Finding a cure that will turn Nezuko back to her human self was and has always been the driving force behind Tanjiro and his path of following the footsteps of Demon Slayers. This also extends to his desire to get stronger in order to protect his sister and bring him closer to his goal.
All of this eventually leads him to follow a path that allows him to encounter Muzan Kibitsuji several times in his journey, with Muzan constantly threatening Tanjiro’s and everyone else’s lives around him.
Muzan is known as the King of Demons, the progenitor of demon kind, and the main culprit responsible for the slaughter of Tanjiro’s family. Muzan is also responsible for turning Nezuko into a demon for his ambition of conquering the sun.
Although Demon Slayer manga has officially ended with the last chapter released back in 2020, the anime, on the other hand, is still going strong with its spectacular visuals that only continue to set the bar in quality. The anime has yet to cover the final arc and the ultimate battle between the entire forces of the Demon Slayer Corps and Muzan Kibutsuji, but it’s only a matter of time before we see Demon Slayer’s ending getting an anime adaptation.
Given that the manga has been finished for some time now, several fans watching the anime who haven’t been caught up might still be wondering if Nezuko was able to become a human again. You might be curious to know if it’s even possible for a human-turned-demon to become a human and how it was made possible in Demon Slayer.
Does Nezuko Get Cured? Does Nezuko Become Human Again?
The short answer to these questions is YES! Nezuko does get cured, and she turns back into a human!
Following her transformation back into a human, Nezuko and her brother Tanjiro, along with Zenitsu and Inosuke, go back to their home in the mountains to live a happy life together in a world that is now free from the threats of demons.
During the early parts of the series, it was implied that turning a demon back into a human is possible, with Tamayo stating that a medicine can be created but just hasn’t been discovered. Tamayo served at the forefront of the development of this drug to turn demons back into humans and was able to receive help from Yushiro and Shinobu Kocho to complete the project.
Tamayo’s intention to create a medicine to turn demons back into humans was not only for herself but also to accomplish her ultimate goal of bringing down Muzan Kibutsuji, as she has an intense hatred towards him.
In an early chapter of the story, Tamayo revealed that to complete advance her research and complete developing the cure, she would require a great deal of blood from Muzan himself and Nezuko, who shared Muzan’s blood but displayed unique characteristics as a demon.
Muzan’s blood served the vital role of creating a cure as it revealed how Muzan became a demon and the events that led to his transformation, while Nezuko’s blood helped in restoring one’s humanity. Nezuko played a vital role in her becoming a human again as she was the first and only demon to develop an immunity towards sunlight which was something Muzan highly sought after.
By the time the medicine for the cure to the demonization process was completed, Nezuko was the first to receive it for treatment to become a human.
The urgency for Nezuko becoming a human was to prevent Muzan from actively targeting Nezuko as he aimed to absorb her in order to conquer his weakness towards the sun. Achieving this will make Muzan nearly impossible to kill, as he will have little to no weakness that the Demon Slayer Corps can readily exploit.
Nezuko’s reversion back into a human took several hours to accomplish as the drug was still in its initial stages. By the time the fight between Tanjiro and Muzan reached the end as the sun began to rise, Nezuko regained her humanity and turned back into a human.
At the end of Demon Slayer, Nezuko and Tanjiro are able to return back to their home, with Tanjiro giving up the profession of Demon Hunting and going back to selling coal. Inosuke and Zenitsu also came along with them to live their lives at the sibling’s home.
When Does Nezuko Turn Back into Human?
The transformation of Nezuko back into human starts taking place at the end of manga chapter 195, and she completely reverts back into being human once again in chapter 196.
However, it still hasn’t happened in the anime because this event happens in the final arc of the story, and the anime hasn’t caught up yet. When the final arc of Demon Slayer anime airs, we’ll get to see Nezuko’s transformation back into a human getting an anime adaptation, and it will be packed with emotions as always!
