The release date of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End anime is approaching fast. And so, it won’t be long before we see our favorite manga characters in live animation. But when is the anime coming out? If you’re here to know about the anime’s release date, keep reading as we’ll discuss everything we know about Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End anime so far!
Being a fantasy-adventure manga series that debuted right at the peak of Covid-19, “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” wasn’t expected to perform well.
After all, it’s usually that cliché plot where a hero party travels through some distant lands to kill the notorious ‘Demon King.’ Also, they almost always have that elvish female mage with super cool powers and moon-colored hair.
But the writer Kanehito Yamada certainly had a spark of creativity. It’s because his story did involve getting rid of that traditional demon king, but it was all in the past, and the story takes place after the defeat of the Demon King.
At this point, you’d expect Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End to revolve around a demon child who would be prophesied to rise and take over the world.
However, the manga avoided all that stereotype and hinged on the idea that elvish people lived for centuries. And so, when an elvish heroine sees her peers aging and perishing right before her eyes, she is taken aback.
But when Tsukasa Abe breathed life into this story through her manga illustrations, she didn’t just portray feelings of melancholy and regret. Rather, she also showed that living for ages didn’t mean learning everything. In other words, being old cannot take away the excitement of learning new things.
Considering all this, it’s no wonder Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End became an instant hit and sold millions of copies despite the pandemic. And so, the fans were ecstatic when the 9th manga volume carried a key visual with the thrilling news of its anime adaptation.
But there was no mention of a production or release schedule, so we all anticipated a delayed screening. Thankfully, our guesses have been proven wrong, and we’ll soon see the anime coming out.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Anime Release Date
According to the official website, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End anime is set to premiere in the final quarter of 2023, i.e., in October 2023. An exact release date wasn’t mentioned, but October is approaching fast, so we can expect more details in the coming weeks.
Madhouse Studio was announced as the main production studio, and that’s excellent news. This is the same studio responsible for giving us a range of different anime masterpieces, including Death Note, Beyblade, Monster, and Black Lagoon, as well as Hunter x Hunter, Overlord, One Punch Man, No Game No Life, and most recently Sonny Boy.
And so, we can expect the animation to be perfectly coherent with the series’ deep and mystical tone that’s not usually found in the fantasy-adventure genre.
This also seems evident from the series’ latest promo video!
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Anime Trailer
On March 8th, 2023, Madhouse Studio released the first promo video of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, which unveiled details regarding the anime’s release schedule, cast, and crew members.
While the PV also hinted at the anime’s graphic quality, it didn’t give away much of the series’ plot.
Surely, most manga fans know the plot by heart as they’ve been following the story for 3 years. But if you’re a new fan or it’s been a long time since you last read the first chapter, you may want to know what this anime is about and what to expect from it.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Anime Plot & Expectations
After spending a decade to defeat the Demon King, the Hero party finally returns home. But at the time of disbanding, they witness the Era Meteors, a celestial event that happens only once every fifty years.
And so, Frieren, the Eflish mage, promises the rest of the party a better viewing for the next Era meteors. However, elves have long life spans, so time passes differently for them.
So when Frieren returns home after fifty years, she finds a drastically changed human civilization. She also feels odd as the rest of her companions have grown old, but she hasn’t aged at all.
While they all witness Era Meteors together as promised, the human hero named Himmel soon dies afterward.
This causes the usually aloof Frieren to feel deep feelings of regret that she could’ve cherished her ten years with them and that she barely knew what Himmel was truly like. And so, she starts to appreciate her time and focus on things that she previously took for granted.
Looking at her changed attitude, her other aging peer, Heiter, talks Frieren into taking his young apprentice, Fren, under her tutelage. And so, a new era of journeys begins.
While Madhouse hasn’t declared an exact number of episodes for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End anime, we can anticipate that the anime will contain at least 12-13 episodes.
However, all this is still a mere assumption, as no official announcements have been made in this regard.
Besides, the anime may cover more material in a few episodes through fast pacing. Or, the anime may feature more than one season or several cours, as there’s enough content available to create at least 3 cours.
After all, the manga is ongoing and consists of 10 volumes containing approximately 100 chapters.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Anime Cast & Crew Details
The official trailer has revealed seasoned Keiichiro Saito as the main director, who has a diverse range of experience working on various masterpieces, including Bocchi the Rock!, Sonny Boy, Doraemon, Gunma-chan, ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept., and Mob Psycho 100.
Also, Tomohiro Suzuki and Yuichiro Fukuyashi will join as the head writer and the animation producer, respectively.
So we can expect excellent and well-organized animation as both gentlemen have previously worked together on various successful projects.
That said, Reiko Nagasawa is declared the Character designer, and she has also worked with the same team on several projects. But her distinguished works include anime like Overlord, Takt Op. Destiny, Made in Abyss, and One Punch Man.
As Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End features a journey across unfamiliar lands and different eras, Madhouse couldn’t have chosen a better music composer than Evan Call, who has a way of creating Japanese-American fusion music.
As for the cast members, only Atsumi Tanezaki is announced as the Japanese voice behind Frieren. And so, we’ll have to wait for further announcements to know who will be playing the rest of the characters.
