Kaiju No. 8 was the breakout anime series of 2024 and one of the most popular series of the year, so a sequel was pretty much guaranteed!
Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 was confirmed at the Jump Festa 2025 event, and now we have the first teaser trailer for the upcoming season, which was revealed during the AnimeJapan 2025 event!
In addition to a teaser trailer, Kaiju No. 8 season 2’s release date has also been confirmed—it will be premiering on July 19, 2025!
For the production, Studio Production I.G. will be back to handle the animation, and all the original cast and production crew will return to continue the journey in the sequel.
The manga was originally serialized in 2020, and after reaching a multi-million sales number, the anime adaptation was announced in 2022, which made the series even more popular.
The first trailer showed us what to expect in the next season while focusing more on a new character, Gen Narumi, Japan’s strongest anti-Kaiju Combatant.

What is Kaiju No. 8 About?
Kaiju No. 8 takes place in an alternate reality where monsters, better known as “Kaiju,” are normal anomalies, and Japan has the highest rate of their spawn.
The government was no stranger to these attacks in the first place, so it formed a unit called the Japan Defense Force to defeat the monsters and keep everyone in the country safe.
The Defense Force has a mess-cleaning unit that takes care of the monster’s remains after the combatants have taken out the monster. Our protagonist, Kafka Hibino, is an employee in this unit.
Kafka’s dream of joining the main Defense Force unit was shattered when he failed the physical evaluation test. However, he managed to enter the mess-cleaning unit to do his part and help tackle the monster crisis.
However, after working in the cleaning unit for a long while, he receives yet another chance to join the Defense Force and make something good of his life. As he thinks he has made enough physical improvements to join the force, something terrible happens.
A monster parasite takes control of Kafka’s body and makes him go through a drastic change, turning his body into a monster’s right before the test date. Now, with him being in this awful situation, he can either turn himself in or hide from the public eye.
