
As Satoru regains consciousness, he finds himself reincarnated as a slime in an alternate universe. Now, he possesses an uncanny ability to devour anything and acquire its properties.
But of all the things he could have come across, he ends up near Veldora, a Storm Dragon, who was sealed for his 300-year-old crime of burning a town to ashes. Satoru feels empathy for Veldora and promises to help free him.
This leads Veldora to bestow Satoru with the name “Rimuru” and get renamed “Tempest” in return.
After this, Rimuru swallows the dragon in an attempt to analyze his prison and eventually free him. A series of events causes several creatures to recognize Rimuru as their leader, and together they become known as the Nation of Tempest.
But Rimuru’s wisdom and powers become so famous that foreign kingdoms start showing more interest. However, not all of them are allies. As the series progress, a new set of challenges come to pass, with Rimuru appearing victorious every time.
However, a dark plot is at bay, as even the Demon Lords want to influence Rimuru and his people.
And so, Season 2 shows suspicious characters in connection to a hidden demon cult. Further events lead to the awakening of Rimuru as the “True Demon Lord,” who is now actively looking for Clayman to subdue his evil deeds.
The Season 2 finale unveils how Roy Valentine was the stand-in for demon lord Luminous Valentine. Later, Frey and Carrion give up their seats as Demon lords, bringing the total number of Demon Lords from ten down to eight. Rimuru then renames them “Octagram” or “Eight Star Demon Lords.”
Following the events of season 2, the human kingdom will take more measures to hunt down the newly awakened Rimuru and to do so, they will send Hinata Sakaguchi to take down the Demon Lord and get rid of his nation of monsters.
