Flying type Pokémon are some of the most common Pokémon that can be found in the show and games. Any Pokémon that can fly can be classified as a flying-type, so there are a ton of choices to choose from!
Even though this type of Pokémon are extremely common, they are still quite popular because any Pokémon that is able to execute flying-type moves automatically brings in a completely new way to fight in battles. Not only are their aerial attacks really powerful, but they are mostly dual-types so they complement their other type fairly well.
Since the flying Pokémon prefer areas in contact with or close to the air and wind, or even high altitudes, they are mostly birds and bugs, but there are also a few water and ice-types that can fly and also a few dragons too!
In this article, we are going to have a look at some of the most popular flying-type Pokémon introduced throughout the show and the games, and across multiple generations, and see just how versatile they can be against all kinds of opponents.

19. Pidgeot
Pidgeot is a dual-type Flying/Normal Pokémon. It was introduced in Generation I. It evolves from Pidgeotto at level 36 and is the final form of Pidgey. It can also Mega Evolve using Pidgeotite!
Pidgeot is an avian Pokémon and it has shiny feathers, sharp talons and a short beak. This normal-type Pokémon has very large wings and orange feathery tails. It has a purple short beak, the same color as its feet. On its head, it has three strands of colorful feathers. Its wings are strong enough to bring up a storm which it deploys in battle, and it is incredibly fast in flight.

18. Togekiss
Togekiss is a dual-type Flying/Fairy Pokémon that was introduced in Generation IV. It evolves from Togetic when exposed to a Shiny Stone and is the final form of Togepi.
Togekiss is a small, cute bird with tiny eyes. It has very large wings and a white body. On its head, there are two spikes on either side that look like horns. These very rare Pokémon have spikes at the back of their head and possess wings and feathers for flying. These fairy-type Pokémon are very calm and non-violent and are known to bring blessings upon all who they encounter.

17. Hawlucha
Hawlucha is a dual-type Flying/Fighting Pokémon that was first introduced in Generation VI. It is not known to evolve to or from any other Pokémon.
Hawlucha is a colorful bird-like Pokémon. From its mask-like face, its yellow eyes are visible. It has red arms, yellow claws and large blue wings. Although it is small, it is extremely skillful in fighting larger creatures. With its wings, this fighting-type Pokémon attacks enemies from above and is often victorious because of this tactic.

16. Staraptor
This is a dual Normal/Flying type Pokémon that was introduced in Generation IV. It evolves from Staravia at level 34 and is the final form of Starly.
It’s a grey large bird with orange feet. It has red eyes and a long yellow beak. On its head, there is a black and red long feather in the shape of an ax. It is so long that it almost reaches the tip of its beak. It is a very relentless and angry bird that attacks opponents with its large wings and strong longs. It doesn’t care whether it has been injured, it will fight till its last breath.

15. Gliscor
Gliscor is a dual-type Flying/Ground Pokémon. It was introduced in Generation IV. It evolves from Gligar when it levels up holding Razor Fang at night.
Gliscor is a bat-like Pokémon with fangs like a vampire, claws resembling that of a crab, and a scorpion-like tail. It has the power to see through barriers using sound waves, and avoid these barriers. This ground-type Pokémon is nocturnal and relies on the wind to carry him. In the absence of this, it would move about using its claws; jumping from one tree to the other.

14. Honchkrow
Honchkrow is a dual-type Flying/Dark Pokémon. It was introduced in Generation IV and it evolves from Murkrow when exposed to a Dusk Stone.
Honchkrow is an avian Pokémon who wears a classic tuxedo and a hat to match. In reality, the “hat” on its head is a feather that is shaped like a hat. The rest of its body is just blue wings and a red fluffy, feathery tail. This Pokémon is a pack animal that fights with its venom and it can call others of its kind with a primal scream it lets out.

13. Altaria
Altaria is a dual-type Flying/Dragon Pokémon. It was introduced in Generation III and it evolves from Swablu at level 35. It can also Mega Evolve using Altarianite!
It’s a bluebird that has white clouds as wings. When it flies, it looks like it carries the clouds with it. It has a short white beak and small dark eyes. Its tail is composed of five feathers and on its head are two blue antennae-like feathers. This Pokémon is very graceful and calm. It doesn’t often engage in conflict but when it does, it can obliterate its enemies. It is often seen singing in the sky in a melodious voice that captures the attention of its listeners.

12. Gyarados
Gyarados is a dual-type Flying/Water Pokémon that was introduced in Generation I. It evolves from Magikarp at level 20 and it can also Mega Evolve using Gyaradosite!
Gyarados looks like a snake with a dragon face and fishtail. It also has fins on each side of its face and four others on its upper body and tail. It has two strands of mustache hanging from its chin and is an extremely violent creature. This water-type Pokémon uses its teeth and hard body as a weapon for destruction and is a competent jumper.

11. Noivern
Noivern is a dual Dragon/Flying type Pokémon. It was introduced in Generation VI and it evolves from Noibat at level 48.
Noivern is black and purple with bat-like wings. On each wing, it has two spikes that shoot upwards. Under its wings, it has three red fingers. It is disproportionately built and has yellow eyes on top of its head, and two big ears with hypnosis rings inside them. With its ears, Noivern can emit waves that can annihilate everything within reach, and it also relies on sound waves to navigate during flight.

