Mikasa Ackerman is perhaps one of the most interesting characters in the story of Attack on Titan right from the moment we get introduced to her. Mikasa’s calm and beautiful appearance, coupled with her outstanding combat skills, allowed her to gain a high level of respect among her peers and seniors in the Survey Corps.
Besides her unparalleled abilities as a human, one of the most defining characteristics she has as a character is the amount of devotion, respect, and admiration she has towards Eren. Having been acquainted and rescued by him as a child, Mikasa quickly developed deep feelings towards him and the scarf he gifted her at the time.
It cannot be said enough about the lengths Mikasa is willing to go to just to protect Eren. Her admiration isn’t limited to this, as Mikasa is frequently prone to violent and rash tendencies toward anything that would threaten Eren’s safety.
All of these combined make for a strong point that the two would eventually end up together by the end of the series. So, does that really happen? Let’s find out!
Do Eren and Mikasa Get Together?
To immediately answer the question of whether or not Mikasa and Eren end up together, the immediate answer would be “No.”
Both Eren and Mikasa, despite their feelings for one another, never end up marrying one another, let alone officially enter a relationship beyond the close friendship they share.
This is because, as revealed in the manga as well as the series’ ending, Eren ends up dying at the end, and that too at the hands of Mikasa herself.
For the greater good and safety of the world, Mikasa made the difficult decision of letting go of the person she loved the most and struck Eren down in the final battle to stop the Rumbling.
With Eren getting killed and the world saved in the process, it was impossible for Mikasa and Eren to end up together, let alone get married.
Events before the start of the Rumbling didn’t help to improve the two’s relationship as Eren decided to take a different path from his friends and chose to annihilate everyone beyond the walls.
Do Mikasa and Eren Kiss?
Despite not officially ending up with one another at the end of the series, Eren and Mikasa were still able to share tender moments.
One such occasion was when Mikasa presumed Eren was dead after a Titan ate him at the beginning of the series. But she discovered him emerging from the body of the Attack Titan he transformed into, and she felt relief. That wasn’t the only moment because we’ve seen time and again how Eren and Mikasa risk their own lives if the other’s life is in danger.
Amid all these moments, you might have a question of whether, in between all the Titan battles and the fighting that the story has to offer were, the two of them able to share a kiss.
The quick answer to this question is a yes, but it comes with a long story.
As mentioned earlier, Mikasa was responsible for killing Eren and saving the world from the Rumbling. Eren died with his head sliced off by Mikasa after she used the opportunity her allies gave her to enter his Titan’s mouth.
It was immediately after Mikasa decapitated Eren’s head that the two shared their first and only kiss as she bid him farewell while picking up his head.
Who Does Mikasa End Up With in Attack on Titan?
One of the biggest questions that many manga readers have at the end of the series is who Mikasa eventually marries and ends up with.
We see that towards the end of the manga, Mikasa is seen accompanied by another man and a child as she visits Eren’s grave. However, the man’s face is obscured from the fans, so we don’t know his identity.
But based on the man’s silhouette, it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that the man was Jean Kirstein. It isn’t far-fetched to assume that based on what we’ve seen throughout the story!
Jean seems to be the most likely to end up with Mikasa because he’s shown to have feelings for her for a long time. And given the tall stature and long hair of the man in the manga panel, it makes total sense for Mikasa to have ended up with Jean at the end of the series.
Are Mikasa and Jean Married?
As mentioned earlier, there is no confirming evidence that would show that Jean and Mikasa actually end up marrying one another at the end of the series. The man she was with during her visits to Eren’s grave matches the characteristics of Jean, which makes him the most reasonable character to think of.
Jean himself also shares an attraction towards Mikasa despite Mikasa showing no signs of returning this in the entire story. Nevertheless, Mikasa holds a level of respect towards him, which might’ve changed her opinion of him over time.
This outcome was also alluded to in a dream that Jean had in the series, where we see him living a normal life, opposite to the current one. In this dream, we see him being married to a woman similar to Mikasa in appearance while also having a child. This could’ve been some form of foreshadowing that can support the idea of Mikasa and Jean getting married at the end.
Regardless of who Mikasa ends up with in Attack on Titan, it can’t be argued just how close her relationship with Eren was and how deep her affection was for him. Despite Eren’s attempts to push everyone away, including Mikasa, she still held him close to her heart as she continued to feel conflicted about trying to kill him or find a way to save him.
This is further shown when Eren confirms his own feelings towards Mikasa, which she remembered after killing him and served as the catalyst that led to the disappearance of Titans from the world and for Ymir to finally be laid to rest after getting tormented with her own feelings of love.
