Sword Art Online
This is a no-brainer and I am pretty sure that you all expected to see Sword Art Online in the list. While it’s similar to The Rising of the Shield Hero in the game-like setting and the isekai genre, it’s not that similar when you compare the characters and their developments. But if you are looking for good transported-to-another-world anime, then SAO is a really good anime to watch. It essentially is the most popular isekai anime right now and will continue to do so for many years to come which is why you should watch it if you haven’t already.

Just like The Rising of the Shield Hero, the main character is thrown into another world against his wishes and put in a situation where they have to survive only using their wits and abilities, and slowly climb up the power ladder with all the odds stacked against them.
That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime
One of the best isekai anime to come out recently, and probably the best, That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime feels like a breath of fresh air in the otherwise crowded genre. It’s not just a unique show in the isekai genre, but also the monster genre as it features all different kinds of monsters like the ever-popular goblins as well as ogres, orcs, Demon Lords, dragons and more. However, the best part about the show is the main character, who happens to die in the first episode only to be reincarnated in a completely new fantasy world as a slime. However, this slime is not just any common slime as it’s imbued with unique skills and abundant magical power. The show is a perfect blend of action and comedy, unique characters and a perfect storytelling and you will be hooked from the very first episode.
Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-
Most of the isekai titles are quite light-hearted so when The Rising of the Shield Hero showed that it can take the dark route as well, it immediately appealed to the fans. And if you are a fan of dark anime, then you would definitely want to watch Re:ZERO as well. The main character of the show, Subaru Natsuki, who’s transported to a fantasy world all of a sudden, and is immediately robbed by a band of thugs. He is saved by a girl named Satella, who’s also in pursuit of someone and he decides to help her finding what she seeks. However, things take a much darker turn as both Subaru and Satella are brutally murdered only for Subaru to wake up to a familiar scene – confronted by the same thugs, getting saved by Satella and reliving everything once again.
How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord
Just like The Rising of the Shield Hero where the main character is summoned to a different world, How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord also focuses on the main character being summoned. But, here the main character gets to keep his gaming identity of the powerful Demon Lord, Diablo, while exploring the new fantasy world of Cross Reverie along with two companions. These two girls were responsible for summoning him in the first place and after a magic spell that got reflected, they became the slaves of the Demon Lord. It became quite popular when it first aired and after successfully finishing the first season, it’s considered as good title in the isekai genre as well as in the ecchi genre because there’s quite a lot of fan-service shown in the anime.
Spice and Wolf
This is not really an isekai title unlike most of the others mentioned on this list, but there are some pretty similar elements that makes it like The Rising of the Shield Hero. For example, the main characters have a companion in both the shows who happen to be a demi-human and both the shows focus a lot on the merchanting skills of the main character. So, if you don’t mind the lack of action sequences like other shows, then you definitely need to watch Spice and Wolf where Lawrence and Holo travel together and explore the countryside for lucrative business opportunities.
Tower of Druaga: The Aegis of Uruk
Jil is just like any other adventurer who wants to reach at the top of the Tower of Druaga, but things aren’t going good for him. For starters, he lacks experience and because he’s got only a shield to defend himself, he finds it difficult to gain acceptance of his fellow adventurers. Does that remind you of someone? Someone like Naofumi? The main protagonists of both the show may be quick alike; however, unlike Naofumi, he isn’t betrayed and made into a criminal but he does suffer from a lot of similar problems. But that doesn’t stop him from entering the tower, along with different groups like military and the adventurers each with their own goals, and find the legendary treasure.
Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions
Unlike other isekai anime that tend to be lighthearted and fun to watch, Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions is more realistic and mature and doesns’t shy away from showing the hardships faced by the characters as well as the ugly side of slaying the monsters. When a group of people are transported to a new, game-like world, they know nothing but their names and are given no other choice but to become a reserve soldier and protect the peace of the land. The strong ones all band together, and the ones left behind join hands as well to survive in this harsh new world where there are no respawns.
The main character is not really transported into another world, but is shocked to find that the world still exists. Momonga is a powerful wizard in the online virtual reality game; but when the servers are about to shut down for good, he decides to spend the final hours within the game. But when it’s time, he discovers that the game’s world still exists and what’s more, all the NPCs have developed their own personalities. Confronted by this new development, he decides to investigate more in order to take control of this new world with the aid of his loyal servants.
No Game No Life
When two shut-in NEET siblings, Sora and Shiro, who happen to be powerful online gamer duo, receives a mail challenging them to a game of chess, they didn’t expect that there life was going to change.