10. Salamence
Salamence is a dual-type Dragon/Flying Pokémon that was introduced in Generation III. It evolves from Shelgon at level 50 and is the final form of Bagon. It can also Mega Evolve using Salamencite!
Salamence is a quadrupedal Pokémon that has a long tail, blue body and an airplane-shaped ear. It has two sharp teeth that come out from its upper and lower mouth. It has sharp claws on its arms and gets excited in flight. It has a wicked temper and will destroy everything in sight while angry. In its Mega form, it can use its wings as a weapon because of how sharp and hard they are.

9. Talonflame
TaIonflame is a dual-type Flying/Fire Pokémon. It was introduced in Generation VI. It evolves from Fletchinder at level 35 and is the final form of Fletchling.
Talonflame is a falcon-like Pokémon that is covered in red colors that fade into a flaming pattern on its body. The tips of its wings are black and its tail has yellow and black chevron-like patterns. Like its tail, its talons are yellow and full of power. It uses them to trap its victims until they become too weak to escape. Talonflame is lightning fast in attack and can take its enemies by surprise.

8. Tornadus, Thundurus & Landorus
Asides from their well known name Forces of Nature, these three are also known as Kami trio, Cloud trio as well as Legendary Genies.
Tornadus, Thundurus and Landorus all look like genies with their tail forming a long branch that curves until the front of their body. They appear to be floating in the air with a cloud on their lower body where their legs should have been. With the help of a Reveal Glass, they each can transforme into their Therian Forme. They are dedicated to making plants grow and healing islands. They can use their arms like a hammer and cause earthquakes and thunder.

7. Articuno, Moltres & Zapdos
Moltres, Articuno and Zapdos are all dual types of Fire, Ice and Electric power respectively and Flying type Pokémon. They are not known to evolve and these birds are the Legendary Birds of Kanto!
Articuno is colored light-blue ice-type Pokémon and carries a divine flair. On its tail, there’s a nice flourish of feathers and a nice three-pronged rhombus on its head. Zapdos is an electric-type Pokémon with a combination of yellow and black colors. It’s a fierce looking avian with powerful, sharp talons and yellow eyes. Moltres looks like the first two, except for the red hot flames which seem to emanate from its being. In attack, they wield and often combine fire, electric and ice powers to devastating effect.

6. Charizard
Charizard is a dual Fire/Flying type Pokémon that was introduced in Generation I. It evolves from Charmeleon at level 36 and is the final form of Charmander. Unlike most, Charizard can Mega Evolve into 2 different forms and also has a Gigantamax form.
Charizard is two-legged and colored orange in parts. This powerful fire-type Pokémon also has an elongated neck and tiny, beady eyes. Behind its rectangular head, there are two protrusions that look like horns. It is also disproportionately formed with the bulk of its flesh located in its belly. Charizard wields the power of its fiery breath that can melt the sturdiest objects.

5. Dragonite
Dragonite, which was introduced in Generation I, is a dual-type Dragon/Flying Pokémon. It evolves from Dragonair at level 55 and is the final form of Dratini.
Dragonite is a two-legged Pokémon that has massive eyes embedded in a rounded facial structure that includes a snout and horns. The lightning-fast Pokémon also has thick arms and a tapering tail. It can move at speeds that defy sound and is said to be kind-hearted and intelligent. Although this pseudo-legendary Pokémon is benevolent, it can unleash hellish feats of violence if it feels that its environment is under threat.

4. Lugia
Lugia is a dual-type Flying/Psychic Pokémon. It was introduced in Generation II and it does not evolve into any other Pokémon.
Lugia is a dragon-like psychic Pokémon that is colored blue in multiple shades. It has a ridged beak-like mouth and pointed teeth. Due to its environment, it is perfectly streamlined for aerial movement. To increase its speed, Lugia can flatten the plates on its back. It is ruthlessly protective of its young and can create massive storms in attack. To prevent ceaseless destruction, it will lodge itself underwater for extended periods.

3. Yveltal
Yveltal is a dual Dark/Flying type Pokémon that was first introduced in Generation VI. It does not evolve to or from any other Pokémon.
Yveltal is an avian Pokémon with draconic traits. It is primarily red with black claws and grey talons. Its wings and tails appear to have five sharp claws. It also has lines that look like veins, running from its chest to its wings and tail. Using its wings and tail, this dark-type Pokémon can absorb energy from anything around it and then turn itself into a cocoon. To know when it is absorbing the life of things, it would normally turn very bright red.

2. Ho-Oh
Ho-Oh is a dual Fire/Flying type Pokémon. It was introduced in Generation II and is not known to evolve. Ho-Oh is a legendary Pokémon that is the Trio Master of the Legendary Beasts!
Ho-Oh is a colorful firebird Pokémon that has the likeness of a peacock and is beautifully patterned with yellow, white and green. This Pokémon is the epitome of beauty and has wings that leave a streak of rainbow colors when it flies. Unlike many others, Ho-Oh is extremely powerful and can raise the dead. If a trainer respects others, loves all living things, and finds beauty in everything, Ho-Oh is bound to appear in front of him.

1. Rayquaza
Rayquaza is a dual Dragon/Flying-type Pokémon. It was introduced in Generation III. Although Rayquaza is not known to evolve, it can Mega Evolve if it knows Dragon Ascent. It is also one of the Super-ancient Pokémon!
Rayquaza is a missile-like, green Pokémon and is endowed with horns, protrusions and two tapering fins. Also, it has a ridged brow above small eyes, and its head flares out at the back like that of Charizard. It has a row of four short red ovals on its belly and a fifth on its neck. When this dragon-type Pokémon undergo mega-evolution, it transforms physically and gains more features.
