Though we all knew that “Heavenly Delusion” had nothing to do with the real paradise, the anime squashed all hopes for any heavenly ideas with its disturbingly traumatizing finale. And yet, we’re all wondering when Heavenly Delusion season 2 will come out.
So, if you’re here looking for answers, keep reading as we talk about everything we know about the second season of Heavenly Delusion anime!!
Based on Masakazu Ishiguru’s manga series, Heavenly Delusion anime was expected to perform well. After all, the series already had millions of copies in circulation, and fans constantly demanded its anime adaptation.
While everything went smoothly for the first two episodes, Production I.G. studio dropped its first major plot twist in the third episode as it unveiled Kiruku’s dark secret. As a result, the anime suddenly became one of that season’s most trending anime series.
The series stayed true to its core idea that human decency is nothing but a heavenly delusion in a lawless world. But then, watching it from our world built on laws made the series all the more unsettling.
So, I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s no other way to deal with the series’ uneasy ideas but to have some ‘closure.’ That means we as fans are not just wishing for a second season, but we need it for our mental peace.
However, the finale of Heavenly Delusion’s first season didn’t carry any news for a renewal. So, let’s deal with the elephant in the room and discuss the possibility of another season!
Will There Be A Heavenly Delusion Season 2?
So far, Production I.G hasn’t officially greenlit Heavenly Delusion for season 2. But the decision to produce a sequel comes down to a series’ popularity, source material, and profit margin.
Though it’s only been a few weeks since Heavenly Delusion anime ended, the series has already earned top ratings on both MyAnimeList and IMDB. In fact, the anime has become one of the most iconic works of Production I.G. studio – second only to the Psycho-pass series.
Also, Heavenly Delusion anime ended on a cliffhanger, leaving us all wanting more!
In other words, the series is pretty popular among the masses. And so, it seems a sequel will be profitable for all parties involved, including fans!!
So, we expect that there’ll be a Heavenly Delusion season 2!
That said, Heavenly Delusion manga is still ongoing and currently contains around 55 chapters. But the anime has already covered more than two-thirds of these chapters. As a result, there isn’t enough manga material presently available to create another season worth 13 episodes.
And so, it’s a matter of when season 2 will come out and not if it will ever come out!
When Does Heavenly Delusion Season 2 Come Out?
As the second season of Heavenly Delusion anime isn’t officially confirmed, we don’t know for sure when the anime will come out.
As fans, we all want the anime to come out soon, but we cannot expect another season before 2024, maybe later, too.
The reason why I’ve mentioned next year isn’t just because Heavenly Delusion anime has just ended, and it usually takes at least 4-6 months before a sequel is released. Rather, there are multiple reasons for the delay.
One, because Production I.G Studio mainly focuses on film production while releasing only 1-2 anime each year. It has also begun contracting new series for the next year and has already scheduled Kaiju No. 8 anime for 2024.
Another reason for the delay is that the series currently contains 55 manga chapters, while the anime has already covered 37. So, at the moment, only about 18 manga chapters are available for further anime adaptation.
Since Heavenly Delusion manga is published on a monthly basis, the series will likely take at least one more year to accumulate enough source content to create another season.
If that happens, Heavenly Delusion season 2 may get delayed to 2025 or even further.
But all of this is a mere assumption, as season 2 isn’t yet confirmed. Also, we don’t know how many manga chapters will be needed for the second season as Production I.G studio may change the series’ pacing for the upcoming season.
So, we’ll have to wait for the anime’s official media team to reveal more details in this regard.
What to Expect From Heavenly Delusion Season 2?
So far, the first season of Heavenly Delusion anime has left us with a lot more questions than answers. It’s because we saw Tokio activating her weird powers for her kid’s safety, but we’re unsure if the baby in her hands was indeed hers.
After all, Sawatari seemed confused about the baby’s identity while returning it to Tokio.
Also, we did witness an explosion that led the children from Heaven to escape to the outside world. However, the children were supposed to reach the “outside of the outside world” as a test.
So, if the children from Heaven’s Nursery explored the world after the explosion, was it really an escape, or was it the test itself?
Finally, we saw one of the most disturbing scenes in anime’s history when Robin forced himself upon Kiruku while making it perfectly clear that he knew Kiruku had Haruki’s male brain, but it didn’t matter since he was now in Kiriko’s female body.
Later, Maru beating up Robin didn’t do much justice to this crime as Kiruku stopped him mid-way. So, the series finale hinted that Maru will return to take revenge on Robin.
Looking at all these loose ends, we can expect that Heavenly Delusion season 2 will pick the story from where the first season ended.
We can expect the second season of Heavenly Delusion anime to fill all the gaps left by the first season. It will likely unveil the link between Maru and Tokio as they share the same face. It’ll also feature Mimihime, Shiro, Anzu, and Taka exploring the outside of the outside world as they were previously seen heading toward a well-lit city on a speedboat.
Season 1 concluded with Kiruko finally accepting her female body, and she also experienced a few memories of her female self. Since Kiruko represents a gender-fluid role that conforms to the modern standards of gender, the next season may shed more light on how a male brain growing in a female body will respond once that brain accepts her feminine energy.
Heavenly Delusion Season 2 Cast & Crew Details
Since the second season of Heavenly Delusion isn’t yet greenlit, we cannot say for sure who will be returning for the future seasons. But we can expect studio Production I.G. to remain the main animation studio for the series.
If that happens, there’s no reason to replace the staff from the previous season.
And so, we can expect Hirotaka Mori to return as the director, with Makoto Fukami as the head scriptwriter. Meanwhile, Utsushita will likely reprise his role as the character designer, and Kensuke Ushio will return as the music composer.
We can also expect the voice cast from the first season to return. And so, we’ll see:
- Gen Satō as Maru
- Sayaka Senbongi as Kiruko
- Hibiku Yamamura as Tokio
- Toshiyuki Toyonaga as Kona
- Misato Fukuen as Mimihime
- Shunsuke Takeuchi as Shiro
- Yūki Shin as Taka
- Misato Matsuoka as Anzu
- Tadashi Mutou as Sawatari
- Kazuya Nakai as Robin Inazaki
Conclusion
Considering Heavenly Delusion anime’s success and hype, we’re sure there’ll also be a second season. But we cannot expect the anime until next year as there isn’t enough manga content currently available.
However, if you want to know what happens next, you can start reading from manga chapter 38, as season 1 covers up to chapter 37.
That said, there’s a lot that needs to be known about Heavenly Delusion season 2. So, I’ll make sure to update this article as soon as new information becomes available.
