The show revolves around a Yakuza member, Nitta and how his life changes when he comes across a young girl named Hina who’s supposedly from a strange world. What makes Nitta take Hina in his care is that she possesses tremendous supernatural powers that could be useful for his Yakuza business, but he runs the risk of her using these powers on him. Moreover, if she doesn’t use her powers, she will go berserk and end up destroying everything around him.
However, the story doesn’t just revolve around Hina and Nitta, as more mysterious girls make their appearance in the show to make things even more interesting!

2. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.
This is a gem of a show if you love comedy anime! The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. revolves around a young boy named Saiki Kusuo who’s born with tremendous psychic powers that imbues him with various abilities like telepathy, X-ray vision, teleportation and more. You’d think that being the most powerful psychic in the world would be a great thing, but Saiki doesn’t think of it that way. He wants to live a carefree life with no hassles but his powers, and the people around him, keep causing him a lot of inconveniences.
He tries to keep his powers a secret, but that only invites more trouble as he attracts the worst kind of attention in the form of the many odd characters and their craziness.

3. Mirai Nikki
Yukiteru Amano is a lonely high-school student who keeps writing everything that happens around him in his cellphone diary. He even has two imaginary friends, one is Deus Ex Machina who is revealed to be the God of Time and Space, and his servant named Murmur. As Deus reveals his identity, he grants Yuki a future diary called “Random Diary” capable of showing events that will happen in the near future and plunges him into a deadly battle of survival with other future diary owners and proclaims that the last person standing in this battle will become the next God of Time and Space.
Being a lonely student, he teams up with Gasai Yuno who’s in love with him and is his obsessive stalker. Plus, she also possesses a future diary and takes it upon herself to keep him safe. But things don’t really turn out as you imagine as there are many more elements at play especially when the winner of the battle will be granted the position of a God!

4. That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime
If you’ve not heard about this awesome new anime that came out last year, then you are missing out on one of the best isekai anime to be ever made. Like most other similar shows, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime also features a ridiculously over-powered main character, but the way it takes care of storytelling is what makes it awesome. Rimuru Tempest is reborn in a new world as a slime monster and he receives a number of unique skills, the main one being “Predator” that allows him to devour other monsters and make their abilities his own.
The show has the perfect blend of comedic elements, a wide array of memorable characters, a unique main character and the animation and the battle sequences are also top-notch. So, if you are looking for anime recommendations for 2019, this should be on your watch list!

5. Parasyte: The Maxim
Parasyte: The Maxim focuses on a high-school student Shinichi Izumi who falls prey to a parasite, snake-like beings that attack humans in order to take control of their body. However, this parasite fails to take control of Shinichi’s brain and develops his own intellect in his right arm. But many other humans were not so fortunate as they were completely taken over by the parasites. If the brain is successfully taken over, a “parasyte” is born with the abilities of morphing body parts into weapons like blades.
Shinichi learns about this from “Migi”, the parasite in his right hand, and the duo have to reluctantly support each other in order to defend themselves from hostile parasytes who want to eradicate all human life.

6. Hellsing & Hellsing Ultimate
If you ever want recommendations of anime featuring overpowered characters, you are always going to get Hellsing as an answer. Hellsing, and Hellsing Ultimate, is set in a world where supernatural creatures like vampires exist and they wreak havoc on humankind. There is an organization known as Hellsing whose sole purpose is to exterminate these creatures and head of the organization, Integra, commands a powerful army.
However, her army is nothing compared to her ultimate weapon, Alucard, a vampire himself who works for the organization and fights his own kind. If you are a fan of action and gore, and all things vampire, then you are in for a ride!

7. Yuri!!! on Ice
What will you do when the person you most admire suddenly appears in front of you and offers to be your mentor? You’ll accept of course, as did Yuuri Katsuki. The 23-year old was Japan’s most promising skater once but after a crushing defeat, he returned to his family home to think about what he wants to do with his life. However, a video of him performing the routine previously executed by world-champion Victor goes viral, his life takes a new turn.
Now with Victor as his mentor, Yuuri begins his new journey of conquering the world stage but the competition is fierce as there are other promising talents who he has to beat!

