Following the conclusion of the first season of Reincarnated as a Sword, the showrunners have officially announced Reincarnated as a Sword Season 2, which means it won’t be long before we get to see our favorite characters back in action!!
Published as a 2015 web novel on Shosetsuka ni Naro, Yuu Tanaka’s “Reincarnated as a Sword” was almost immediately labeled as ‘Just Another Isekai.’ But one year later, the series’ fame suddenly exploded when Tomowo Maruyama breathed life into its very theoretical plotline through his precise and ethereal manga illustrations.
As expected, critics attributed the manga’s phenomenal success to its isekai nature and fantasy tropes.
But even cynics cannot deny that “Reincarnated as a Sword” isn’t some stereotypical story where a random person gets reborn as some ‘Legendary Hero’ in a fantasy world. Instead, the protagonist is reincarnated as an inanimate object, i.e., a sword.
Also, the nameless sword seems to be the ‘MC’ guiding its wielder, not vice versa!
And so, Reincarnated as a Sword presents a unique storyline within the isekai genre. This is exactly why Studio C2C picked the series for an anime adaptation. But even C2C couldn’t have predicted that anime would instantly garner millions of die-hard fans. The series created such hype that netizens began to demand a sequel way before season 1 concluded.
No wonder the series was greenlit moments after Reincarnated as a Sword season 1 finale aired!
So, we’re sure there is a season 2 for Reincarnated as a Sword. But as we await the next season, the real question is: when is Reincarnated as a Sword season 2 coming out?
Reincarnated as a Sword Season 2 Release Date
Studio C2C officially announced the second season of Reincarnated as a Sword by releasing a short PV and a key visual immediately after the first season concluded. But it gave no hint of a release window. So, we still don’t know when Reincarnated as a Sword season 2 will come out.
While we can expect the second season to come out as early as mid-2024, I think the anime will get delayed until next year’s ending.
I think so because C2C studio has recently finished releasing Handyman Saito in Another World but has scheduled Shangri-La Frontier and Otaku Elf for 2023. Since C2C has been historically animating only 2-3 anime series per year, it seems the studio will not have much time to animate Reincarnated as a Sword season 2 soon.
But then, there was only one year gap between Reincarnated as a Sword’s first season announcement and release. So, we may as well receive Season 2 as early as Winter or Spring next year.
Besides, the production can start immediately as all the cast and crew members from the previous season will likely reprise their roles.
So, we can expect Shinji Ishihira, Takahiro Nagano, and Yasuharu Takanashi to return as chief director, scriptwriter, and music composer, respectively. Meanwhile, Atsuki Saito will probably reprise his role as character designer and chief animator.
Similarly, Shin-ichiro Miki will likely voice ‘Teacher’ while Ai Kakuma will play ‘Fran.’
As you are interested in the second season of Reincarnated as a Sword anime, I assume you’ve watched and thoroughly enjoyed the previous season. But if you read this article after a long time, I’ll give you a quick recap of the series.
What is Reincarnated as a Sword Anime All About?
Reincarnated as a Sword, aka Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita, begins when an unnamed man gets hit by a car and is reincarnated in another world as a sword with telekinesis ability. And so he can fly around, communicate and even learn new skills.
So, the sword decides to become a ‘legendary weapon’ by training itself. Only, it ventures too far into the forest and gets stuck inside the magic-absorbing earth. As months pass, the sword feels rusty and desperately yearns for its wielder.
Finally, his wishes come true when a group of slave-trafficking humans pass through the forest. As a bear monster attacks the group, human owners abandon their slaves and run away. But a cat-girl slave named Fran tries to distract the bear monster from eating her fellows and ends up touching the sword in the process.
The sword then forms a bond with Fran and instructs her to kill the Bear Monster. Grateful for Sword’s guidance, Fran names it “Teacher.”
The two start training together for Fran to become stronger and evolve – a feat no black cat has ever accomplished. Later, Fran joins an adventurer guild in Alessa Town. But on her first mission, Fran proves her worth by leading the expedition through a goblin dungeon. And so, the guild master grants her promotion. However, the elite members become suspicious of her ability.
And so, Fran joins another expedition to a dangerous monster-spider nest to prove her genuine worth. This time, both Teacher and Fran are saved by Amanda, an A-rank adventurer who keeps asking Fran to call her ‘Mama.’
In the season 1 finale, Fran is granted permission to visit Ulmutt village while Garrus gives her new armor. But before leaving Alessa Town, Fran nicknames Amanda by calling her ‘Mamanda’ – which causes Amanda to question if Fran is indeed the daughter of her childhood friends.
Meanwhile, the guild leader, Klimt, discusses the possibility of Fran being a spy only to be told otherwise by his nephew’s familiar, Tarua. In the ending credits, Fran gets knocked down by a Necromancer named Jean du Vix while she is surfing through the sky on Teacher.
So, Reincarnated as a Sword season 2 will feature Fran’s detailed encounter with Jean du Vix. The series will also introduce new friends and new enemies. Also, Amanda might reveal her relation to Fran’s parents. Meanwhile, Garrus may build new armor or accessories for Fran as he, too, is traveling to Ulmutt.
We’re sure the next season will be more action-packed as Fran will become stronger. Perhaps, she may even evolve.
But to know exactly what will happen next, we’ll have to wait for the sequel to come out. Or, you could just read the light novels or the manga series.
Is Reincarnated as a Sword Manga Finished?
No, Tomowo Maruyama’s Reincarnated as a Sword manga is still ongoing and currently contains over 80 chapters compiled in a total of 13 volumes.
Meanwhile, Yuu Tanaka’s original light novels contain around 100 chapters compiled in 15 volumes at the moment.
That said, Yuu Tanaka has also written a spin-off light novel series titled, “Reincarnated as a Sword: Another Wish.” But mangaka Hinako Inoue is the one adapting this spin-off series into manga illustrations. This spin-off manga currently contains a total of 5 manga volumes.
