After the first season’s sensational finale, we’re all excited to see how The God of High School season 2 will turn out. But when to expect the second season? If you’re here to find that out, keep reading as in this article, we’ll discuss everything we know about the second season of The God of High School, like its release date, plot, expectations, cast & crew details!
Authored by Korean artist Yongje Park, the manhwa series “The God of High School” remained limited to Korean audiences until 2014, when Line Webtoon started publishing it in English translations. This caused the series to become insanely popular and spread like wildfire across the world.
This skyrocketing fame can be attributed to the series’ action and martial arts tropes. But it’s also because The God of High School features a balanced plot containing supernatural elements heavily nuanced with comedic relief and coming-of-age tropes.
In that sense, it’s not surprising that several Japanese studios considered the series for an anime adaptation despite its Korean origins.
But such cross-culture collaborations take a lot of time. That’s why The God of High School anime wasn’t announced until several other Korean webtoons also entered the scene, including Tower of God, Noblesse, Solo Leveling, and Lookism.
That said, The God of High School anime still stood out as it was a product of the two most prestigious animation studios, i.e., MAPPA Studio and Sola Entertainment. However, as the anime’s first season concluded, it left several loose ends but no hint of renewal.
While fans assumed that a season 2 would be soon announced, it’s been almost 3 years since then, and there is no update. And so, netizens have been consistently asking if The God of High School season 2 is canceled.
So, in this article, we will take a closer look to see if there will be a season 2 of The God of High School or not, and everything else we know so far about the anime.
The God of High School Season 2 Release Date Predictions
So far, there’re no official release dates for The God of High School season 2 because it isn’t renewed yet. As fans, we all have our fingers crossed for the anime to come out soon, but I don’t think that would be possible.
The reason why I’ve mentioned this delay is that MAPPA studio seems to have a jam-packed schedule. The studio has already released Vinland Saga season 2, Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill, Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 3, and A Girl meets A Boy and A Robot this year.
And it is also working on Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku and has Jujutsu Kaisen: Season 2 as well as Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence, Alice and Therese’s Illusion Factory, and Zombie Land Saga Movie scheduled for the latter half of 2023.
Another reason I think it will take some time for the next season of The God of High School anime to be announced is that some fans, particularly those who have read the manhwa, weren’t happy with the way season 1 concluded.
The ending took the story in a different direction, although I don’t think it would matter in the long term if the anime were long enough to flesh out the events a bit more. The story of The God of High School can get pretty complicated at times because there are so many characters in the story, so just one season isn’t enough to get otakus to become long-time fans of the series.
However, I still think the first season was moderately successful and loved by those unfamiliar with the source material, so having another season wouldn’t hurt anyone. It would only make the series more popular!
The God of High School Season 2 Plot & Expectations
The series begins when a South Korean teenager named Mori Jin enters “The God of High School,” a shady martial arts contest that promises to grant its winner one wish with no questions asked.
While the contest is organized to select three candidates to represent South Korea in the World Martial Arts Tournament, winning requires more than martial arts. It’s because most contestants combine martial arts with ‘Borrowed Power,’ which is a mystical energy achieved by making a contract with supernatural beings like gods, demons, and mythical creatures.
But Mori Jun becomes kinda unbeatable as he forms a team with two martial arts prodigies, i.e., Mira Yoo and Daewi Han.
In the finale of The God of High School season 1, Mori Jin remembers bits of his lost identity as the “Monkey King,” aka the great god “Sun Wukong.” And so, he summons his ‘Ruyi Jingu’ staff and fights Taek. Meanwhile, his friends Mira and Daewi support him.
On winning, Mori sacrifices his wish to find his grandfather and uses it to heal Ilpyo Park’s friends. But Mori’s wounds cause him to fall into a coma. As he wakes up 3 months later, Mira and Daewi tell him that he must travel to the Monkey King’s Origin for him to recover his memories.
And so, we can expect The God of High School season 2 to pick the story from where the first season ended. If that happens, the anime will feature “Jin Taejin Arc,” which shows the backstory of Mori’s grandfather.
We can also anticipate Mori Jin to explore how he transitioned from the Monkey King into a human. Also, he may reunite with his grandfather, Jin Taejin, who was revealed to be still alive.
It appears Mira and Daewii will also follow him along his journey. While Daewii has made it his mission to help Mira and Mori fulfill their dreams, Mira is yet to find some clarity as she has just let go of her family burden and hasn’t decided where she wants to head next.
However, we can only speculate the plot for season 2 because the final episodes of season 1 were very different than what happened in the webtoon. So, we don’t know if the anime adaptation will somehow return to show the webtoon’s story or if we’ll see something different in season 2.
Conclusion
Though The God of High School is based on a Korean webtoon, it has a considerable fanbase. Also, enough material is available to create another season, so we can expect that MAPPA will soon renew the series for a second season.
I hope this article helped you find everything you wanted to know about The God of High School season 2. I’ll make sure to update the article as soon as new information becomes available.
