Re:ZERO season 3 has been officially announced, and it won’t be long before we feast our eyes with our favorite characters back in action. In this article, we’ll discuss everything we know about Re:ZERO – Starting Life in Another World season 3!
Debuting as a 2012 web novel, Tappei Nagatsuki’s “Re:Zero” began like a typical isekai where a NEET enters another world and causes several women to follow him around.
But the series’ glittering tone suddenly switched into a dark fantasy theme when Subaru, the main protagonist, didn’t actually fit in his new role. Instead, he failed miserably, and his every mistake was brutally punished. Also, most female characters were introduced as platonic friends and had little to do with romance or fanservice. So, the series’ so-called ‘harem tropes’ were a facade.
Thus, Re:ZERO broke several isekai stereotypes and as expected, grabbed immense recognition for its unique blend of adventure, dark fantasy, and time travel.
By 2014, Daichi Matsue and Makoto Fūgetsu were serializing Re:ZERO’s manga in two different seinen magazines. At the same time, Media Factory had already published several chapters in compiled light novel covers.
So, the fans were pretty much expecting an anime adaptation when White Fox studio picked the series. As a result, when Re:ZERO season 1 aired in 2016, it topped all popularity charts by scoring a staggering 8.24/10 on MyAnimeList. This earned the anime series numerous awards, including the “Newtype Anime Awards” in 2016 and the “Anime of the Year” in 2017.
But the season 2 finale showed no signs of season 3 production. This caused netizens to sift through the internet searching – will there be a season 3 for Re:ZERO? Thankfully we now have good news for the series renewal.
Is Re:ZERO Season 3 Renewed or Cancelled?
Yes, the third season of Re:ZERO is officially renewed, but the production crew has yet to announce its release date. As fans, we have our fingers crossed for a release within this year or at least early next year.
The announcement of a third season came during AnimeJapan 2023 stage event held on March 25th, 2023. A key visual and trailer were also released in the presence of previous cast members.
So, we can expect the same cast and crew members from the previous season to reprise their roles for Re:ZERO – Starting Life in Another World season 3.
That said, Re:ZERO is currently one of the most famous light novel series, with over 13 million copies in circulation. Also, the series has sold more than 70,000 DVD boxes for home videos.
So, it wasn’t a surprise that the anime adaptation got renewed for a third season; it’s just a surprise that it took so long for the showrunners to announce and start working on a third season. I am sure this upcoming season will be as good as the previous ones!
Is There a Trailer for Re:ZERO Season 3?
Although there isn’t a full-length trailer yet, the showrunners did release a teaser trailer for the upcoming season along with the season 3 announcement. You can watch the teaser below:
Re:ZERO Season 3 Release Date Predictions
Re:ZERO season 3 is confirmed to be in production, but there is no official release date. As fans, we all hope for the anime to come out this year, but I think the series will get delayed until the first half of next year.
My predictions come from Kadokawa announcing Re: ZERO’s first season in July 2015. But the series premiered about nine months later, in April 2016. Similarly, Re:ZERO season 2 was greenlit in March 2019. But it didn’t start airing until about 15 months later, in July 2020.
That said, White Fox Studio’s current schedule is not as jam-packed. So, there is always hope for early release, i.e., at the beginning of 2024.
Regardless, what matters is that we are sure that there is Re:ZERO – Starting Life in Another World season 3 on the horizon.
As you are curious about the third season, I assume you’ve already watched the previous two seasons. But it’s been a long time. So, I’ll give you a quick recap of the storyline and what to expect from season 3 of Re:ZERO.
Re:ZERO Plot & Season 3 Expectations
Re:ZERO – Starting Life in Another World aka “Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu” begins when a NEET named Subaru Natsuki steps out of a convenience store and lands in a fantasy world.
Bewildered, Subaru tries to make sense of his transition but gets suddenly attacked by a band of thugs, only to be saved by an Elfish beauty. To show his gratitude, Subaru decides to help her find her lost insignia. They do find some clues but end up getting mysteriously murdered in the process.
At this moment, Subaru jolts awake at a familiar sight. As he tries to make sense of what just happened, he gets attacked by the same band of thugs, and the same girl comes to rescue him.
However, she has no recollection of ever meeting Subaru before.
As the plot unravels, Subaru realizes that his death resets everything, with only him having the memories from his past self. And so begins a journey where Subaru has to live through painful deaths to keep everyone safe.
In Re:ZERO season 2 finale, Subaru contracts Beatrice to beat the Great Rabbit Mabeast. Meanwhile, Roswaal is apprehended for all his crimes, and Emilia gets him to apologize to everyone. But Roswaal confides his plans to revive Echidna to Subaru.
Later, Emilia bestows Subaru with Knighthood, and they reaffirm their trust in each other.
From the trailer, it seems Re:ZERO season 3 will pick from light novel volume 16 with the fifth arc of the series titled “Stars that Engrave History.” This arc is about Emilia and her friends visiting Watergate City to meet Anastasia but getting stranded there because of an attack from the Witch Cult.
We can also expect that Subaru will learn the mysterious reason for being chosen for “Return after Death.” Also, Emilia will face the challenges of becoming the ruler. There is also hope for the two protagonists to grow further close.
How Many Episodes will be in Re:ZERO Season 3?
Both season 1 and season 2 consisted of 25 episodes adapted from light novel volumes 1-15. Season 2 finale covered up to the 4th major arc of the series titled, “The Everlasting Contract.”
By extension, Re: ZERO’s third season will likely consist of 25 episodes, starting from light novel volume 16. The season will cover the 5th & 6th arcs, i.e., “Stars that Engrave History” and “The Corridor of Memories.”
But the light novel series is ongoing, and there is also a 7th arc. So, we can also hope for future animation projects, i.e., a season 4 Re:ZERO.
Re:ZERO season 3 has been officially greenlit. The series trailer promises an action-packed season with great visuals. The series will be adapting the 5th and 6th arcs of the series.
While there is no confirmed release date yet, the good news is that Re:ZERO – Starting Life in Another World is now in production, and we can look forward to the anime within a year.
I hope this article answered all your queries regarding Re:ZERO season 3. I will ensure this article is updated with new details as soon as more information about the upcoming season is released.
