Back in May, Taiwanese-manufacturers HTC launched the first ever squeezable smartphone, HTC U11, and now this incredible device has arrived in India. We already knew the smartphone would hit Indian markets on Friday and now that it’s finally here, HTC U11 is probably the most talked about smartphone in the country today.
Priced at Rs. 51,990, the HTC U11 variant that has launched in India packs 6GB RAM on-board, coupled with 128GB internal storage. The smartphone will be available for purchase on Amazon India, as well as offline retailers in the coming few days.
HTC U11 ‘Edge Sense’ Technology
HTC U11 is unlike any other smartphone we’ve come across yet. Thanks to its Edge Sense technology, users can literally squeeze the edges of the device to gain access to the app dashboard, commands and other features. The squeeze function is also customizable: need to check your mail with one gesture? Just customize the squeeze function accordingly. That’s not all! The HTC U11 squeeze can also be utilized with gloves on as well, so you don’t have to go through the trouble of removing them when operating your new smartphone.
HTC U11 Specifications and Features
It’s not like we didn’t know the specs of the smartphone before, but for those who are unaware, here’s a quick roundup of all the features HTC’s new squeezable smartphone packs.
The design of the HTC U11 follows the 3D Liquid Surface design as was previously seen in the HTC U Ultra Play. This dual-SIM smartphone will be available in a variety of colors – blue, black, red and silver – all with a distinct glossy look. Moreover, HTC U11 will measure 153.9 x 75.9 x 7.9 mm, making it a sleek, slim smartphone that will keep up with the standards of all the coolest and latest handsets in the market today. Coincidentally, HTC U11 does not have an audio jack, but the earbuds will come in the box. The company has however bundled the 3.5 mm audio jack to the USB-C adapter.
HTC’s new smartphone will feature a 5.5-inch QHD display (2560 x 1440 pixels resolution) layered with the Super LCD 5 and 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top.
Powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdradon 835 SoC (clocked at 2.45 GHz), the phone will run Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The variant that has arrived in India is the 6GB RAM/128GB one, but the phone does have another model when it comes to storage and memory. Another 4GB RAM/64 GB storage variant is available in Taiwan, but has not yet reached India. Both variants have an expandable storage capacity via a microSD card.
HTC U11 packs a 12-MP primary camera at the back with 1.4-micron pixel, ultra speed autofocus, BSI and f/1.7 aperture among other properties. The camera also features dual LED lights at the back. There is also a Pro mode for photography enthusiasts to take pictures in the RAW format. The camera allows 4K recording with 3D audio. The secondary or front-facing camera has a 16-MP quality with the BSI sensor, auto Selfie mode, HDR, as well as a Voice Selfie mode. The front camera is capable of recording 1080p footage.
On the connectivity front, HTC U11 supports Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and NFC. It also has support for 4G LTE and Cat 15 LTE with download speeds up to 800 MB/s. In addition, the phone has multiple sensors include Gyro sensor, Magnetic sensor, Sensor Hub, Ambient Light sensor, Proximity, and of course the Edge Sensor.
Finally, the phone is IP67-water resistant as well, and comes with both Alexa and Google Voice Assistants.
