Dojutsu or ocular powers vary from person to person, depending upon certain things. Some users have been bestowed with these powers in their genes, which they awaken later based on particular conditions. Like we have seen many from the Uchiha clan awakening their Sharingan and then Mangekyo Sharingan based on their life experiences and maturity.
The ocular powers can also be given or transferred to another person deliberately. Kakashi, Pain, and Danzo have acquired them by transplanting the eyes to themselves.
Talking about the most powerful Dojutsu, we have quite a number of them, each with distinctive abilities. These powers enhance one’s skills overall and make one superior to those who lack Dojutsu for many reasons.
In Naruto, the most popular Dojutsu users are the Uchihas. I’ll list and rank all the eye techniques from Naruto and Boruto based on their specialties and powers. So, let’s begin!
Most Powerful Dojutsu in Naruto Series (2022)
13. Shion’s Dojutsu
Shion debuted in the movie titled Naruto Shippuden the Movie. Her Dojutsu is unique compared to others on the list as it enables her to see the future. Her future is not target-specific; it shows her chunks of upcoming events which may or may not involve her and some strangers. It’s believed to be very accurate, and because of her future seeing ability, people used to avoid her.
In the movie, she saw the vision of Naruto’s death by the main antagonist of the movie, a demon named Moryo. However, this was her only vision that proved to be wrong. In fact, the future can change if one tries to alter it.
12. Yome’s Dojutsu
Yome debuted in the filler episode 395 of Naruto Shippuden. She has a tracking power somewhat like Neji’s Byakugan. The power of her Dojutsu is best suitable for tracking the enemy even if they are multiple kilometers away.
She can easily trace them with the help of water droplets in the environment by seeing the enemy’s reflection in them. Though it’s a great ability, one can’t rely on it entirely since it depends upon natural factors.
Water droplets and humidity depend on the amount of sunlight, so Yome’s Dojutsu doesn’t work all the time perfectly. Once all the droplets evaporate, her Dojutsu starts becoming weak. Besides, if there is a blinding light, it would also complicate the use of her ocular powers.
11. Ranmaru’s Kekkei Genkai
Kekkei Genkai is genetic and is transferred from one generation to the other. Not everyone can acquire a Kekkei Genkai, and each one is different. For example, Deidara’s explosives release, Hashiama’s wood release, Kimimaro’s Shikotsumyaku, etc., are Kekkei Genkai.
One thing important to note is, though, it’s hereditary, but Hashirama was an exception. His Kekkai Genkai wasn’t passed to him by his ancestor. Instead, he was the first one to develop his wood release.
As I said, all of them are unique, so the same goes for Ranmaru. The said ability of his gave him extraordinary visionary and hearing abilities. No matter the distance, or the obstacle, he can hear and see through the long distances.
There is hardly any difference between Ranmaru’s Dojutsu and a Byakugan as it can also sense chakra. So, it’s overall an excellent ability for tracking the enemy. The tracking and chakra sensing abilities enable the user to cast a Genjutsu on the opponent.
One of the best abilities of Ranmaru is that he can bring back someone near to death by giving his life to him. Do you remember the similar ability of Granny Chiyo when she saved Gara’s life by bringing him back to life? Somewhat the same is the case with Ranmaru.
Almost all Dojutsu users are detail-oriented, and their analytical abilities are phenomenal, so the same goes for him. He has enhanced skills mainly because of his Dojutsu.
10. Ketsuryugan
Ketsuryugan is another great ocular ability that makes the user superior and exceptional among many great shinobis. One can guess if a person has Ketsuryugan by looking at the blood-red eyes.
Though Sharingan users also have red eyes, it is darker and has a “minus” sign in the pupil. Well, if one looks directly in the eye, one would voluntarily become a victim of Genjutsu.
This Dojutsu user can trap the opponent in the Genjutsu if they make eye contact or touch them. It was first seen in Chino, a member of the Chinoike Clan. Chino is considered a strong one because she fought against Sasuke, when he had both EMS and Rinnegan, and gave him some tough time.
Chino is a formidable opponent because of her iron manipulating ability. It’s not a good practice to fight against her in close combat because she can easily control the liquid iron levels in the blood.
9. Byakugan
If you have been a fan of the Naruto series, then this Dojutsu needs no introduction. Byakugan is one of the most famous Naruto eye techniques in the entire series, and it is mainly used by the Hyuga clan.
