Jujutsu Kaisen has been ruling hearts for over two years now, counting manga releases. You can not list the several reasons why fans adore the series; it is simply impossible.
Not going to lie; for many, its characters are the primary reason why Jujutsu Kaisen is so popular, and Gojo Satoru tops the list. After that comes the animation, the plot, the action, and of course, the suspense of what will happen to Yuji.
Besides the strength of the characters, their unique powers have always intrigued the viewers. Being a JJK fan, one waits to see the strongest peeps fighting off and showcasing their abilities. Today we’ll discuss the strongest domain expansions in Jujutsu Kaisen, which is said to be the pinnacle of a sorcerer’s power, so get ready to experience chills and thrills.
Before starting, let’s elaborate on what “domain expansion” is for the ones who don’t know about it. When one uses cursed energy to create an innate domain imbued with a cursed technique in one’s surroundings, we call it a domain expansion. The techniques used in a Domain always guarantee a perfect hit on the target, which means that a person who activates his Domain and traps his opponent within will be able to get a hit no matter what.
Strongest Domain Expansions in Jujutsu Kaisen (2022)
9. Smallpox Deity’s Domain Expansion
Smallpox Deity first appeared in manga chapter 101 and is yet to appear in the anime. It’s a cursed spirit, and its domain expansion is called “Graveyard Domain,” which it used during the battle against Mei Mei and her brother Ui Ui. The Graveyard Domain is a special-grade disease curse that traps the target first in a coffin and then buries it under a gravestone. If the target fails to escape within three seconds, it will be affected by the disease and die.
Geto summoned the Smallpox Deity and challenged Mei Mei to exorcise it; if she succeeded, he would be her next target. Though it was tricky and difficult, the brother-sister duo smartly exorcised the cursed spirit.
8. Chimera Shadow Garden – Megumi Fushiguro
Megumi Fushiguro is a character that keeps everyone spellbound with his angry young man personality and kind of calm demeanor. Being one of Gojo’s disciples, one can expect him to be talented. True as it is, among the gang, Megumi is opposite to Yuji and, surprisingly, the only character who thinks and calculates before making a move.
Fushiguro used his domain expansion against the Finger Bearer cursed spirit for the first time. At that time, the domain expansion was still incomplete, but Fushiguro had no choice but to use it. Our boy and his Shikigami utilize the shadow for offensive and defensive purposes. It’s a very powerful technique; despite being incomplete, Fushiguro finished off the cursed spirit remarkably.
The domain expansion creates dark black liquid shadows. When the Domain was created for the first time, it made Fushiguro physically weak. This was the after-effect of the domain expansion because it used almost all his cursed energy.
One can clearly observe Megumi’s advanced shadow manipulation during the battle. In short, there would be much more to expect from Megumi as there is still a lot of space for improvement.
7. Deadly Sentencing – Hiromi Higuruma
A Domain typically represents the person perfectly, and sometimes it is completely contradictory to what they actually are. In the case of Hiromi Higuruma, his Domain, “Deadly Sentencing,” is a perfect manifestation of his righteous character.
Being a lawyer, he fights for justice and is always calm in making a judgment, just like his Domain Expansion. This Domain is one of the strongest domain expansions in Jujutsu Kaisen, and it was first used in manga chapter 164, so it hasn’t been shown in the anime yet.
Just like the name says, it’s about sentencing that the court orders for the culprit. In short, it’s a court curse technique. It’s a pretty intriguing and unique domain expansion. Unlike other Domains, it doesn’t allow the user or the target to be violent in any way, i.e., it doesn’t allow one to fight, and no one can be physically harmed.
Like a court, there is a Judge, the prosecutor, and the subject. The Judge knows everything about the individual and when they break the rules. The target must clear the suspicion on his case to win an acquittal of innocence from the Judge.
Hiromi Higurama used this domain expansion against Yuji Itadori. It’s an expansion similar to the past, where people used to omit the sure-hit and sure-kill factors completely.
This Domain user must enforce his rule if he wants to hit the subject. The subject/target and the user have only a single opportunity to make a statement. The target has three options: silence, confession, or denial, and if he gives a false statement, then it will be considered a denial.
Lastly, if the subject is found guilty, then the domain user can hit the target as a punishment. The Judge usually gives the sentence of confiscation where the subject is not allowed to use their cursed techniques; in Yuji’s case, it was his cursed energy.
6. Self Embodiment of Perfection – Mahito
Mahito is one of the series’ coolest and most lethal antagonists and one of the most popular characters for his manipulative and stingy personality. His powers are truly admirable and the cursed spirit being the dominating personality just adds to his persona.
Mahito used this domain expansion against Yuji and Nanami. He forms a Mahayana prison composed of multiple hands in which he traps the targets. The prisoner feels like he is inside the palm of the user’s hand. The user must touch the target’s soul to activate any technique.
It’s one of the deadliest domain expansions. Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration Cursed Technique can reshape his soul and anyone’s soul he touches. It’s nearly impossible for someone to recover one’s soul; however, it still depends upon certain different conditions.
Whenever Mahito reshapes a soul, it will ultimately reshape the victim’s body, and trust me, that’s not amusing to see.
5. Horizon of the Captivating Skandha – Dagon
Being an antagonist, Dagon is one strange, cursed spirit, yet his powers are extraordinary. However, his appearance may not be very pleasing, yet his abilities are superior to many in the series.
