OnePlus 5 has been in the news quite a lot recently. From sketches and leaks to teasers about the color variants of the new smartphone, the Cupertino-based company has been keeping tech enthusiasts on their toes for a while now. Now there is more information regarding OnePlus 5, only this time it’s a solid confirmation about the release date from the company itself.
A few days back, an internal email leaked through Weibo suggested that OnePlus 5 will be launched on June 15th this year. However those claims have now been rebuked as the company officially announced today that it will be launching its latest smartphone on June 20th 12 P.M. EST. A OnePlus event is scheduled to be held on June 20th in New York City (which will be streamed online) where the company’s CEO Carl Pei and Marques Brownlee will formally unveil the OnePlus 5, finally putting a lid to all the rumors that have been stirring up about the smartphone.
For those unaware of this spectacular smartphone, OnePlus 5 is expected to come head to head with some of the biggest smartphones of this year including the iPhone 7/8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8. The only difference is that the OnePlus smartphone will be a lot more cheaper and consumer friendly than its rivals. OnePlus 5 will face competition with the more mid-range smartphones with similar specs. Some of them include Andy Rubin’s Essential smartphone and the Moto Z2 Play.
Rounding up the specs of the new OnePlus device, the smartphone will incorporate a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor chip clocked at 2.34 GHz which is the latest, most powerful SoC in the market. It will run the Android 7.1.1 Nougat which will most probably be upgraded to the Android O once the new software is available.
Other features of the OnePlus 5 include a whopping 8GB RAM coupled with 64 GB internal storage space that will be expandable up to 128 GB through a microSD card, and a huge battery measured to be around 4000mAh.
In terms of the design, the smartphone will be available in four different colors and will feature an all-metal body with a minimum thickness of 7 mm and a weight of only 160 grams. OnePlus 5 will be a dual-SIM device and have support for nano-SIM cards. The display screen of the handset will be 5.5-inches QHD AMOLED display (1440 x 2560 pixel resolutions).
OnePlus 5 is also incorporating a dual-camera setup like many top smartphones of 2017. The horizontally placed dual-cameras at the back will be 23-megapixel quality which is seriously impressive for a mid-range smartphone. The front-facing camera will be 16-megapixel.
The new OnePlus smartphone is estimated to be priced around US $500, however this is just a rough estimate and we will know the exact price of the smartphone once it is formally announced later this month.
