What is Naruto Manga All About?
There’s one particular reason why Naruto became so popular – its premise and world-building, as well as its characters, are fascinating and well-built.
At the beginning of the series, the tale introduces the story of Naruto Uzumaki, a ninja living in the Hidden Village of the Leaf who dreams of becoming the Hokage, the person who would lead the village and is often considered the strongest among all of the village’s ninjas. Naruto is, however, quite mischievous and does things like painting the faces of all previous Hokages in an attempt to catch the attention of the village’s residents.
He struggles with being lonely as an orphan and also has problems being a competent Ninja, failing many of the tests to be able to be elected to get the rank of Genin and finally starting his journey towards achieving his dream.
After failing the last test, his teacher, Iruka, decides to fail him. He becomes frustrated enough to listen to another of the instructors, Mizuki, as he tells him about a secret Ninjutsu scroll that could help him achieve his dreams.
This was but a setup by Mizuki to be able to steal the scroll, even at the cost of Naruto’s life. However, Iruka manages to catch him in his attempt to deceive Naruto, and a fight breaks out between the two while Naruto tries to secure the scroll for himself.
During the fight, Mizuki reveals the village’s biggest secret – Naruto is actually the vessel of the Nine-Tailed Fox, a demonic being who attacked the village and even caused Iruka’s parents to die.
But this doesn’t stop Iruka from supporting Naruto, claiming that he understands the pain Naruto has gone through, not stopping believing in the fact that Naruto will one day become Hokage. Thus, with his new confidence, Naruto decides to stop Mizuki and a gravely injured Iruka by using a secret technique he learned from the scroll he stole – the Shadow Clone Technique. He clones himself into hundreds of clones, overwhelming Mizuki in the process.
This earns him a passing grade and Iruka’s own ninja bandana. After all this is settled, Naruto joins Team 7 alongside Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno. They are tested by a veteran ninja, Kakashi Hatake, to see if they can become ninjas. This is the start of Naruto’s journey and one amazing story of character development involving many challenges that would put them in dire, fatal situations.
No doubt, one of the best premises you can see, and you can expect to enjoy one of the best character developments in the media, not only involving Naruto himself but many of the other characters, including Sasuke, who is part of the Uchiha clan, and Sakura, who is madly in love with Sasuke.
Conclusion
Naruto is often considered one of the greatest manga series of all time, and it achieved many things during its serialization, including a pretty successful anime adaptation. Even then, as it happens with many anime adaptations that follow the manga on a weekly basis, filler episodes had to be introduced to allow the manga to produce more content, which was one of the bad sides of the adaptation.
For this reason, many people preferred reading the manga, and even today, the manga still holds itself pretty well. You can also enjoy witnessing how Masashi Kishimoto, the manga’s author, became better and better at drawing, significantly improving the overall quality of his art, his choreographic skills, and his character designs. I would definitely suggest starting it now that you know how many volumes are there in Naruto series and the amount of time/money you can expect to invest in it!
