The much anticipated E3 event, happening in Los Angeles, is already in full swing but there are still a few hours left for Microsoft’s turn to present and unveil its mega project, as per the predicted schedule, that gamers have been waiting for anxiously – the new Xbox that was code-named Project Scorpio. However, we already have information about what the actual name of this new gaming console will be and guess what? It’s Xbox Scorpio.
The name reveal came from an advertisement that was leaked by Best Buy Canada, first spotted by VentureBeat a few hours prior to the official announcement of the Xbox Scorpio. Check it out:
Nothing else, apart from the name, is confirmed yet so we still have to be patient and wait a few more hours until the Microsoft officially announces the price, games and shipping date of the Xbox Scorpio. There have been rumors of the new gaming console to have a retail price of US $500, however that is yet to be confirmed.
On the specification front, we already know Microsoft has been trying to have a console that supports 4K video footage and gaming. That’s not all! The Xbox Scorpio will also feature a powerful eight custom x86 CPU processor clocked at 2.3 GHz, coupled with a 6 teraflops GPU clocked at 1172 GHz. The Xbox Scorpio will also have over 320 GB/s memory bandwidth with a 1 TB hardware, and a storage space of 12 GB of GGDR5 RAM. If all of that sounds confusing to you, it just means the console will be super-fast, hiccup free and support high-end graphics.
The name of the new console is definitely a change from the previous ‘360’ model, but then again Microsoft doesn’t really have a naming convention when it comes to their consoles so the name Scorpio not only makes the cut but sounds pretty cool as well.