8. Kakegurui: Compulsive Gambler
The anime focuses on the students attending Hyakkaou Private Academy which is completely different than the other schools as it takes a new approach to prepare its students for the real world. By the day, it functions as a normal school, but it turns into a gambling den by night in order to educate them into dealing with day-to-day lives i.e. making money and manipulating people. As most of the students are from some of the richest families, everything is resolved with gambling at this place.
But everything changes when Yumeko Jabami, a beautiful transfer student, enrolls in the school because unlike others, she doesn’t care about money in the least and doesn’t play to win but to experience the thrills of gambling. The tougher a game, the more she will love it and her insane love for gambling puts her in the spotlight!

9. Slam Dunk
Hanamichi Sakuragi is infamous for his temper, and of course his towering height, and his only goal seems to be getting a girlfriend for himself. After getting rejected 50 consecutive times in middle school, he enrolls in Shohoku High in hopes of breaking this record. But his reputation precedes him leading him to be avoided by all the students. Plus he hates basketball!
Then a girl named Haruko Akagi approaches him, being completely oblivious about his reputation, and asks him if he likes basketball. He blurts out an affirmative, in order to impress her, and she then leads him to the gym and asks him to do a slam dunk. He completely misjudges his goal and overshoots surprising Haruko with his superior physical abilities. Haruko then tells about this to the basketball team’s captain and Hanamichi soon finds himself playing the same sport that he hated.
10. No Game No Life
If you are a gamer, then you will love watching No Game No Life where all the disputes are solved with games. Sora and Shiro are shut-in siblings and also the online gamer duo behind the legendary username “Blank”. They spend most of their time playing games and consider the world as just another lousy game. But everything changes when they receive a strange email challenging them to a game of chess because they are soon transported to another world ruled by the God of Games, Tet.
The God welcomes the siblings to the world of Disboard where everything is resolved through high-stake games and the fundamental rule is that each party has to wager something that is of equal value to the other party’s wager. The duo has finally found a reason to keep playing games and they decide to unite the 16 races of the world, defeat Tet and become gods themselves!

11. Another
If horror anime is something that really excites you, then you must have already watched Another. The story follows a 15-year old student, Kouichi Sakakibara who transfer to Yomiyama North and discovers that something strange is going on. He finds a strange eyepatch-wearing girl in the class, named Mei Misaki, who is treated as if she doesn’t exist by all the teachers and the students. Kouichi pays no heed to the warnings given by others and begins getting closer to Mei, and also closer to the truth behind the stranger environment that’s completely engulfed his entire class.
12. Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto
The slice of life anime is something that you have to watch to truly understand its epicness! Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto follows the life of Sakamoto who is the epitome of perfection. He is sophisticated and suave, and his intelligence and charm has the girls swooning over him and the guys burning with jealousy.
No one is able to get closer to gaining an upper-hand on Sakamoto as he quickly foils all attempts to trip him. The students, and the teachers as well, are at the end of their wits; but can they come up with something to bring Sakamoto below them? Probably not!

13. Mob Psycho 100
Mob Psycho 100 is One-Punch Man but with overwhelming psychic powers instead overwhelming physical strength. It makes sense because both these shows are created by the same author! The show focuses on a timid school student, Shigeo Kageyama, who has immense psychic abilities but due to his anxious nature, he doesn’t use them to the fullest. He works part-time for Reigen Arataka who runs a business that deals with supernatural threats by taking full advantage of Shigeo’s powers.
Although Shigeo keeps his emotions bottled up most of the time, there are times when he is pushed in a corner and all his emotions explode, mainly rage, unleashing all his latent psychic powers and when that happens, his opponents can’t do a single thing to him!

14. Gintama
If you’ve ever searched for comedy anime, then you would have found Gintama at the top because it’s that hilarious. While it has some really epic action sequences and great story arcs, it’s mostly popular due to the excellent comedic bits that makes everyone laugh out loud. The story is set in feudal Japan where alien invaders have taken over and issued a ban on the use of swords. As a result, the samurai are banished but Gintoki, being a samurai by heart, goes around with his unique companions and completes various odd jobs. Of course, these odd jobs are not simple and they often lead to unfortunate consequences that are quite often humorous.
15. Btooom!
Btooom! follows the story of Ryouta Sakamoto who is unemployed and is Japan’s top player in the online video game called “Btooom!”. However, he finds himself stranded on an island one day with no memory of how he got there and with a green crystal embedded on his left hand. He soon discovers that someone had recreated the very game he loved in real life and plunged many other players as well. All the players are armed with a bag full of unique bombs and they are tasked with killing seven other participants and take their green crystals as proof of their victory in order to return home.
Ryouta condemns any form of violence in the beginning, but he soon learns that other players are not that welcoming. So, he teams up with another player, Himiko who happens to be his in-game wife, and they work together to get off the island and inch closer to the real truth behind this deadly contest!
16. Ajin: Demi-Human
Ajins are mysterious human beings who are immortal and they first appeared in Africa 17 years ago. Since then, they have been labeled as threat to mankind, as they may use their powers for evil purposes, and whenever an Ajin is found, they are immediately arrested. Kei Nagai is a high school student who knows very little about these beings but after surviving an accident that should have taken his life, he discovers that he himself is an Ajin. Thus begins his days of torment as he finds himself alone and on the run from the entire world!

17. Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei
The show is set in a world where magic is no longer part of folklore but is developed as a technology and is taught in schools as a technical skill. Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba are siblings who enroll in the First High School where students are segregated based on their entrance exam scores – the high scorers are assigned to the “Blooms” group, while the rest are assigned to the “Weeds” group! After taking the exam, Miyuki is placed in the First Course due to exceptional performance, while Tatsuya is assigned to the “Weeds” group and placed in the Second Course.
Even though Tatsuya’s scores show him magically inept, he possesses extreme technological knowledge, physical combat abilities and unique magic techniques that put him on par with the strongest in the school!

18. Little Witch Academia
After hearing the motivational words from her idol, the renowned witch Shiny Chariot, Akko had decided to follow in her footsteps and become a powerful witch just like her. So, despite having a non-magical background, Akko enrolls in the Luna Nova Magical Academy where she makes new friends and together with them, begins her journey. She also discovers Shiny Chariot’s magic wand which she keeps as her own and despite having an ineptitude in magic, she stays determined in order to become strong and not be inferior in any way to her peers.
The show’s plot seems exactly like Black Clover; so if you like that magic anime, you’d want to check out Little Witch Academia as well!

19. Assassination Classroom
Before I started watching this series, I had some reservations of it being really weird but it completely blew my mind away and taught me to never judge anything before trying it out once! Assassination Classroom focuses on a group of children, who are considered the lowest of the lows in their school, as they try to become assassins and kill their new teacher within a span of one year. The stakes are raised as the new teacher is octopus-looking monster who is extremely powerful, and who has already destroyed half of the moon, threatens to do the same to the Earth if the students are unable to kill him before the set date. To make matters worse, the monsters is capable of traveling at Mach 20 speed, is virtually indestructible as normal weapons don’t work on him and has a slew of other powerful abiltiies. But he works with the government and gives them weapons that will harm him and even kill him!
Although the plot sounds like a dark anime show, it couldn’t be farther away from that genre. In fact, it’s an awesome action-cum-comedy anime with perfect storytelling and all the characters are unique with Koro-sensei (the new teacher) bringing out the best in all of them and making them the top students at their school!

20. Toradora
Ryuuji Takasu is a gentle high school student with a kind nature, but he has an intimidating face that makes him look like a delinquent; and Taiga Aisaka who looks like a cute and fragile girl but is anything but that because she is known as the “Palmtop Tiger” in the school due to her feisty personality. After both these polar opposite students cross path with each other, they discover each other’s different side. Taiga has a crush on the vice president who is Ryuuji’s best friend and Ryuuji has a crush on Minori who happens to be Taiga’s best friend. They both then help each other get closer to their respective crushes and forms an unlikely alliance in the process.
I am pretty sure that you might have already watched Toradora; but since it’s one of the best rom-com anime, you should watch it again or tell your friend to watch it!
21. Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid
What would you do if you, in a drunken stupor, invited a dragon to live with you and the dragon actually showed up? That’s the entire plot of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid! Kobayashi met the dragon while in the mountains the previous night, and thanks to being drunk the entire time, she had offered the mythical creature a place to stay in her home. The dragon showed up the next day while she was preparing to leave for work and it quickly transformed into a cute, energetic young girl in a maid outfit because she wants to repay Kobayashi’s kindness by working as her maidservant.
Though unwilling at first, Kobayashi accepts her offer after witnessing her incredible abilities. But even after being extremely efficient in her work, the maid’s unorthodox methods bring more trouble than help. Moreover, the arrival of the dragon also attracts other mythical creatures to her house that leads to bizarre and crazy situations.