It is precious, and one can guess its significance from “The Last: Naruto the Movie.” In this movie, Toneri was after Hinata for the Byakugan. Not just Toneri, many characters like Danzo have been after these eyes for their remarkability.
Byakugan users can see through objects and can find the chakra points of others. These eyes can see the chakra flow faultlessly. It is one of the reasons these eyes are considered lethal because they do so better than the Sharingan. The user can disrupt the chakra’s flow or block it completely. We can see Neji doing it with Hinata and Naruto at the beginning of the series and later with many of his opponents. Many jutsus, like Amaterasu, can be countered with Byakugan which Kaguya demonstrated flawlessly.
8. Jōgan
Jōgan is believed to be very powerful, and it has been declared a very troublesome technique by the Otsutsuki clan itself. Boruto is the one who has awakened this eye, and you won’t find anyone with this eye in the entire Naruto series. It is speculated that the ocular prowess belongs to the Otsutsuki clan only, or it can also be acquired by someone with a connection to one of the Otsutsuki, like Boruto.
Jōgan can detect invisible dimensional barriers, thus giving the user the ability to travel between dimensions. It can see the flow of chakra allowing its user to see the changes in chakra and even track someone through their chakra. Plus, it’s capable of seeing the entire chakra pathway system of a person and even the Tenketsu.
Since Boruto is still developing, we hope we’ll get to see Jougan in its ultimate best. Its true powers are yet to be known.
7. Sharingan
Sharingan is a Kekkei Genkai that we all know is found in the Uchiha Clan. It’s one of the strongest Dojutsu that has different forms. Sharingan is the basic form and can be advanced to Mangekyo Sharingan and Eternal Mangekyo depending upon certain conditions.
It requires specific experiences and emotional conditions to activate the Sharingan and its other forms. Sharingan can copy any technique, and we have seen the “Copy Ninja” Kakashi doing it multiple times.
The basic Sharingan user can see the detailed chakra flow, second to Byakugan. This Dojutsu can precisely replicate and deduce the nin and Taijutsu by just seeing them once. I hope we have been familiar with this as we have witnessed Sasuke copying Lee’s Taijutsu during the Chunin exams.
But there is one drawback to every Sharingan user, the use of Sharingan requires a considerable amount of chakra and stamina. The excessive use of these would eventually cause blindness.
6. Isshiki’s Dojutsu
This isn’t one of the Naruto eye techniques we have seen in the original series, but it is one technique that was introduced in the Boruto series. The user of this eye can use Sukunahikona, the power to shrink themselves and any object in their sight. They can even cover their tracks by throwing the shrunken object or themselves into another dimension. Thus, tailing is very hard for anyone, regardless of skill level.
We have seen Isshiki Otsutsuki summoning the high-speed chakra rods from another direction and stopping Naruto’s movement. After Isshiki, Kawaki uses this ocular power.
5. Mangekyo Sharingan
Let’s move to the next level of Sharingan, the Mangekyo Sharingan, which is one of the most powerful Dojutsu in the entire Narutoverse!
For the Mangekyo Sharingan to be awakened, the user must go through a tragic or saddest incident, i.e., experiencing the death of someone closer to them. We all have been familiar with the sacrifice and pain everyone’s favorite Itachi Uchiha have been through. The same goes for Madara, Sasuke, and Obito!
The users of this Dojutsu are extremely powerful and has advanced eye powers. Their Genjutsu is the strongest, and it’s very difficult for one to release themselves from the trap. All the capabilities of the Mangekyo user vary; they are not the same for everyone. For example, for Obito, it was Kamui, and for Itachi, it was Amaterasu. If the user simultaneously awakens Mangekyo in both eyes, they can create a Susanoo, which is supposed to be the strongest defensive and offensive S-rank technique of these eyes.
4. Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan
Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, or EMS for short, is an advanced level of the Mangekyo Sharingan. It can’t be developed; it can be obtained only when a Mangekyo Sharingan of an Uchiha with strong blood ties, ideally a sibling, is transplanted.
Sasuke got his Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan after Itachi’s eyes were transplanted into him, and Madara got his EMS in the same fashion when his brother, Izuna’s, eyes were transplanted into him.