Like many other domain expansions, Horizon of Captivating Skandha is also a sure hit, i.e., Dagon’s Shikigami will not miss a chance to hit the target. I am sure many of the fans must have been familiar with this because it is captivating, as the name suggests.
It’s one of the calmest domain expansions, which is very obvious. Dagon summons his Shikagmi from the water in the ocean, and don’t mistake him for summoning only a single Shikigami.
Death Swarm is the technique that allows him to summon a group of Shikigami. Dagon gave a pretty tough time to the Jujutsu sorcerers, including Maki, Megumi, Naobito, and Kento. The massive currents of water he creates with his powers aren’t easy to deal with. It took the three Jujutsu sorcerers to overcome Dagon with rapid attacks, but even that wasn’t enough to defeat him.
Although we haven’t seen the domain expansion in a fight yet, we have already seen it in action. It is a domain expansion that takes you to a beach, and we have witnessed Geto, Mahito, Jogo, and Hanami meet and relax there, as seen in the anime already!
4. Coffin of the Iron Mountain – Jogo
The time when domain expansion as a technique was introduced in the series was also the time when two of the strongest domain expansions clashed.
Jogo’s domain expansion, Coffin of the Iron Mountain, is considered one of the extremely powerful domain expansions in the anime till now. But Jogo is just an unfortunate character that he always finds himself fighting opponents who are on a completely different level than him.
The domain expansion is more like a volcano with molten rock, and of course, if it’s a volcano, then the heat would be unimaginable.
It’s very tough for an average sorcerer to survive in this domain expansion because of the heat, as they will ultimately burn out. However, Gojo managed to stay cool and calm inside out. In Jogo’s expansion, the hits are guaranteed to hit, so it won’t miss the target.
3. Idle Death Gamble – Kinji Hakari
Okay, guys, many consider this one the most powerful domain expansion in Jujutsu Kaisen. And this pachinko-themed domain expansion is also one of the most complex, as Kinji Hakari used it in his fight against Hajime Kashimo.
Idle Death Gamble is like its name! Hakari simply gambles in his domain expansion, trying to hit the jackpot. The best part is that his cursed energy becomes infinite once he hits the jackpot.
After hitting the jackpot, he gets 4 minutes and 11 seconds, where his cursed energy becomes infinite, and every part of his body starts healing. Oh yes, Kahsimo thought that after 4 minutes and 11 seconds, he would be able to defeat the guy but he was shocked to find that Hakari could create a Domain once again!
Against his fight with Kashimo, the latter destroyed Hakari’s body parts with deadly attacks, but thanks to the reverse cursed technique, the body parts were healed. The fight against Kahsimo was highly deadly, and Hakari himself admitted that he had never been near death more than once in the whole day. But, as we saw the fight, we understood that winning against Hakari was nearly impossible.
2. Malevolent Shrine – Ryomen Sukuna
The King of Cursed Spirits, the strongest curse spirit, a villain, and many more similar titles define Ryomen Sukuna. However, no one can deny that he is one of the most intriguing cursed spirits and, on that note, one of the strongest.
Sukuna’s domain expansion, without any doubt, had to be the strongest. The Malevolent Shrine is considered a beautiful domain expansion by many as it is a gorgeous shrine. Don’t be bewitched by its beauty, though, as it can expand to a great range, and the target within the range can be split and cut into pieces. I guess fans have been familiar with Sukuna cutting the finger bearer into multiple pieces!
This is exceptional because, unlike other domain expansions, it doesn’t require a barrier!
The other time Sukuna used his Maleovelant Shrine was against Mahoraga. Though he could expand his Domain to 200 meters, he chose to keep it short to avoid injuring Megumi.
1. Unlimited Void – Gojo Satoru
Gojo Satoru is probably the strongest sorcerer in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen and he has a domain expansion, Unlimited Void, powerful enough based on his reputation as the strongest. The first time Gojo used his Unlimited Void was against Jogo’s Coffin of the Iron Mountain in the initial episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen. Gojo easily defeated Jogo by destroying his domain, trapping him in Unlimited Void, and paralyzing him.
While his Gojo’s domain, the target’s mind is filled with unlimited information, which is why they cannot do anything. The fight with Jogo was nothing; more of the Unlimited Void was showcased during the Shibuya Incident arc, in the manga chapters 84 to 90. There Gojo fought against Mahito, Choso, Hanami, and Jogo all at once and overpowered them without any difficulty. That’s how powerful Gojo’s domain expansion is!
Conclusion
This was all for today, my fellow otaku! I tried to explain and rank almost all the prominent Jujutsu Kaisen domain expansions from weakest to strongest, as they are currently showcased in anime and manga. Not many details are known about them in the anime yet, but details are there in the manga. There is a significant debate on this topic, and many of you might have different opinions about the rankings.
Some of you might base it on your liking, and some would go for statistics, but the fact remains that deciding which one is the strongest is really tough.
I would love to know which one of these would you rank as the strongest domain expansions in Jujutsu Kaisen; if not Gojo, who would be the strongest person? May be Sukuna, but I think we still haven’t seen the full capabilities of his domain expansion yet, so he will likely stay at the number two spot until more information is revealed.
