Following the conclusion of the first season of Blue Lock, the showrunners have officially announced a Blue Lock season 2, which means it won’t be long before we see our favorite characters back on the football field trying to become the best striker in the world!
And it’s not just a second season that was announced; there’s also a Blue Lock movie coming out, tentatively titled “Blue Lock: EPISODE Nagi,” which will adapt the spinoff story focusing on Seishirou Nagi.
The first season of Blue Lock started with a bang; with a unique cast of characters, a fantastic plot, excellent animation, and multiple intense football matches, it easily became one of the best sports anime of all time.
Some of the most promising football players from around Japan, all of them strikers, were brought into the Blue Lock project to compete against one another to become the best striker. With one intense match after another, the players that managed to survive till the end discovered their unique skills and learned about the abilities that they can use to score goals no matter who they are up against.
But by the time the first season concluded, we saw they were still no match for the world’s best players. But that didn’t demotivate Yoichi Isagi and the lot; they just got more fired up.
Even though the first season ended with the players losing against the World Five, Blue Lock season 2 will see them go all in to polish their skills and become the best version of themselves. So, it’s only natural that you’d want to know when the second season comes out. Let’s not waste any time and talk about that!
Blue Lock Season 2 Release Date:
At the time of writing this, there is no news on when the upcoming season will release. We don’t even have a release window.
However, based on the first season’s popularity and the manga series’s popularity, it’s safe to say that the next season could premiere as early as 2024. But as there’s also a movie releasing, the movie will likely release first, probably by the end of 2023, followed by season 2 in the Spring or Summer of 2024.
The announcement of season 2 comes as no surprise because the first season exceeded expectations and became one of the best anime series of the year. Fans eagerly awaited the release of the new episodes, and with every new episode, the show just kept getting better and better.
Due to the popularity of the anime adaptation, the Blue Lock manga series also saw a massive spike in sales as every new manga volume released found itself on the bestseller list. Even the older volumes released before the anime was announced sold like hotcakes.
So, there was no reason to think there won’t be a Blue Lock season 2; everyone expected it to be announced as soon as the first season concluded.
But it was a surprise that the Blue Lock movie was also announced, which will adapt Seishirou Nagi’s story. It makes sense, though, because Seishirou Nagi is one of the most popular Blue Lock characters, so giving his spinoff story an anime adaptation is the best thing to do!
What to Expect from Blue Lock Season 2?
After the fantastic finale of Blue Lock’s first season that left fans excited for the upcoming match, it’s natural that you’d want to know what to expect.
Unless you are a manga reader, you wouldn’t know what’s the come, and what is to come will be even better, even grander than what we saw in the first season. The players from the Blue Lock project are about to go up against Japan’s U20 football team!
The second season of Blue Lock will adapt two story arcs, Third Selection Arc and U20 Arc.
During the Third Selection arc, the players who have passed the second selection will play against each other to prove their worth and make a place for themselves in the Blue Lock Eleven team which will ultimately play against the Japanese U20 team.
This is the arc where we get to see every player remaining in the Blue Lock project and find out who is the best.
Once that’s done, and the Blue Lock Eleven team is selected, the story moves to the ultimate match, Blue Lock Eleven vs. Japan’s U20 team!
Unlike most of the matches that Yoichi Isagi and other Blue Lock players have been a part of during the entire show, their match against Japan’s U20 team will be witnessed by a live audience as they will play in a stadium filled with spectators.
And as they are going up against a team led by none other than Sae Itoshi, people from all over the world will be tuning in to watch the match.
So, that’s all I can say at this point because I don’t want to spoil the story for you. That’s the gist of what we can expect from the upcoming Blue Lock season 2. And I don’t think the second season will adapt any more arcs. I’m pretty sure that these two arcs will be adapted, and season 2 will conclude with the conclusion of the match against the Japan U20 team.
Is There A Trailer For Blue Lock Season 2?
No, there’s not. The first season just concluded, so it’s pretty early to have a trailer or even a teaser for the upcoming season.
But it won’t be a long wait before we get some new information from the new season because Blue Lock is a hot property right now, and it wouldn’t be the smart move not to feed the fans’ egos by constantly giving them new updates to keep the hype surrounding the title up.
So, as soon as a trailer is released and any cast and crew details are announced, I will update this article to ensure you have all the information you need for the upcoming season.
Although there’s no trailer for now, there is an announcement video announcing the upcoming season 2 and the movie. You can watch it below:
Blue Lock Season 2 – New Cast:
Apart from the characters from the first season, we’ll see several new characters debuting in the second season. Their voice actors have been announced, and they are as follows:
- Yuichi Nakamura as Ryusei Shido
- Makoto Furukawa as Tabito Karasu
- Kengo Kawanishi as Eita Otoya
- Takuya Eguchi as Kenyu Yukimiya
- Hiro Shimono as Julian Loki
- Shinichiro Kamio as Leonardo Luna
As for the cast for the recurring characters, we don’t know if the cast and crew from the previous season will reprise their roles or not. But given how popular these characters have gotten, it’s likely that the voice actors from the first season will return to voice the show’s main characters for the second season as well.
Conclusion
The only thing we can do right now is wait for any new update on season 2 of Blue Lock. If you’ve watched all the first season’s episodes weekly, I suggest you do what I am about to do now. I’ll be binge-watching the entire season 1, starting from the first episode, and then I’ll probably read the manga as well because I cannot wait for the anime adaptation when there’s already the manga series to consume.
But that’s just me; if you only like to watch anime and not read manga, you can wait for the second season’s premiere because it doesn’t look like it will be too long.
Until then, we can only wait for any updates from the showrunners and the studio. I’ll update this article as soon as new information about the Blue Lock season 2 release date is announced!
