The successor to Microsoft’s Surface Keyboard, the Modern Keyboard is here. It looks exactly like the Surface Keyboard with one major difference – a hidden fingerprint sensor.
The company has quietly incorporated a fingerprint sensor or reader in the right-hand side of the keyboard in the second Windows Key (next to the space-bar). This new fingerprint reader can directly log into the users Windows account, Windows 10 or websites using the Windows Hello service. Like the Surface Keyboard, the Modern Keyboard is expected to work with Windows 10. The new Microsoft keyboard isn’t only Windows-exclusive. It will also work with MacOS, as well as the latest versions of Android.
What’s interesting about the new button is that it quietly blends in with the other keys. Another feature of the Modern Keyboard that its predecessor did not have is that it will be able to be plugged in with other devices via Bluetooth.
Microsoft writes about its keyboard in these words: “Our vision was to blend the Fingerprint reader into a keyboard, so it would appear to be any other key. We iterated relentlessly to improve each layer, making sure they came together to create a flawless typing experience that felt like any other key.”
As far as the price is concerned, the Modern Keyboard will be priced at US $129.99 and will be available to purchase in the coming weeks.