The excessive use of Mangekyo Sharingan has diverse effects on the user’s body. But the Eternal Mangekyo user can use it limitlessly without straining their bodies. Only a few known Shinobi have this ocular power (Sasuke Uchiha & Madara Uchiha). An exceptional, yet temporary, case was with Kakashi when Obito gave him his eyes!
3. Tenseigan
Tenseigan is somewhat similar to Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan in terms of its existence. Like how an Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan comes into being after transplanting another’s eyes, Tensigan also appears when one gets a Byakugan transplant. A few conditions must be met though for the Tenseigan to exist and develop in an individual.
Suppose a person is from the Otsutsuki clan, and they replace their eyes with a Hyuga’s Byakugan. In that case, the Byakugan will leave its original white color and develop into a light blue sparkling eye, namely the Tenseigan. We only see Toneri using a Tenseigan in “The Last: Naruto the Movie.” In terms of powers, it shows a resemblance to Rinnegan. Its user is granted the ability to push and pull objects like one of Rinnegan’s powers.
The specially developed ocular Dojutsu allows the user to enter a chakra mode. The user’s body is enveloped in a sparkling whitish-blue chakra. Again it is somewhat closer to the Sage of Six Paths’ power as one gets access to truth-seeking orbs and the ability to fly. There are no other known users of Tenseigan except Toneri.
2. Rinnegan
Rinnegan is one of the strongest Dojutsu in the Naruto universe. It is unique as it cannot be awakened through normal means. However, if one combines the chakra of the two most powerful shinobi bloodlines, like Indra’s and Asura’s, a Rinnegan comes into existence. For example, Madara Uchiha had no chance of transforming his Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan into Rinnegan since he did not have Asura’s bloodline.
His intellect made him take in the cells of Hashirama, a descendant of Asura, resulting in a somewhat original bloodline of Hogoromo and thus awakening his Rinnegan. After Hogoromo, the Sage of Six Paths, Madara was the first person to awaken the Rinnegan; Nagato and Obito only got it transplanted.
Rinnegan allows its user the authority to wield god-like powers, among which Rinne Rebirth and Almighty Push top the charts. Don’t forget that this eye is the only means of summoning the Ten-Tails statue. Making restraining chakra rods and restraining chakra chains are also its abilities, but their access varies from user to user. In Nagato’s case, he could easily use all six paths, including his 7th outer path.
However, against Obito, Madara, Sasuke and Hogoromo, Nagato is still considered the weakest of all users of Rinnegan. Unlike the original users, it took Nagato and Obito a massive amount of chakra to use Rinnegan to its full potential.
1. Rinne Sharingan
After talking about all the Naruto eye techniques we have seen, it is not time to talk about probably the most powerful Dojutsu in Narutoverse, the Rinne Sharingan!
These eyes have nine tomoe, unlike a basic Sharingan’s three. These Tomoe are placed on the rings of a Rinnegan, hence making it a Rinne Sharingan. In Naruto, there are three users of Rinne Sharingan with a red base, including Kaguya, Madara, and the Ten-Tails.
However, Sasuke’s Rinne Sharingan is considered an exception as its base color is grey. The divine eyes with limitless powers enable its user to wield enormous otherworldly powers, including all of Rinnegan’s basic abilities and a Sharingan’s Genjutsu, only heightened. Rinne Sharingan allows its user to easily move past other dimensions that require an enormous chakra to open.
It is the only eye known for casting the Eternal Tsukiyomi. In that regard, Sasuke’s Rinne Sharingan isn’t capable of doing so. Instead, it can release the Eternal Tsukiyomi with other conditions fulfilled. Thus it can be said that it isn’t a Rinne Sharingan but a Rinnegan with added tomoe. Still, whatever the case is, Sasuke’s eyes are one of the strongest after Kaguya and Madara.
What Are the Strongest Naruto Eye Techniques?
With this, we have reached the end of our topic today. I have featured almost all of the Dojutsu users known in the Narutoverse. Naruto fans all over the globe are busy with this ongoing debate about the strongest Dojutsu. However, given the circumstances in Boruto, the ocular powers shown are still developing with no level of power limit hinted at.
Additionally, the eye techniques in the current series are not the main focus like they were in Naruto, so it is safe to say that Naruto series still has the strongest ocular jutsus.
Anyways, I am super excited to know which Dojutsu you like the most and why. Get down to the comment section and share your otaku moments with me. Let me know which of these do you think is the most powerful Dojutsu ever!
