The Misfit of Demon King Academy season 2 is just around the corner, and if you are a fan of overpowered protagonists completely decimating their opponents, you probably love this show!
Initially authored by Shu as a 2017 web novel on a user-generated website Shōsetsuka ni Narō, The Misfit of Demon King Academy became an instant hit when ASCII Media Works started publishing it in light novel volumes.
By July 2018, the series was already picked up for manga illustrations, and the anime adaptation was under consideration by Silver Link Studio. Even with the Covid-19 pandemic, the series was only slightly delayed and aired from July to September 2020.
With such a swift journey to fame and an already-established fanbase, The Misfit of Demon King Academy anime was bound to be phenomenal.
And yet, the pilot episode was ranked worst for any anime by all standards. It’s even more surprising that the series quickly recovered from this early setback within months as the 13 episodes of season 1 streamed on.
It may be that the anime was rejected initially only for its typical fantasy-harem vibe. However, the series had a deceptively intellectual element – the protagonist was attractive not just for his physical features but his brains and genius schemes.
Consequently, the anime caused more fans to read through light novel volumes and even more to explore the original web novel chapters to see what happens next. Subsequently, the second season of The Misfit of Demon King Academy was teased early in 2021. Therefore, the fans are now anxiously waiting for the sequel.
When is The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2 Coming Out?
The official Twitter account for The Misfit of Demon King Academy teased a renewal of season 2 in February 2021. However, the announcement for its renewal in 2023 was made at Kadokawa Light Novel Expo 2020, held on March 6-7, 2021. A key visual was also released to commemorate the event!
But netizens could only make wild guesses about exactly when in 2023 the second season would release. Now, we know for sure that The Misfit of Demon King Academy season 2 is set to premiere in January 2023.
The announcement for confirmation of January 2023 was made in Aniplex Online Fest 2022, held this September 24th. Other significant declarations in this event included the release of Solo Leveling anime, NieR: Automata Ver1.1 anime, and a short PV for Bleach TYBW.
The first season was postponed from March 2020 to July 2020 because of the Covid-19 crisis. But no delays are expected for the season 2 screening. That said, the exact date of the season 2 release is still not declared, but it will premiere in January 2023.
How Many Episodes Will Be in The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2?
Season 1 contained 13 episodes that covered light novel volumes 1-3. Therefore, we can predict a similar number of episodes for season 2, most likely encompassing volumes 4-6. But the second season of The Misfit of Demon King Academy is declared to be a split-cour season.
That means the season will run in two cours with a gap of about 3-4 months break, or it could be just a single season featuring two cours aired without any breaks.
Since split-cour seasons typically contain 10-13 episodes per cour, it seems highly probable that anime will adapt the next 6 volumes of the light novel series (volumes 4-9) into a total of 24 episodes.
Besides, the web novel is still ongoing beyond chapter 670, and light novels are also being published, currently confined to 12 volumes. So, we may even get a third season after season 2 concludes.
That said, it is noteworthy that the manga adaptation of The Misfit of Demon King Academy has been officially canceled because of the sudden death of manga artist Kayaharuka in July 2021. But the English translation of already adapted manga chapters is still underway.
What to Expect from The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2?
Silver Link Studio has released the official trailer, which does not give away much of the plotline. But it certainly promises a more action-packed series compared to season 1. Shin Oonuma and Masafumi Tamura are again declared as directors.
Characters including Anos Voldigoad, Sasha Necron, Misha Necron, and Lay Glanzudlii, as well as others, have been seen in the trailer. So, we can expect much of the usual cast. However, Yuichiro Umehara is replacing Tatsuhisa Suzuki to voice Anos Voldigoad, the main protagonist.
But Yuichiro Umehara has garnered fame for voicing Goblin Slayer in Goblin Slayer Season 1 & 2, Seiya Ryuuguuin in the Cautious Hero: The Hero is Overpowered but Overly Cautious, Weather Report in JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure: Stone Ocean among others.
What is The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2 About?
The Misfit of Demon King Academy or Maou Gakuin, which is a short version of “Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha: Shijou Saikyou no Maou no Shiso, Tensei shite Shison-Tachi no Gakkou e Kayou” had been quite the extraordinary series.
It starts like a typical fantasy series resembling “The Irregular at Magic High School” as the extremely powerful demon, Anos Voldigoad, does not get recognized for his powers and is declared a misfit at the Demon King Academy.
However, the similarities end there, as the demon lord is a reborn entity from 2000 years ago.
Besides, Anos, in his prime, was so powerful that even the gods no longer meddled with him. After millennia of living through war, the demon lord got bored and sought what every anxious soul had ever craved – Peace.
Ironically, such peace seemed impossible when Anos was still alive. And so, he chose to sacrifice himself and strike a deal with the human hero, Kanon.
But when Anos gets reborn 2000 years into the future, he finds the world riddled with hatred and class discrimination. In the new world, pure-blood demons are elite, while hybrid demons are considered scum.
Moreover, no one even remembers Anos Voldigoad but a fake Demon King Avos Delhevia.
So, the series keeps swinging from past to present, exploring how a fake demon lord got established and what Anos has to overcome to regain his title.
But season 1 concluded with the destruction of the main antagonist. So, we can look forward to the entry of a new villain and characters from both the past and the future.
However, the tone of season 2 from its trailer seems more inclined toward dark fantasy and action. We can still expect a combination of serious moments with comedic relief, just like in season 1, as the directors and cast are still from the previous season.
I hope this article helped you with your queries regarding The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2 release and what it’s about. So, let’s have some patience, as only a couple of weeks remain before the new season premieres!
