Crackdown 3 was one of the few games announced by Microsoft at the E3 conference yesterday that we already expected. News of the game has been around for years but it was only yesterday that the official announcement was made.
Like a few more titles, Crackdown 3 had the liberty to be showcased for Microsoft’s latest gaming console, the Xbox One X. The trailer featured 4K resolution graphics and HDR support. The game itself will follow suit to its predecessors when it comes to the destruction element. The Crackdown series is known for its open-world online gameplay where you can literally go anywhere, any time, and pick up a random object from the streets (cars and streetlights are eligible) and throw them around, collecting orbs along the way. The game is also popular for its leaping-into-the-air controls and thankfully, Crackdown 3 will pack all these features.
However, there are some changes placed in order for the new game. This time Crackdown 3 will not feature the element of massive destruction (that was done through cloud-computing) in the single-player campaign mode, and that feature will only be reserved for the multiplayer mode. The campaign mode is being developed by Sumo Digital, but the series creator Dave Jones is still the series creator.
As far as the trailer itself is concerned, we can see the actor Terry Crews in the opening scene, although whether he will make an appearance in the actual game is still a mystery. Gameplay demos and the trailer itself showed off the familiar aspects of the Crackdown series – jumping through skyscrapers with jetpack-assisted extra boosts, and shoving cars onto the enemies.
Speaking of, the storyline of the game will revolve around the protagonist fighting against the villain named Captain who rules over the city that’s divided into districts. Your mission is to take down his gang and their control over the area.
While some might find the trailer to leave a poor first impression with jittery animations, and the world now limited in the Campaign mode, we still have high hopes for Microsoft to wow us when the game actually releases.
Crackdown 3 is scheduled to release on November 7th this year and will launch on the Xbox One and PC first. Once the Xbox One X releases, also on November 7th, we can expect a version of the game for the new platform releasing pretty soon as well.
