Haikyuu is one of the best manga series you can ever read. If you have finally decided to start reading it, you might be wondering exactly how many volumes of Haikyuu there are. Worry not, as I will answer your question and make your manga reading journey smooth!
Manga has, believe it or not, many genres to offer. That being said, the shonen genre is the one genre that stands out the most, and this is something that cannot be argued no matter how much we would like it to be otherwise. Still, this specific genre is often composed by many other subgenres, often involving things such as action, fantasy, adventure, comedy, tragedy, bonds between characters, and also, sports.
And when it comes to sports, Haikyuu is one of the most popular sports mangas ever, similar to Blue Lock. The main reason it achieved such a level of popularity is thanks to its unique art and interesting characters.
When it comes to sports manga, the characters and the way they interact with the sport they are playing are essential for it to be successful; thus, without interesting characters, it’s tough for a sports manga to become successful. Even then, there are some exceptions out there, but this is a general rule that needs to be said.
Thanks to the Haikyuu manga’s incredible popularity, it received an anime adaptation with the same level of success, but for those who prefer to read manga, learning the basics of the series as well as how long the road is, is often considered essential. I will help you with this and more in this article, so keep reading!

What is Haikyuu Manga About?
As mentioned earlier, Haikyuu is primarily a sports shonen manga. It focuses on volleyball with some unique aspects you can find in most sport-based manga titles.
The series, for instance, revolves around its main character, Shoyo Hinata. Ever since Shoyo, as a primary school student, witnessed the great “Little Giant,” a small volleyball player that managed to win a big tournament, he has dreamed of achieving the same thing, especially since he’s also small in height.
Now, as a middle-school student, Shoyo manages to create the volleyball club, yet he’s the only member of the club. Even then, he practices by himself, and being helped by his friends; he manages to register the club for a volleyball tournament, where he is defeated by Tobio Kageyama, a member of the favorite team of the tournament and a person who earned the title of “King of the Court.”
This creates in Shoyo strong feelings of rivalry towards Tobio. After the tournament, Shoyo keeps training and doing his best until he joins the Karasuno school, the school that the Little Giant attended once upon a time. To Shoyo’s surprise, however, Tobio is also an attendee of the Karasuno school, and just like him, he’s attempting to join the volleyball club.
At first, the main members of the club doubted Shoyo’s abilities as a volleyball player, as he’s just a little above average in general skill, and he is relatively short to be a successful player. But he’s got a weapon that allows him to stand over others – his jumping ability.
Throughout the series, Shoyo, and many other characters, members of the volleyball team of Karasuno high school, will undergo many challenges, including training and facing other teams. They will also become friends and significantly improve their team play, all to become the best volleyball team in Japan.
As a shonen and sports manga that is perfect for beginners, Haikyuu has everything you are looking for. That being said, one of its good points is its characters. With many side characters as charismatic as the main characters, you will find that each of them has personalities that are different from one another and still undergo enjoyable interactions that can be funny, wholesome, or heartwarming.
The same can be said for their opponents, who are shown to be ambitious, passionate, and competitive people aiming to achieve the same goals our main characters are looking to achieve – to become the best volleyball team possible.
This manga series is pretty long, so knowing how many volumes of Haikyuu there are before you start your manga reading journey is a good thing. It will help you figure out how much time and monetary investment you’ll have to make. But if you ask for my opinion, I would say go for it because there’s a reason why Haikyuu is one of the best series of all time!
