MAPPA has officially announced Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku season 2, so it won’t be long before we get to see our favorite characters back in action. But when to expect the second season? If you’re here looking that up, keep reading as we talk about everything we know about Hell’s Paradise season 2 so far!!
Though Yuji Kaku’s dark-fantasy manga Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku debuted in January 2018, its manga panels dribbling with horror and psychological thriller garnered millions of fans within months of its release.
At this, the critics tried to reduce the series’ fame merely to its mature content and graphic nature. But even these skeptics admitted that Hell’s Paradise presented a unique and oddly appealing set of contradictory concepts.
After all, the series featured death-row inmates trying to stay alive by keeping their very executioners safe; the emotionless protagonist willing to live only for the sake of his wife’s affection; people willing to die to find immortality; executioners deciding to spare lives of their assigned criminals; and finally, immortal beings fearing mortals.
And so, it’s hardly surprising that the manga caught the attention of MAPPA Studio, which is notorious for picking action-packed apocalyptic series.
MAPPA did a great job animating the manga panels to perfection, creating a build-up of emotions through the first three episodes. And then, the studio pulled that classic ‘shattering all our expectations’ move by suddenly changing every character’s tone.
This also explains why the series earned record viewership and why fans started demanding a renewal for a second season even before the series concluded. But it seems that MAPPA was keeping up with its fanbase as the series was greenlit for a second season moments after the first season’s finale premiered.
Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku Season 2 Release Date
Though the series is renewed for another season, MAPPA has not officially announced the release date of Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku season 2. And so, we don’t know for sure when the second season will come out.
As fans, we’re all hoping for the anime to come out as soon as possible; but I think the second season of Hell’s Paradise anime will come out earlier than Spring 2024.
The reason why I’ve mentioned next year is not just because MAPPA has just finished airing the first season of Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku, and it usually takes at least six months before a sequel is aired, but it’s also because MAPPA has a tradition of airing multiple anime titles per year.
Aside from Hell’s Paradise anime this year, MAPPA has already released Vinland Saga season 2, Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill, Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 3, and Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2. Meanwhile, MAPPA has already announced Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Kōjō and Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 4 for the latter half of 2023.
And so, the studio is so busy that it has begun scheduling new series for 2024, including Bucchigiri?!, Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence and Zombie Land Saga the Movie.
So, we can anticipate Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku season 2 as early as the first half of 2024.
That said, the second season’s trailer has promised us an anime as thrilling and entertaining as the first season of Hell’s Paradise.
Hell’s Paradise Season 2 Trailer:
The official website of Hell’s Paradise anime greenlit the series for another season by releasing a short PV moments after the season 1 finale premiered.
While the PV didn’t give away any details of the upcoming season, it certainly promises an action-packed anime.
The PV also featured Yamada Asaemon Shugen, who was earlier introduced in the first season’s finale. He is ranked second only to Eizen in the Yamada Asaemon hierarchy and will be sent to Shinsenkyō to acquire Elixir of Life as the leader of a second team.
What to Expect From Hell’s Paradise Season 2?
Hell’s Paradise season 1 finale featured Shion defeating Mu Dan to save Sagiri and Yuzuriha. Meanwhile, Senta dies from his injuries as flowers keep budding out of his body. Later, as the survivors exchange information to make sense of all that’s happened, Yuzuriha suggests “Elixir of Life” may just be a fable.
Though Sagiri refutes her by talking about Gabimaru’s previous leader, who was immortal, Yuzuriha snaps back, speculating that Gabimaru may just be under his leader’s Genjetsu and that, Gabimaru’s wife may also be just an illusion.
Shocked, Sagiri stops Yuzuriha from conjecturing further but later clarifies to Shion that she only has sympathy for Gabimaru.
At a different place, Gabimaru regains consciousness, but he seems to have lost all his memories from the recent past due to his sudden and excessive usage of Tao. However, he doesn’t let Fuchi or Mei know about his memory loss, as he has decided to use them as a source of information.
But the series concluded as Yamada Asaemon Shugen and his comrade are told about Shogun’s decree to depart to Shinsenkyō to assist the Vanguard party.
As the first season covered the first 45 manga chapters, we can expect Hell’s Paradise season 2 to pick the story from the next manga chapter. If that happens, the second team under Yamada Asaemon Shugen’s command will land on Shinsenkyō.
While Shugen’s party will have multiple Yamada Asaemon, including Isuzu, Jikka, and Kiyomaru, there’ll be multiple Iwagakure shinobis accompanying them with a secret mission to kill Gabimaru, as ordered by the Iwagakure Chief.
And so, the mission to help Vanguard Party will likely become more messy and violent.
We’ll also probably get some insight into Gabimaru’s past; or if Yuzuriha’s speculations about his wife are true. Also, Sagiri has started taking on a more proactive role, and we may see tremendous growth in her skills.
That said, the first season of Hell’s Paradise didn’t completely cover the “Lord Tensen arc,” which extends up to manga chapter 59. Since that leaves only 14 manga chapters for the coming season, we can anticipate that Hell’s Paradise season 2 will also cover the “Horai Arc,” where all the surviving executioners and criminals will join hands to find the Elixir of Life.
But the “Horai arc” encompasses chapters 60-110. So, we cannot say for sure if season 2 will adapt the entirety of the Horai Arc. We can still anticipate that Hell’s Paradise season 2 will likely cover at least 40 manga chapters in 12-13 episodes. But this is a mere assumption, and the studio might decide to have more episodes in the second season.
Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku Season 2 Cast & Crew Details
Since MAPPA has promised another season through a trailer, we can expect that the series will soon be under production. And so, we can anticipate that the previous cast and crew members will return.
If that happens, Kaori Makita and Akira Kindaichi will reprise their respective roles as director and scriptwriter. Meanwhile, Koji Hisaki will remain the character designer, and Yoshiaki Dewa will return as the music composer.
We can also expect the voice cast to reprise their roles, and so we’ll be seeing:
- Chiaki Kobayashi as Gabimaru
- Yumiri Hanamori as Sagiri
- Rie Takahashi as Yuzuriha
- Chikahiro Kobayashi as Shion
- Makoto Koichi as Nurugai
- Ryohei Kimura as Aza Choubei
- Tetsu Inada as Gantetsusai Tamiya
- Aoi Ichikawa as Fuchi
- Konomi Kohora as Mei
That said, the new cast members for new characters set to appear in the second season of Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku anime are yet to be announced.
Is Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku Manga Finished?
Yes, Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku manga is finished. The manga series concluded on January 25th, 2021. The manga contains 127 chapters compiled in a total of 13 tankōbon volumes.
The anime so far has covered only 45 manga chapters, i.e., around five volumes.
So, if you’re an anime fan, but you can’t contain yourself and want to know what happens next, you can start reading manga from chapter 46 onwards.
Conclusion
Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku season 2 is officially greenlit through a short PV. We anticipate that MAPPA will again exceed the fan’s expectations by producing a thrilling season. While the series is expected to come out in Spring 2024, we cannot say for sure until MAPPA officially declares a date.
